The Lakers planned to practice Tuesday ahead of their flight to Dallas for Wednesday's game against the Mavs, and like everything else this season... plans changed. Talen Horton-Tucker tested positive for Covid-19, and entered the league's health and safety protocols. And as a result, practice was cancelled and everyone had to get tested to make sure the Lakers weren't taking Covid on the road.
So once again, the Lakers have to adjust to a shifting lineup and fill the space (particularly defensively) that THT has filled. And they might not have Anthony Davis Wednesday, either. He's still questionable with a knee injury.
But big picture, what's going on with the Lakers? What's going on with the Mavericks, who are also struggling? What can the latter tell Lakers fans about the former? To break that down and much, much more, Nick Angstadt (host of Locked on Mavs and Locked on NBA) joins the show. We start with a basic question: Which team is more disappointing? It's not an easy one to answer, given how solid an argument you can make for both Dallas and LA. From there, it's a conversation about Jason Kidd. What's gone right with Kidd in Dallas, what hasn't, and what's coming? It wasn't long ago that Kidd was the guy it seemed like the Lakers wanted.
Finally, it's been an uncharacteristically turbulent year for Luka Doncic. Has any shine come off that apple? Is there any doubt among Mavs fans that he might not be capable of carrying them to a title? And from the Lakers standpoint, are there similar doubts about Davis, who is supposed to be the guy who takes the Lakers on their next steps once LeBron is gone? The answers illustrate how hard it is to be the proverbial "guy who an win you a title if he's your best player."
