All Things Video

An Innovative Approach to Online Storytelling -- Bernie Su (Founder, 96 Next)

July 19, 2019

Bernie Su is an Emmy and Peabody Award winning storyteller and the Founder of 96 Next, a production studio that creates interactive video series. Prior to 96 Next, Bernie co-founded Pemberly Digital, the studio behind hit digital shows The Lizzie Bennett Diaries and Emma Approved and later launched Canvas Media Solutions, which produced StyleHaul’s first original scripted series Vanity.

In this episode, Bernie and I discuss his approach to innovation for scripted series on social platforms, from pioneering affiliate marketing in Emma Approved to creating the first audience interactive show on Twitch with Artificial. We also debate the future of subscription video platforms and argue whether HBO failed to effectively monetize Game of Thrones. Finally, we examine why more traditional celebrities are turning to podcasting and social media to extend their audience and develop additional revenue streams.
