The Chris Harder Show

8: From KILLING HIMSELF to KILLING IT In Business with AJ Mihrzad

April 3, 2017

AJ Mihrzad is the author of the best-selling book, The Mind Body Solution: Train your Brain for Permanent Weight Loss. With a passion for health, he studied Exercise Science and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Psychology due to his fascination with the connection between mindset and weight loss. His cutting-edge approach to permanent weight loss insists that the key to a healthy body is a healthy brain. His clients are walking proof – there are hundreds of them!

His writing has been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, The Huffington Post, Men’s Fitness, and Bodybuilding.com. AJ is a keynote speaker at high-end entrepreneurial and personal development events, and also hosts the popular podcast, the Online SuperCoach Podcast (available on iTunes). Along with inspiring the lives of the general public, he is dedicated to helping coaches create an ethical and profitable online income through his business mentorship program available at OnlineSuperCoach.com.

Growing up, AJ explains to us that in order to gain “power” he turned to food. It was his emotional drug of choice and before he knew it, he was 60 lbs. overweight! But as he got older, and food wasn't the only unhealthy option, AJ found himself dabbling in drugs and alcohol as well.

“I was just looking to numb the pain. It was almost like I had a death wish.”

Not just once, but three times, AJ recalls and shares with us his overdose experiences.

“I would wake up in the hospital totally unaware of what just happened, become depressed for the next few days and then go right back to my old ways again.”

At the age of 26, he overdosed on a stimulant that caused his heart to flat line, and AJ was pronounced dead at the hospital. Thankfully nurses were able to revive him, but he remained in a coma for the following 7 days. It was during this time of pain and suffering that AJ had finally hit his rock bottom and was ready for a change.

No one is “dealt a bad hand,” but playing the victim may cause a person to think that way. The mind is a powerful thing – it can either help you or hurt you.

“Not only was my victim mentality not serving me any longer, but it was literally killing me!”

Fast forwarding to today and a much more uplifting time, AJ is one of the most successful entrepreneurs that I know. He has completely turned his life around, continues to stay sober and has turned to positive pastimes such as reading, self-help, journaling and even coaching as his new way of life.

Even as we talked today, AJ remains 100% vulnerable and shared with us that there’s always room for improvement. There will always be those sneaky little stories that we tell ourselves, which hand-in-hand, then hold us back. He is the epitome of a hardworking individual whose goal now is to live each and every day to its highest potential – seeking out the good, the opportunities and the blessings we are all given.

I admire his story, his past and every bit of him that led him to where he is today. Whether it be giant leaps or a small stone’s throw, progress is progress!

“I used to drive a crappy car and now I drive a Bentley. Just a small example, but that’s how progress pushes me!”
