I invite guests to share personal stories about acts of leadership that help shape their lives. In Episode 31, Matt Crump shares a story about how a U.S. Army soldier influenced him to radically change his life – without ever asking him to change. Matt also talks about how he was affected when someone believed in him. Matt then advises us to FLIP, which is an acronym of four guiding principles.
00:00 Prologue
Matt is an extraordinary professional who lives a full life! In the links below, I highly recommend watching his video, “I choose life, not cancer!” Not only has Matt served in the U.S. Army, owned a record store, and served as a Christian pastor, he is an author, Founder & CEO of MCM Inc, a podcast host, owner of S&W Design Studios, and owner of Sandhills Music Center. He is a business coach and consultant who helps executives, entrepreneurs, and individuals to align their beliefs and actions.
01:15 Part 1: The Influence that Led Matt to a Mountaintop
We can influence in lifechanging ways. Matt shares a story about how a brother U.S. Army soldier influenced him to give up alcohol and drugs but without trying to change Matt.
06:55 Part 2: When Someone Believes in You, Your Perspective Changes
Because of his battle with stage four cancer, Matt gave up his music store and being a full-time pastor. Matt shares how a publishing house and one of their writers believed in him and his story about cancer.
15:45 Part 3: If You FLIP, You Become More than a Role
Too often, we link our identity to our business role. With most of our time dedicated to a role, I can understand why a role becomes your purpose. Matt challenges us to FLIP, which is an acronym that can lead you to overcome life obstacles and change how you perceive your work and your roles.
