The True Travel Podcast

Travel Writing, immersive experiences, and New York living with Katherine Parker-Magyar

Sept. 29, 2021

S1, Ep8

This week’s episode is packed with adventure as New York-based travel writer Katherine Parker-Magyar talks about her exciting career.

From a champagne breakfast in the Nepali jungle to  going off-grid on an eco-tour in the Amazon, her first travel assignment in Hawaii, and sleeping in the world's highest lodges in Peru - Katie has some amazing stories to share.

Katie’s travels are always driven by the people she meets and having that deeply immersive experience.  As a writer, her mission is to bust the myths and stereotypes about other countries and cultures. "People are not their politics," she said after a visit to China.

Katie also talks about why outdoor adventure travel is perceived as something masculine (and why it shouldn't be)  and how she pleasantly surprised herself on a trekking adventure in Peru.

Plus - if you’ve ever wondered how you get into travel writing, Katie shares plenty of tips throughout the episode.
