No Ordinary Women

21: Tarana Burke and Bresha Meadows

Feb. 16, 2023

Tarana Burke is best known for organizing the #MeToo movement in 2006 as an avenue for victims of sexual violence to share their experiences, thus forming an alliance among survivors. She was named Person of the Year by TIME magazine in 2017 and she has spent her life empowering women to share their stories and fight against sexual assault with the slogan "empowerment through empathy."

Then Rose tells us about Bresha Meadows who was forced to take things into her own hands after suffering years of abuse. When Bresha was 14, she shot and killed her father after trying to get help for her family for years. The system failed her over and over again but with the help of an amazing lawyer, she was able to turn her life around.
