In 2016, acclaimed director Ava Duvernay released her much anticipated follow-up to Selma, a documentary called 13th which was aimed at discussing the issue of mass incarceration of African American men in U.S. prisons. The film was hailed by critics and garnered awards throughout the season, earning a Best Documentary Feature nomination for the Academy Award.
