Dave Rael has done a remarkable job with this podcast. By asking different developers the same set of questions, we get a fascinating cross-section of experiences and advice from successful software developers. Either Dave has a natural talent for keeping the conversation flowing, or he has prior interviewing experience I'm not aware of; even though there's a certain script he uses, nothing ever seems forced and it doesn't feel like he's following a checklist.
It's great hearing a wide range of developers share their experiences, successes, and failures. It's validating when others open up to the same struggles we've all had, and to also hear how they turned some of their failures into successes. Software is a very demanding, exciting, enriching, and often maddening field, and the range of emotions can often feel like you're on a rollercoaster.
Through these interviews, we get great lessons on how to deal with it all, from others who have experienced it all, and are willing to share it with the rest of us. And it reminds us why we're in this field to begin with, and what our true purpose really is.
