Dave & his amazing guests provide some extremely compelling & actionable content that’s a goldmine for any developer looking to level up their skills & mindset. I love this podcast. Im suprise there is not more talk about this.
David Rael offers wide-ranging, "family friendly" but candid interviews with developers. Guests talk about software development, family life, and their unique career trajectories. I appreciate that David offers his thoughts in the conversation instead of only shooting off questions.
Dave Rael has done a remarkable job with this podcast. By asking different developers the same set of questions, we get a fascinating cross-section of experiences and advice from successful software developers. Either Dave has a natural talent for keeping the conversation flowing, or he has prior interviewing experience I'm not aware of; even though there's a certain script he uses, nothing ever seems forced and it doesn't feel like he's following a checklist. It's great hearing a wide range of developers share their experiences, successes, and failures. It's validating when others open up to the same struggles we've all had, and to also hear how they turned some of their failures into successes. Software is a very demanding, exciting, enriching, and often maddening field, and the range of emotions can often feel like you're on a rollercoaster. Through these interviews, we get great lessons on how to deal with it all, from others who have experienced it all, and are willing to share it with the rest of us. And it reminds us why we're in this field to begin with, and what our true purpose really is.
I heard about Dave through a friend, started reading his blog, and saw he had a podcast. I was hooked from the first episode. I've listened to every episode he’s released so far over the course of about 2 days. That’s how good it is. What are you waiting for? Want more details? The podcast is done in an interview format, and as with any interview show, it really depends on the guests. I don’t know how Dave managed to do it, but he has an incredibly impressive roster of guests. They’re developers you may have actually heard of or used their software in real life or they’re people who have achieved the sort of success that a lot of us are striving to achieve. I've enjoyed every guest he’s had on, and I now have a backlog of awesome books to read. As good as the guests are, the interviewer needs to ask the right questions as well, and the podcast really shines here as well. Dave asks the same guest the same open-ended questions and it’s interesting to hear the different answers. The podcasts really flow well. Each podcast is really packed with awesome and it doesn’t feel like there’s any time wasted. Even the intro and outro are awesome. 5 stars. Couldn’t recommend more highly.
