Shift+F1: A Formula 1 Podcast

Reviews For Shift+F1: A Formula 1 Podcast

I’ve listened to the podcast for over a year now and have generally enjoyed it. However, the recent silly season episode discussion regarding Hamilton’s Ferrari deal was incredibly disappointing. Since when does a driver’s background, presumed contract “demands”, their perception on the grid, business savvy, and what they intend to do with the money come into discussion with a new driver contract? Does he not have the credentials to have just earned this contract that Ferrari clearly agreed to? Never heard such discussions about other drivers. Do better.
Good content for the most part, but they have a real issue with animal noises in the background whether it be dogs or frogs. The dog barking got so bad I just had to stop listening mid episode. It’s not live, so why not hit pause and solve the problem? If you are going to subject your audience to advertisements then you should respect them enough to present a more professional finished product.

Nice podcast ! You guys gotta watch Days Of Thunder (1990)
long time
Drive to Survive got me interested, but Shift F1 made me a fan.
Hosts are knowledgeable, articulate, funny, and have great chemistry. Can’t ask for anything more in a sports podcast.
The balanced approach, the great chemistry, the interesting news. I appreciate their driver analyses, track discussions, team reports. Even hearing their intro music makes me happy. I regularly listen to a dozen F1 podcasts and this one is my favorite. Thanks, guys.
I enjoy this podcast because the hosts are very knowledgeable and add a good level of humor as well. Rob in particular provides really good analysis. I also like when Danny chuckles at some of the crazy things that can happen in a race like brakes catching fire. I don’t have a favorite F1 team so I consider myself neutral and don’t find any Mercedes bias or any other team bias regarding what they have to say. Any political analysis, like the recent discussion about Qatar hosting a race was thought provoking and not over the top in opinion.
Overall, it’s a good F1 podcast, but not a great F1 podcast. New F1 fans will benefit from their relatively basic/layman perspective, but I encourage them to seek out other podcasts to listen to in addition to this one (Back of the Grid is one to check out, and For F1’s Sake if you want a more comedic approach). It’s clear this is more of a fun side project for them than something they put their heart and soul into (it’s not their day job, so it’s understandable). First and foremost, they need to stop bringing politics into the show unless it’s directly related to the F1 weekend somehow (like bombs going off during the Jeddah weekend). They occasionally go into random tangents and input their personal opinions into things that don’t matter. Rob rambles far too often and seems to think it’s his job to tell the listeners what they should like or dislike. He can sometimes impress with random old F1 facts and history, but seems to try to word vomit his way through some of the topics they discuss on the show. From time to time (it’s pretty rare) they will do their podcast based on what they saw in the highlight reels, which usually don’t tell the full story of the race, and what we get is a half baked podcast. It sometimes misleads listeners as they will completely misunderstand a situation that happened during the race. They should consider doing a “short” episode in these instances. Danny needs to stop the “race around the world” thing he does. It’s obnoxious. I tend to archive the podcast at that point anyway as I find little benefit in having the world race calendar read to me early in the week. It’s useless filler. With that said, the podcast sound quality from Drew and Danny is great, but Rob’s could use a little work. The volume levels are great across most podcast sources. Too many podcasts have horrendous sound quality. This is not one of them. They do a pretty decent job of sounding organized despite the rambling. I like that they have a website that I can visit to checkout some of the content they place in the show notes. Finally, with the F1 and Done podcast seeming to have ended, I would rate these guys as the best F1 podcast coming from the US. I’m a long time listener and I will continue to listen to them. Just wish some things would change.

They tend to ramble on on about nothing. Not very interesting at all.
I’ve listened to this show for over a year now and when they talk about formula one it’s absolutely fantastic! The reason I’m going to have to stop listening to this show is because of the constant conversations about politics typically started and kept going by Rob Zacny. I believe in a diversity of ideas but sports just aren’t the place to throw in your own personal politics and when I turn on a f1 podcast and 20 minutes in the conversation the topic is still on how America is the worst country in the world and on freedom of speech being a bad thing I’ve got to find another source for my f1 content. Reading some of the other reviews this seems to be a consistent issue with other listeners, I hope that this isn’t as bad one day so I can come back to what I think is one of the best f1 podcasts.
Great source of info with entertaining delivery without a bunch of gimmicks interjected. Team interacts well with each other and their followers. They provide good insight and break down the information without dumbing it down. Keep up the good work.
Dude thinks he’s won 8 WDC
Danny, Rob,
They are seriously the worst
Enjoy listening but I wish they would be less bias towards Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Just keep in mind some of your listeners want to hear a review and not a 25 minute rant criticizing Christian Horner, Max and the Red Bull team. Had to turn off the Mexican GP review episode because I got tired of listening to the criticism and bias.
Incredible this podcast exists with these three unique personalities. Turns out racing is fun.
Noooo body cared, because nooo buddy watched. Perez is 32 btw. Stop stumbling.
Good pod from a good bunch of people.
One of these guys starts criticizing Checo and has no clue that he is talking about a whole different race, lol what a joke
Love Danny and Drew's insight on the wild world of F1! Approved by #1 American F1 Owner Jeeeeeeean Haas.
Came for Rob but stayed for all three of them. Its a great podcast even if you never intend to watch the men race
My window into F1 from the first episode. A great blend of access and insight. People in the reviews here get mad at Rob but he’s been a great add and brings the knowledge this show was lacking. A unique perspective in a sea of homogenized F1 content
I enjoy the rapport these three guys have and appreciate that they recognize that F1 does not occur in a vacuum. Lordt, people. I may or may not tune in to hear Danny “sing” race around the woooaaarrrrld.
Excellent show that has definitely given me a tremendous amount of insight over the years. One of my weekly must listen to podcasts for the last 4 years or so. I really enjoy Danny and Drew and the way the discuss the intricacies of the sport. They’re funny, have great chemistry, and do a great job discussing things in a way that will appeal to people who are new to the sport, the most experienced, and everyone in between. Rob’s style is going to draw more of an opinion from most people, and sometimes comes off a little too condescending for me. He is very knowledgeable and has great insight most of the time, but there have been a number of times he has tried to share a strong opinion about something he clearly hasn’t spent any time looking into. Overall, top 5 F1 podcast for me. Keep up the good work.
I’ve tried a few different F1 pods, and this is my favorite. These guys give good overviews of the race, break down major headlines, and discuss upcoming tracks very well. Highly recommend.
Ignore the occasional less than favorable review--they're clearly written by haters needing to hate. I'm a relative latecomer to F1 via Drive to Survive. The racing itself (the In 30 version, because 2 hrs is more than I can devote), the Netflix series, and this podcast combine for exactly the right amount of entertainment.
I would assume a show with F1 in the title would discuss F1. Five minutes in and all they talk about is Dragonball Vegemite.
I enjoy the information but the Valley Girl speak - using the word “like” every other word is painful to listen to!
Fun show and very entertaining. Although not too focused on the technical aspects of the sport, I appreciate the track previews, race reviews, and the abundance of humor. Highly recommend.
Love the show and content you provide for F1. One critique would be please keep current events and politics out of the podcast. I like to tune in to listen about Formula one and not about what happened in Saudi Arabia.
Great racing content and a good mix of personalities on the show make for entertaining conversations and intelligent racing insights. I do personally belive in a separation of politics and sport, so at times, the show can go too deep into politics. I find it exhausting at a time when I'm looking for an escape.
Jokes aside, these guys do a great job on the show. They put in a lot of work & it’s greatly appreciated. Rob on the other hand, sounds like a guy who spends most of his time posting Craigslist adds seeking men to rail his wife….
Ignore what others are saying, this is the best F1 Podcast out there. Some people just don’t like to hear opinions they don’t agree with.
I listened to this podcast for quite a while. The more I listened to it the more I realized how little the hosts would pay attention to the actual race week by week. They only discuss the big headlines of the sport and a few race laps. The segment of race around the world is unnecessary since they don’t even really watch the full F1 race week by week. There have been multiple occasions where the hosts say they haven’t watched the whole race. If you don’t know the sport the preseason episodes seem very helpful to understand how the general sport works and the characteristics of the drivers. Wouldn’t suggest this unless you are new to watching f1. After about half a season of listening to them I’d move on to a better overall podcast.
I was enjoying getting into F1 and going through this season’s episodes until politics kept getting brought up. All in all good production value but the very polarized and needless presentation of politics just turned me off and I couldn’t keep listening to it.
I come here to hear about F1, let’s stick to that
I’m convinced that these guys don’t even watch the actual race. There’s multiple instances of the hosts admitting they only watched the highlights before recording. They have ZERO understanding of the F1 strategy and how it translates to the actual race. They routinely mispronounce driver names, and everything is political with them. There’s other US based podcasts that are much better! When comparing this show to a couple of the others, you can tell those shows spend hours in prep and these guys spends minutes!
The guys are great fun, very entertaining and likable, but for a pod about F1, they are clueless on the details and getting worse. Details matter in F1, ie: knowing how much older Driver A’s tires are compared to Driver B; knowing how many tenths A was from B during the first runs of Q3; and knowing roughly how much and why Ferrari gained speed during their engine upgrade... but the three don’t seem to care to get the specifics right, or even generally inform you about them. The entertainment value outweighed their lack of specificity for a while, but the added injection of their moral superiority on matters of Covid, quasi-political matters and pop culture make me hesitate to continue support. Give a listen and try out for yourself. Maybe you’ll enjoy or they’ll tighten these things up and get back to the great show they had.
First, I listened to this for free so I may not be the target audience. I have the show several tries because the f1 content itself is good and they seem to care about informing the listeners on the subject. I lost interest after the American gentleman commented on being offended by Daniel Ricciardos attempt to share his love for a bit of American Culture. I value and respect the presenters opinions but I’m clearly not the audience. I got the social-media vibe that they just comment something to comment or are riled up by something just to be riled up about something. Generally good show tho. Best of luck on your continued success!
Can the hosts please learn how to pronounce the drivers names correctly?
This guys are so biased towards Lewis in any situation. Also, I just wish they could get through a sentence without an uhhhhhh or ummmm. However, they seems to be very knowledgeable on history and details on tracks.
This podcast is good for the most part. It just seems like one of the hosts has a real problem with Red Bull and has for a while based on previous podcasts and especially the most recent episodes. If you like Mercedes then I think you will find the podcast to be to your liking. I don’t think it would hurt to add some differing opinions from time to time. I will say though that the audio and product is top notch
This is the best F1 pod out, love the differing perspectives, the lack of hot takes, and the just thorough knowledge of the sport. So happy I found this!
Hands down theeeeeeeeeee best F1 podcast! Yo F1! Hook these guys up with some inside access!
Really used to love this show. I had to look past all the political related comments (ex. defund the police) and stay focused on their racing content. Racing content was great until I started to realize they were pretty unorganized and a lot of the time they were uniformed about events that had taken place. I realize slip ups happen, we are all human. But maybe don’t have a podcast if you don’t care anymore? Now I have to jump to the cheesy European F1 podcasts to have informed racing content. The also plus to switching to European F1 podcasts is that they largely keep politics out of it.
As many have mentioned, this podcast has moved on from being a racing podcast to one that now contains far too many poorly articulated political diatribes by the announcers. It seems that each week they are more interested in delivering content that has more relevance on the CNN 24 hr broadcast than anything related to F1. Furthermore, the hosts are continually uninformed regarding the happenings of the race and the F1 world in general (Danny in particular) and I’ve found myself correcting them while listening. This was the first F1 podcast I began listening to and I used to love it. I can’t bear to listen half the time now, I hope they turn it around, get serious and get back to their roots.
