I love this podcast! Akilah and her spoken and written word have changed the fabric of my being and I am forever grateful for the way she shares through this incredible podcast.
Mad question asking!!!
The gift of new language to describe how I am moving through life with my children has been so wonderful!
This is the resource I have been needing without knowing it existed! Thank you thank you thank you Akilah for this beautiful resource and light and validation!
Always dropping some fascinating ideas and considerations! I don’t have kids yet, but listening to this podcast helps me think through how I might one day raise them. Thank you for podcasting outside of the box!
This podcast is full of so much goodness! Trusting your children, trusting yourself as a parent and as a person to know what’s best for your family. I’m deep in the process of deschooling and about to embark on an unschooling lifestyle, and listening to Akilah and her guests has been so encouraging and their insight has been so enlightening and refreshing. Love it all! Thank you 💕
Akilah has helped me shift perspective, addressing deep-seated fears that are just baggage from my own childhood. Fare of the Free Child podcast - and the webinar content Akilah offers - consistently and joyfully presents freedom from every perspective with such joy. Akilah’s freedom really feels free.
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a while, and it has really been part of my foundation, growing into my authentic self. Raising and unschooling 2 children of color, and being white passing myself, I had/have a lot to learn. This podcast is a space where I can feel triggered, sit with it, reflect, and come out on the other side with a new perspective. Listening has made me a more gentle parent, it’s made me a deeper listener, and it’s part of the many reasons I continue the journey of decolonizing my thoughts. I’ve cried while listening, both happy and sad tears. I’ve had deep conversations with my partner and my friends about episodes that lingered in my mind for weeks if not months.
I feel nothing but gratitude for this podcast and for all the work Akilah does... really just thankful for her existence.
Thank you for this labor of love! I love your topics and how you are raising your children. It's helping me with parenting my 6yo and 3yo spirited daughters. Your podcast has helped me to be at peace with the way that we do school (classical/eclectic/unschoolishy). Keep it coming! I always feel empowered after a dose of your episodes!
I love this podcast. It deeply resonates and supports me in my own identity and values. I always feel like I’m sitting on the couch talking to Akilah and the guest like... “Yaaaasssss.” This feeling of connectedness and guidance is rare in my life. As a healer and Scholar and Organizer for Black People... and the mommy of a toddler... as a black woman, I need this. Thank you
These podcasts have given words to my thoughts. I have been trying to figure out what I was feeling about my thought process as an adult before becoming a parent and now that I am a parent of 2 boys I am constantly trying to figure out how to parent without fear in a way that my family doesn't always understand. I am constantly referring others to these episodes and figuring out now what I can DO to help us get to a world with more free thinkers in it. My parenting journey has become so liberating. Thank you Akilah!!
Incredible podcast. Polished and so well edited. Will inspire anyone who thinks!
Restorative, inspirational, current. I believe this is one of truest voices in a long time.
Fare of the Free Child Podcasts are truly life saving!!! They give voice to what one is feeling as one tries to navigate the terrain of the world we live in as black and brown people. While sometimes in this world one can feel helpless when you see the work that needs to be done. This podcast helps one put a thought into action. This podcast will help generate thoughts and ideas of what one can do in their home, community and this world to make a difference. I am constantly sharing this podcast with others. I want everyone to be woke 😜!!! I feel like I have entered the matrix. I took the pill! Now there is no turning back!!! Keeping sharing, giving and displaying what it is like to be free Akilah. We see you! We hear you! We need it and appreciate it! Thank You!!!
This is a really good show for people interested in learning more about unschooling and homeschooling from a black perspective. The host is engaging. Her attempt at using African American slang however is annoying and sometimes offensive.
My husband and I have been Unschooling and Unlearning since 2008. With the strong belief that our rich experience in diaspora and beyond is more than enough to teach and support our children's natural abilities for learning and growth in these modern times.
Unschoolers are a truly unique set of learners and educators that hold a mindset of investment in their children that requires a safe space in order to thrive. I'd like to thank the curator of this movement and her husband for setting the space in motion as well as having the patience in building the arch for others to seek shelter.
Unschooling from an African diaspora can feel cold and unsafe. Thankful that you all have become a leader in creation of an online safe space.
I so enjoy the wide-ranging conversations that prompt me to rethink many of my basic assumptions about education, childhood, and what liberation looks like.
A great show showcasing everyday people navigating successfully through family life and entrepreneurship. Creating awesome dialogue to help strengthen community. Completely sincere and 100% !
Unschooling is a way to teach our children to love themselves and always love learning. This podcast touches my heart. One of my daughters learned how to read at 2 years old and her sister at 3. My 2 year old taught herself, but I made her environment a place where learning is fun and encouraged. Unforunately now that both of my children are school age I haven't allowed them to learn the same way they had previously. I changed my homeschool into a traditional school at home. I've learn that this isn't best for my motivated educated daughters. As a result, I sought Akilah's podcast after visiting her blog. I'm also a blogger, but Akilah had a confidence in her schooling abilities that I deeply admired. I believe that freedom is essential to embracing self so I thank her for answering her calling to share her community of "self directed learners." Thank you Akilah for brightening my horizons.
There is nothing like this on any other podcast! Akilah, you are creating community around something so fundamental (whoops, just quoted Trepan M's website) that anyone will learn something, but it is from such a fresh perspective that many of us "outcasts" will hear and heed your call. Thank you for this gift!
