Walken 101

Reviews For Walken 101

Be amused as two guys embark on a mission to watch everything Walken. Little do they know what misery awaits them in the cesspool of mediocrity and nihilism that compromises the bulk of the actor’s career.
Started late, got caught up rather fast and now the wait for new episodes is excruciating. If only they put them out more often but not at the expense of quality. Now I'm just rambling. Keep up the excellent work, Kenny and Brandon.
What a great podcast. It has Christopher Walken, movies, two guys, two microphones, opinions, information, quotes, nouns, verbs, breathing, and more. What else could you possibly ask for? :) I've been a fan of Brandon Hardesty since discovering his YouTube channel 10 years ago, and as soon as I found out he had a podcast I was on board. And Kenny's great, too! Sometimes he gets a bit too negative for my tastes, but when he's in a good mood or taking a bad movie in stride instead of just complaining about it, he's fun to listen to. Some of these movies are stinkers or worse, boring as hell, and I don't envy them in their task. But when they're both able to come out the other side with something to say, whether it be praise or damnation, it's always fun. I'd imagine that people fascinated by Walken 101 will probably be the ones to stumble upon these reviews, and the conceit of the show will be enough for you to give it a try. But I'd recommend checking out some of Brandon Hardesty's YouTube videos as well as his No Small Parts Productions page to get an idea of whether you'd like this podcast or not. As a fan of Brandon, and now Kenny, they could talk about pretty much whatever and I'd be on board. That being said, it's been pretty fascinating coming along with them to learn about Walken. This podcast will definitely make you feel like a bit of a Walken expert by proxy. The other day I busted out an impromptu Walken impersonation for some reason that I can't even remember now. My Walken impression used to be absolutely terrible but, wouldn't you know it, I'd say this one was downright passable! And that's just from listening to every episode of this podcast and soaking up enough of Brandon's impeccible Walken sensibilities. Personal favorite moments include Brandon's deadpan declaration that, had he not been watching that week's particular Walken movie, he would have just "played Xbox for about 3 hours" (Ep. 13, 35:30) And in a more recent episode, he goes on a rant about one of Walken's movies being so boring that "It's disrespectful" (Ep. 33, 33:20) Brutally honest assessments like that will keep me listening until we reach Nine Lives and beyond.
I'm a big fan of No Small Parts and I really want to love this podcast, I think the concept is great and Brandon and Kenny have good chemistry, but there are some issues that keep me from being over the moon with this project. I hope you'll accept some humble criticism, I think a lot of lessons could be learned from another podcast The Worst Idea of All Time which watches the same movie every week for a year but still manages to be interesting and engaging each episode. They change it up a lot which keeps things fresh but they also have regular segments that are fun (shining light). I know it's a completely different tone from Walken 101 but I think the idea behind it is pretty similar. I'm not trying to say do it exactly like them but maybe introduce more structure to the show, each pick a favorite walken moment or line from the movie and talk about it etc. Another thing is the energy seems a bit low a lot of the times, episodes can go a bit over long with a lot of time devoted to catching up with the hosts, while I think you guys are cool and all I'd like to get to the meat of the episode a bit quicker. Like I said, I want to love the show, I'm excited by the potential of it but I think it needs some changes before it can really be great, much love!
Brandon tells tales of pooping on walls.
I love Walken with Kenny and Brandon as they watch their way through Christopher Walken's career. I think Kenny is also playing a secret game called "Make Brandon Crack Up" and he's winning. Seriously, their banter is fun and hilarious, this is a quality podcast and I look forward to each episode. They haven't yet recorded a dumpster fire of an episode.
Brandon and Kenny are great together on this podcast, in which they attempt to watch and discuss every single film or television project starring Christopher Walken. Right now they're in the late 1970s, after his cameo in Annie Hall, just as casting directors began to take note of Walken. Others have tried what they're attempting before but Brandon's preparation in research and their overall dedication to track the Walken's career from the very beginning is what will set them apart. I'd like to see them discuss the films more in depth, (some of the films they've already discussed I want to see, even if they're bad) as opposed to rate the films on a continuum of how good the Walken performance is, which is okay too. I hope more eyes and revenue funds their podcast to its conclusion because, for one, it's interesting to gauge the history of cinema through this one actor's work and the other to have possibly been one of those first adopters of this crazy project.
Very interesting. Never really had the chance to, listen to something so. In-depth. I need, I want. More.
Stumbled upon this podcast after being a big fan of the No Small Parts youtube series, and absolutely loved Brandon's input on classic character actors that I both did and did not know. Really loved the Ponceman doc, that the two hosts collaborated on and wanted to hear their thoughts regularly on Christopher Walken. This podcast has found its feet by the Annie Hall Episode and has quickly become one of my regular casts to check out, along with Improv4Humans and Was This Always Weird? Love not only their analysis of Walkens' multiple performances but also the lovely corridors of thought they explore throughout. Can't wait for more!
What a unique idea for a podcast. I love listening to the banter between Kenny and Brandon. They are relatable and charming. Can't wait to see how this podcast evolves as they get further into Walken's career!

5/5

Love podcast!
My favorite YouTube personality reviews the entire career of my favorite actor. What's not to love? Kenny's great, too!
