Revealing® World Religions

Reviews For Revealing® World Religions

I wanted to enjoy the chapters in this podcast. I really did. Sadly, after listening to how badly the names of the holidays were mauled under the Judaism section, I can only assume the same issues are present in all the other chapters as well. Additionally the less then sophomoric analysis of the meanings of the Jewish holidays Leads me to believe that under other chapters, such as Islam, the analysis is just as cursory and amateurish. This is a comic book that is trying to impersonate higher education.
My initial impression was that this series of lectures was a decent and unbiased summary of the history and beliefs of the major world religions. That impression was brought into serious doubt, though, after listening to the Christianity segment, which was a confused and inaccurate mess. I see several reviews here by practicioners of other of the faiths profiled saying the same so am forced to conclude that I've wasted several hours and made the task of understanding my neighbors more difficult. I'd recommend you not do the same.
Very in-depth unbiased account of each religious tradition. The narrator's voice is beautiful, lucid and very engaging. It is not monotonous as someone else stated. Of course her pronunciation of many foreign terms is a little off but that us to be expected. It is not because she isn't trying to pronounce them correctly. These podcasts need to be listened to over and over again. I just loved them. Thank you.
My goal of learning the basic history and beliefs of the world's major spiritual traditions has been fulfilled. At no time do the lecturers attempt to espouse a point of view; instead they review what adherents believe and how they came to believe it. The Teaching Company's courses offer more advanced explorations of each religion, but this series is a solid foundation for further study. And it's free!

The speaker is even-toned and has a nice voice. Production value of the recording is excellent. Content is extremely in-depth, giving a detailed overall look and unbiased analysis of all major world religions. This is one of the highest quality podcasts on iTunes in my opinion.
the episodes about south asian religions, specifically Hinduism are terrible. they call it polythiestic and butcher the pronunciation on everything. In addition, its slightly biased against hinduism and portrays several other innacuracies (specifically in the nature of worship, and the caste system). still download it though, its worth a try.
Sorry but this lady is so messed up, she has no idea what she is talking about, I listened to the podcast on Judaism, she has some knowledge about Judaism, but she doesn't understand it at all, while at the same time pushing in her own little facts, I wish I would know where she picked them up, get an Encyclopedia and educate yourself before you teach others.

This is one of the best podcasts I have ever listen to. Each one of these lectures is as much a cultural geography class as a religious studies class. The voice of the woman who is teaching is very smooth without being boring. They make for an excellent learning experience while doing house work.
The Ladies voice is very tireing
IF THERE WERE AN AWARD FOR PODCAST EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION "REVEALING WORLD RELIGIONS" SHOULD BE A WINNER. CONCISE, INTELLIGENT SYNOPOSIS OF THE WORLD'S GREAT RELIGIONS. DONE IN MANNER THAT KEEPS THE LISTENER INTERESTED IN WHAT IS AROUND THE NEXT BEND. CONGRADULATIONS TO DR. ELLER.
This is how this should be done. I would like to see the enhanced Podcasts switch to a new image with each chapter and it actually sounds like that is intended in some areas. This is something that will never leave my iPod. Being able to scroll through the Podcasts and see the chapters make it fantastic as a reference tool.

These podcasts are great. They give a totally UNBIASED look into a variety of religious traditions. I have a degree in Comparative Religions and am starting grad school next fall. I have been listening to these podcasts as a review, since it has been a few years since I finished my BA. I have learned new things that weren't covered in my Religious Studies classes. I absolutely love these podcasts. The speaker's voice is totally clear, the layout is amazing. The broadcasts are split up into sections with a review and an outline of the next section. This is an excellent tool for any student or anyone curious about different religions.
