Music From 100 Years Ago

Reviews For Music From 100 Years Ago

Perfect balance between music and speaking. It is interesting to learn about different eras of music, and the song selections are great!
I’ve become addicted to this podcast. It’s an informative & entertaining journey through American popular music from the 1st half of the 20th century. The host is masterful in his selection of tunes & offers interesting historical perspectives on all the music. Bravo!
Listening to Fuqua’s commentary and then the tracks feels is like music hug. I have no other way to describe it. Simply the best.
Father Fuqua is the hero we never knew we needed. 11/10
Brice provides great music and the story behind it, and there's never a dull moment. Thanks so much, Brice!
Eclectic. Informative. Entertaining. What else does one need in a podcast? Oh - GREAT music. Well done, maestro.
The only thing that I didn't like, and this is literally the only thing, was Brice's microphone hum in some of the very early episodes. I would have gladly bought him a new one. If he charged for this show I think he would have more listeners, because people take it for granted when a show this good free. It's like a totally fun survey class around a theme from music made long ago.
Just discovered your podcast today and have already listened to 5 episodes. I’m enjoying it so much. Thank you.
Brice, I love your show beyond words. Your program is a comfort to me, an old soul trapped in the digital era. Shows like this make it easy to soften the blow of the harsh times we live in, and also learn a lot about the events and people often forgotten before us. *** As a designer, I work at home. His voice, and the soft, crackly historic recordings are a comfort any day. The show features, as he says in his intro, music, from the first half of the twentieth century. I’ve heard pretty much every episode, some multiple times, and I always catch something new. I love to learn, love history, and music. I searched for awhile to find the right online radio program that plays pre-forties music, without repetition. This is it. I’ve also played this at little soirées with audiophile friends, to great reception. Brice- I’ve figured out your 666th episode will come in October of 2019? I’m expecting something phenomenal. ;) Thank you for the entertainment. -Deanna
I love this old music!!!😍
I love listening to this show! Brice does a great job of working around different themes and he seems to find such interesting and enjoyable songs to play. Unpretentious, enthusiastic and dedicated. Love it.
I'm a sucker for old music but the best thing about this is how it's curated. Perfect little themes. It's delightful.
I really like listening to the oldies. The ups and downs of the artists. Just interesting thing that happened in the music business at the time. Thank you.
Brice does a great job of putting these shows together and coming up with fresh themes. I love the tidbits of triva that he adds and his musical selection is great. I highly recommend this podcast to any archaic music lover.
I love discovering new songs on this podcast and the history behind them
I have been listening now for about two years and I have found nothing else that comes close to this podcast. If you are interested n how music developed, who wrote, played, and sang the songs of the early 20th century, this is the podcast for you. I have no idea what the host does for a livng, but he is a natural-born musicologist. Rare tunes, familiar tunes, the well known artists and obscure ones that touched American lives for the first half of the 20th. century are revealed here along with facts and interesting stories. If you love music, subscribe to this podcast.
Fantastic program! I enjoy the interesting music of generations ago and the historical context that Brice provides. Wonderful find!
Great show! Interesting host and content.
The amount I learn each episode and the amount I enjoy each episode is phenomenal. I so appreciate the podcaster's knowledge and his adept ability to share that knowledge in such a wonderful way. Thank You!
Wonderful, and nicely curated, with just the right (brief) amount of commentary explaining the background of these tunes from the past.
I was glad to find out Brice Fuqua is o.k., because new episodes typically appear like clockwork, and he told me, himself, that a new episode will air this weekend. This is really terrific entertainment: informative, thoughtfully produced, and some of the greatest music ever made.
I started listening with episode #400, and I haven’t missed an episode since. I am impressed not only with the music, but the host’s wide field of interest. Pop, jazz, country, folk, blues, classical and more are all treated with equal respect. This podcast has introduced me to so much excellent music and so many extraordinary performers, it truly is a treasure chest of music knowledge.
I'm gradually making my way through the archive, so please keep all those old episodes available. In addition to the wonderful music and narrative, I also have developed a big crush on Brice Fuqua. I love his relaxed manner and his accent. Keep up the good work. PS. I don't know much, but I'm pretty sure that Chick Webb and Ella Fitzgerald were never married to each other. Also every time Brice says Bouswell, I shout "Boswell!" Aside from that I trust whatever else he says.
I've been listening since the beginning of the podcast (and miss the occasional wax roll recordings) and it is one of the few podcasts that is always a joy to hear. I would love to know more about where the catalog comes from, just amazing.
I'd rather listen to this podcast than pandora. It only plays good stuff and is only interrupted by brief, informative commentary.
Best podcast out there. Plays some great tunes and he is a musical encyclopedia.
Just found it and I just love it. Give me more!

Great variety, great songs
An ear-opening window to the past. Diverse in scope but unpretentious in its wonder, this podcast is as vibrant and tastefully curated as a fine museum.

This is an absolutely amazing podcast, and a 'must' for anyone who enjoys the music of the era. Not only are great recordings presented, but also information on the artists is given in a factual, yet entertaining, manner. This is one of the three podcasts that I can hardly wait for the next installment to appear. Mr. Fuqua does an absolutely superb job. Highly recommended.
This is our go-to dinner music.

I love it!
I had no idea how great these early recordings could be! I subscribed to this podcast and got hooked. I've since listened to all the archived episodes. The music is a wide range of all the different genres of the time: blues, jazz, country, crooning, marches, opera, etc. Brice does a nice job telling the history behind the recordings, but in more of a story format -- there are so many interesting characters from this time period! My favorite music podcast.
