The banter of Sergio Lopez and Joshua Lawyer had a visceral connection with my senses. The biomorphic sounds generated by Sergio’s soundboard, in relation to Joshua’s ethos, codifies the accessibility of the podcast with an aggressive use of esoteric vernacular. I was surprised that the disjunctive spatial relationships of the two host with their guest, provided a discourse that allowed for further exploration of the various realms that we exist. The narrative of the podcast was the narrative of the liminal space in relation to art and the matrix of human emotion. The podcast is everything and everyone, and the podcast is nothing and no one. You should listen.
I also have no idea what I just said, just good ol “art speak”. This podcast be lit tho 🔥
I love having this podcast playing in the studio. Most art postcast get 'lost in the weeds' and just get boring. Really boring. These guys blend great humor with some of the most insightful discussions in studio art. They have fantastic guests and I think you will find bolts of wisdom disbursed between good-natured humor. I love this show!
Perfect podcast to have playing in the studio, in the car on a road trip...wherever. Are you going to hear super deep art related conversation every episode...no, but you will hear a bit about everything from Sergey’s experience with plein air events to Josh’s deep hate for art schools and the different kinds of pencils he uses. Keep it up guys. 🤘
If you wanna hear about art from ego driven clowns who probably wouldnt gove u the time of day in person then this podcast will fill your narcissistic needs. 👍
I have been listening to your podcast for about a year now and I still look forward to it every week. Thanks for the laughs, the insights, perspectives and sharing your awesome conversations with other artists. You guys are my remote art community. 🤘🤓
Josh goes off on tangents about himself , he cuts off guest to give his opinion or say what he would do. Let the guest speak! The hanging out interview is fun but when josh constantly talks about himself every episode, i dont learn anything about the guest.
Love the Intro music. The hosts giggle and mumble and pause, a lot. Podcast has no clear focus. There are not enough painter podcasts, I want this one to be good... it just isn’t.
These two are open and honest about their perspective on art. They create interesting topics on and around the subject while keeping a relevant relation to today. Both being talented and skilled artists, they know the technicalities of their craft, which is not usually left out of their discussions. This is done all while keeping a lightness in humor that makes for an enjoyable experience. Being able to make a joke while keeping a sincere thought is what gives their podcast depth.
I’ve become quite the fan of Sergio and Josh’s podcast, so much so that now it’s pretty much a part of my painting process. Having done some time at the academy, it’s fun to hear the rants about art school and get the latest news on the Bay Area art scene. As a fan of Josh and Sergio’s work (and most of the guests) it’s encouraging to find them pretty down to earth and see the similar personality traits common in artists. I like the fact that the show is more of a regular conversation between friends and can go off the rails at any minute “How dare you...”, but you also get a good helping of art on the side. Keep up the good work guys...
I love Waiting To Dry! This podcast is equal parts inspiring art talk and hanging around with your friends over coffee. Sergio and Joshua and their fine line up of guests get me pumped to create stuff and also give me a good laugh throughout the episode. Cheers guys!
I was going to send a direct message or email, but I've decided to write a review instead.
I'm a painter who listens to podcasts non-stop. I've heard nearly all of the other art podcasts and this one is the most helpful and relatable.
Josh and Sergio deliver a humble and honest view of what its like to be on the artistic journey. They share their opinions without pretending to have all of the answers and you hear what they are trying out in real time.
If you've been searching for voices to join you while your in the studio, look no further. These guys are great!
Never thought I’d listen to a podcast about art. These gentlemen sold me. Really appreciate the recap of their guests’ favorite artists on the podcast’s Instagram page.
Unlike many art podcast that have a standard set of questions and a predictable course, Waiting to Dry is a great listen for it's spontaneity and humor. Each converstaion is unique and shows the full person behind the art. Down to Earth with real talk and real opinions, it's a good listen while making art.
I work an office job when I’m not obsessively painting. And the days can be slowwww. Listening to Josh and Sergio geek out about art definitely helps a work day speed by. This podcast is so entertaining that I sometimes replay old episodes. It keeps me inspired, informed, and laughing. Highly recommend to all artists and non-artists. So...that’s everyone. I recommend it to everyone. Thanks for the podcast, boyzzz.

This is a podcast hosted by two great artists, Joshua Lawyer and Sergio Lopez. They go off subject sometimes but it’s always entertaining either way. Great in depth art talk and random ramblings too.
I recently moved out of the Bay Area, and was missing the great conversations I’d have at galleries and just hanging out with different artists. This podcast has helped ease that loss in my new environment. It’s less about the actual technical aspects, and more about everything else that goes into art, from culture to inspiration, to the daily grind. That being said, it still helps foster a creative mindset. Keep it up guys.
Josh and Sergio, you guys are my favorite art podcast. I always look forward to Tuesdays and hearing you guys drop some knowledge and awesome intros 👍🏼
I’ve been listening to Josh and Sergio for almost a year now and this is a great podcast.
I’m not an artist, but my husband and I are collectors. I love hearing about artists, their process, and their life stories.
The boys do this all with great humor and in a funny and intelligent, but very approachable way.
Thy interweave their personal stories with the stories of those they interview. And it is always informative AND entertaining.
And their personal dynamic is truly fun, honest, and personable.
It is clear that they are good friends and talented artists who truly love what they do and love talking about it.
This podcast is great for painters and non-painters alike.
I have been listening to this podcast since day one and on episode 28 I finally got a shout out!!!! so all the time invested was worth it!!!! Lol ... Keep up the good work guys!! You guys are super funny and fun!!!
This has been a super enjoyable art podcast to listen to. It's not pretentious nor snooty (although Existentialism and Stocism are sometimes mentioned:-)), it's just down to earth art talk. The conversations are done face to face all in the same room or studio, they are not done over the phone, so you get a real good vibe from the conversation. It also differs from other art podcasts, in that, it’s not an interview style, (although those are cool), it's just artist friends sitting around and chatting, chatting about life and life as an artist. Pretty much just like it is in real life. Also, it’s not edited much, so it’s a bit raw, the "F" words fly about and it's sometimes a little awkward but I like that ;-). Give it a listen, even if the artist doesn’t do art that you're familiar with, you'll pick up on something that resonates with you as an artist. Keep up the great work guys!
Big fan of the podcast, although it is not always art focused, you can still find nuggets of tips and tricks (clear gesso). Definitely has helped me to focus on my own goals and entertains me while I work on my latest painting or on my way to work. I enjoy the diversity of artists you host, hearing their stories helps me appreciate what they do even more. Keep up the good work guys, look forward to your continued success and to maybe one day seeing your art in person.
It is.... as a working artist at work ones i compare myself to others a lot and it’s sometimes gnarly in ones own head. It good to hear other artist talking about everything from fears to accomplishments it’s hard to do a podcast the the hosts ease guests into the cast with jokes and shared experiences great listen for artists n not artists alike. Keep it going kids.
Heard a few episodes and I like them! They are relatable, friendly, funny and have great guests. They are in my local Santa Rosa community and it’s great to hear other artists tell their stories. It’s an easy listen while I’m getting work done in my studio.
Overall, this podcast is better than some of the art podcasts out there today. The conversation usually heads in an interesting direction and I find myself enjoying it. My only critique is I would like better questions to be asked to evoke the best possible interviews with these artists. I thoroughly enjoy this podcast however and wish these guys the best!
This podcast goes deep without getting caught up in being pretentious or overly “arty.” The hosts are both incredibly talented painters, and because of that are able to draw some really quality guests. The show follows a spontaneous, unedited format that lacks polish but more than makes up for it with authenticity. The tone of these conversations stays pretty light hearted and comical while simultaneously touching on some philosophical issues surrounding art making and life in general, provoking deep thought as often as they do laughs.
Like all interview-format podcasts, the success of each episode is often determined by the personality of the guest and their ability to articulate their process and vision. Some episodes are more exceptional than others, but the hosts remain endearing and witty throughout.
Bottom line, if you’re interested in a glimpse into a conversation between some quality artists, hosts and guests alike, one that isn’t polished over and fluffed up, but a real discourse that sounds like some friends talking life and art over a few beers, this is where you’ll find it.
This podcast is great. Sergio and Josh are always keeping it real. For many artists who spend most of their time in isolation (crouched over a painting in a cold dark room, rending hair/gnashing teeth), it is a great thing to have the sense of community and artistic togetherness that this podcast provides. Also it's often hilarious.
The guests on the show are usually really talented artists and while most of the time that doesn't necessarily make for a great interviewee or speaker, the interviewer or host is able to pick up the slack from that... or at least they should be able to. Sadly this isn't always the case and with this podcast it's hard to listen to the talk when either one or both hosts speaks with so much awkwardness. If your guests are better speakers than you are, you have a problem. Ummm what's the term for ummm this review, like, umm you know how like when someone umm can't really speak very, uh well but they try to and make for ummm a rather awkward conversation?
Art is a great topic and a podcast that lacks the pretenstion of others is great, esspecially when you have access to the talent these 2 have, but the hosts should take note and understand that to make for a good audio experience you have to be able to speak well and convey and interest of the topics at the very least. Making a podcast simply because you feel like being the guys with a podcast is much like writing a book because you want to be a writer. First you must learn to write and then have a message to give out, otherwise you will inevitably fall short.
Love this podcast! It really gives you an insight on the artist lives and it does not give you a bunch of super dense art knowledge. It’s an easy listen that most times has me laughing out loud while people stare at me. I love feeling closer to the guest artists and to hear Josh and Sergio have true artist conversation with their guests 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 makes Tuesday’s my favorite days!!
So I'm writing this review very early, after only two episodes, but whatever. I think josh and Sergio have a great thing going here. They talked about where they came from in the first episode, and I think having one host who went to art school and one who didn't will create an encompassing perspective, which is great. I'm excited to see where they go from here.
