In an era of many high-profile, commercial and high production podcasts, it is refreshing to have something a little less polished to listen to. There’s no opening music, just good ‘ol talking into microphones.
That’s not to say this isn’t a professional show. Matt Lech and his fellow readers do a ton of research and come prepared with insights. I enjoy their freewheeling conversational approach, and the hosts’ progressive 21st century perspectives.
Many of the works are public domain, and I also appreciate Matt’s commitment to recording some of the lesser known novels and poems for the LibriVox community and audiobook enthusiasts.
I found this show because I’m an avid Majority Report viewer on YouTube and I love Orwell, so this podcast is made for me. If I had more money I’d throw them ten bucks every month, but happy to get what I can from the free content!
While I have enjoyed Matt’s presence on Majority Report over the years, just started listening to this incredible podcast. Intelligent, humorous, and provoking. And here he really shines (along with Alex and others). While there is fascinating millennial insight (I am Gen X, but whatever), the podcast is so much more than that. Just a really great job at literary analysis, and makes one want to delve deeper into every work that is covered. Truly a treasure.
Matt’s smooth voice, immense literary knowledge, and unique perspective are combined in this podcast, giving history lovers an ideal podcast experience.
I mostly started listening because I love the velvety smooth sound of Matt’s voice, but I discovered I actually really dig the content. I keep having to restart episodes because I fall asleep and miss out on good stuff. I’m so impressed by how well researched and well produced this podcast is. Keep up the good work Matt. You are THE Superproducer, indeed. #LeftIsBest
Dig it if you think the slaughter and torture of religious folks during the French Revolution was dope! Enjoy virtue signaling morons droning on about “liberty movements” and the evils of a philosophy they know a mile wide and a centimeter deep. Utter trash.
Some really knowledgeable and articulate discussion on this podcast, if you miss your old reading group in your home town, if you love learning about authors on top of the reading group talk, this is an excellent show that covers a unique range of authors many of which I had never hears of honestly. Learned a lot from this podcast.
Twunk Boi, Matt Lech, and Holy Man, Alex, have done a great thing for me: they’ve reconnected me to my love for literature, specifically fictional novels and short stories, which has made up most of the podcast so far. The last 2+ years of my life had been consumed by politics and nonfiction reading, and I really had forgotten just how deeply meaningful good fiction can be, as meaningful as good philosophy and/or the transcendent, revelatory moments that make life worth living. Despite being so new, this podcast is off to a great start, and I could easily see it becoming one of the best literature podcasts there are (if it isn’t already.. tbh I don’t listen to any others). I highly recommend this, especially if you love history and politics in your literary discussions.
I came over from Antifada and Majority Report, I’ll probably Patreon-ise these guys too. Appreciate the analysis and discussion, but I can’t stand the robot voice that reads/summarizes the texts. Hope they just start getting someone to read that stuff... or just cut it and reference the passage, instead, just let me look it up if I want. 🤷🏻♀️
Time well spent. Nothing like a thoughtful and conversational deep dive into American literary history. Great suppliment to your high school English education.
Let the re-emergence of literature into mass culture begin!!
Been looking for a literary podcast that isn't either pretentious or silly, this is a great find. I read most of the works they've covered, but years ago; I'm enjoying re-visiting them. Enjoyable and informative show.
Matt Lech and company take a fresh and vigorous look at classiacal American literature. Lech has done his homework and generously shares what he knows. He fills in the many blanks, makes it relevant (and gives the 'secret' back stories!)
Listen to this podcast!
Been a fan of the host, Matt Lech, via Majority Report, The Michael Brooks Show, and his own crazy Nixon remixes (check out his Soundcloud) and was so excited to give this a listen.
The first episode absolutely blew my mind. His guest host for The Spy was awesome as well. Great chemistry on the mic.
If you appreciate literature, history, politics, feeling smarter than your friends, or unique podcasts, Literary Hangover is well worth trying out. Enjoy!
Thanks for the hard work, Matt & crew. Such a wonderful offering here.
Great concept for a podcast. Heard about this from the Majority Report podcast (check it out!) and I'm glad I tried it. Looking forward to future episodes. Keep it up, Matt!
