Having listened through the first half of season one, I can see how Red Rhino has potential to be something pretty interesting, but it’s not quite there yet. I’ll update this review if the second half comes out and delivers on that promise.
Edit: for me personally, it didn’t. But I can see the creators’ talent just under the hood of a show that doesn’t quite click with me, and I know it’s the sort of thing that will spark some deep love from those it does click for
I had the chance to hear the pitch for this show back in 2017 at the Austin Film Festival while the show was still in production. Seeing it come so fully to life, Wes Whittaker’s boring power warts and all, is making me so happy! I also love how multiversal the world is — I didn’t ever expect that. ❤️🦏
Not that there's anything wrong with superheroes, but this show gets way more complex and creative than that basic concept, and it's delightful to see it use a few superficially familiar tropes to build something wholly its own. It's also clear how much love is put into the show, and that's evident in the immediately good production values and performances. Excited to see where it's headed!
This show has so much heart. The story is really intriguing, but the characters fully reel you in. The music and sound design are also ridiculously on point, which is super important for a superhero show. The show does a good job of using music to cue you in on time or setting changes. We’re recommending it to as many people as we can--especially those who like the DC universe on CW. It’s right up their alley.
I admit I was skeptical when I found this recommended on Twitter. But the logo was so cool I had to give it a chance. Soooo glad I did. I’m already a comic book/superhero fan so it started in the right direction. But bring in multiverses and time travel (tangentially) and you really have got me!!! Good story development and very interesting take on super powers. Definitely worth your time, you’ll love it!
I've been listening to this from the beginning and I'm always anxious for more. If you enjoy time travel and superheroes then start from the beginning and hold tight. Its a heck of a ride!
I really like how the plot and characters have developed. I was actually surprised how much it pulled me in. Really looking forward to the second half.
Great story with a great cast and production! If you like a good super hero story, throw in quirky teenage angst with lame powers and you get a humorous story with with an intriguing story line. Check it out!
I don’t listen to a lot of fiction podcasts. The closest thing I listen to would probably be Myths and Legends. But this podcast definitely got me hooked. Maybe it’s just that I really like good time travel stories? IDK...??? FIVE STARS!!!
Off to a great start! Great voices and production give a lot of depth and keep things moving at a good pace. My podcast lineup has been sorely lacking in good fictional stories, and always love the superhero genre so I am looking forward to following the story.
The concept of time, the uni/multiverse, and alternate timelines have fascinated me personally to no end since childhood. “Red Rhino” takes advantage of the questions often asked regarding these topics and exploits them using a main victim of the answers.
Combining all of this with a superpower in the mix may seem overwhelming at face value, but each aspect of the story seems to fit in with the other like in a fit of beautifully organized chaos, like one of those holographic puzzles.
I’ve only finished the first full episode, and I’m already growing attached to Wess (our main protagonist)—though whether or not that was a wise choice or a soon-to-be painful mistake, I only have time to tell.
Let’s hope the full story can be released before we’re all savagely downgraded to dust by the multiverse—tangentially.
Love love love the whole sound design. Super immersive feel, love the music and what the heck, I can’t wait to find out what happened to Wes’s best friend!
There were so many story hooks in just the first episode, I can't wait for the next one to drop.
With the excellent acting and sound design, the world feels very lived in, almost like I'm listening to a TV show instead of an audio drama.
Great job guys! Looking forward to more.
This is such an impressive podcast and says so much about the care that indie creators put into their work! Can’t wait to hear what is in store for Wes!
From the opening minute this podcast had my attention. Even just in the first episode they build full characters and present a mystery that will leave you wanting the next chapter in the story. And then the next. This is one of the greatest podcasts in any timeline.
A really great beginning, with skillful world-building! I love the characters so far, and can’t wait to hear more about saving the timeline and that mysterious lady rebel who won’t buy a ticket to the zoo. :)
The premiere of this show feels like it could've come out of the Marvel method and been illustrated by Ditko or Kirby. Lots of fun set-up, can't wait for more.
I liked it a lot, it mixes in the weird sci-fi vibe of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy with grounded issues like bullying. It’s mystery is captivating to where you want to know what will happen next and the voice acting was also pretty good. Can’t wait to see where it goes next.
I’m already hooked on this new podcast. The voice talent is good, the story is intriguing and the possibilities are endless! Feels like the beginning of something truly awesome! Can’t wait to hear more!
From the production quality to the storytelling, Red Rhino is already becoming one of my new must listens! Can’t wait to see where this storyline goes. Top notch audio drama that everyone needs to hear.
Voice cast is solid. Characters are unique and well thought out with an interesting way they intertwine. Looking forward to see where the story continues. Most interesting and what I’m looking forward to hopefully hearing more about is how this story will play with the concept of time...especially without visuals...could be super fun and unique.
I normally don’t listen to podcasts but I was intrigued by the premise of this one. First episode delivers characters who I know are richly developed because I got just a taste of who they are and I already want to know more! And then the action drew me in ... already I need to know what happens next! For the first time in my life I am going to subscribe to a podcast.
I absolutely adore when podcast creators take the time to embrace the medium and create entire soundscapes for us to listen to rather than defaulting to a narrator character to describe everything. Red Rhino has delivered on that, but even more, I'm fascinated by this whole timeline deal. Do people think Wes is crazy because he can see changes in the timeline and no one else can? Did his best friend literally disappear because the timeline changed? It gave me chills!
This is also funny and the high school stuff is relatable and I am a sucker for stories including any and all siblings. Very excited to see where Season 1 goes!
First episode really sets you up to want to hear more! The characters are likable and it feels like listening to a comic almost. Looking forward to future episodes!
