Wellness: Fact vs. Fiction

Reviews For Wellness: Fact vs. Fiction

I’m so thankful I found this podcast to help break down fact from fiction ! Would love to see a podcast on fibromyalgia- fact and fiction as far as what can cause it and “treatments “ etc
Danielle and her podcast are a perfect example of why so many have grown mistrusting of medical professionals over these past few years. Much like a preacher with a string of pre-selected bible verses to support their claims, she too has her go-to studies, guidelines and fellow “science based experts” to reinforce her ideas. Because of course, this is science. It’s easy. Step 1: Create Your Conclusions. Step 2: Find evidence to support your conclusion. Step 3: Throw out, ignore and even censor ideas and opinions that conflict with your conclusions. And just like that, you have SCIENCE! We need less of this type of narrow-minded, dogmatic garbage and more open minded, sincere dialogue to truly arrive at a greater understanding of truth.
Love your podcast.. as a Registered Dietitian, I hear everything! So Much not so true information out there and at times I am baffled by it. You really have thrown my thinking into a new headspace.. I would be interested in a podcast regarding soy.. effects bad or good? Another idea is oils! So much confusing information surrounding Oils.
Topic idea: Bro science influencers (Aubrey Marcus, Kyle Kingsbury, Zach Bush, etc)
Topic idea - cold water plunge and sauna health benefits
As a long time medical sales rep and girlfriend of a physician, I highly value evidence based medicine. I am also a 500 hour yoga teacher. The amount of misinformation passed through the yoga and wellness industry is disturbing. I appreciate Dr. Belardo’s dedication to the *actual* science and well proven, well documented and real information.
Love this podcast! I’ve been a yoga teacher/health coach for years. Discovered this during the pandemic when I was already feeling the need to remove myself from the “wellness” community. Super informative! I just shared it in a private health coaching Facebook group and I’m guessing I’ll get some pushback 😝 can’t wait! Keep it up 🧬
i would love to hear your take on iron supplementation. many on social media say that you should never take iron and copper should be taken instead. it seems to stem mostly from ray peat. ray peat even claim copper deficiency causes an excess of iron...
In an age of misinformation it is so great to find a science based, honest information podcast! How about an episode on liver detox, liver detox pills etc.
I really enjoyed this podcast until recently. It’s not for me anymore. I’m sorry, but Calling the shots was not about wellness. Calling the shots is about filtering your face.

the episode about Fed Up was really good
Wow I can’t say enough wonderful things about this podcast. Dr. Belardo confronts the most widely accepted and wildly outrageous “wellness” claims out there with facts and science. I really appreciate her ability to break things down into manageable details. I also am so grateful for the compassion she shows to those of us who have been sucked deep into the misinformation (usually through no particular fault of our own). She has great guests on the show who complement and supplement her expertise in relevant areas. Highly recommend this podcast to EVERYONE!
How can you talk about nutritional epidemiology without discussing the Social Determinants of Health?
As a 24 y.o medical student with a passion for wellness this is the podcast I needed. I am constantly filled with misinformation in my environment, and your podcasts are so informative and taught better than many of my lectures in school. THANK YOU for being the intellectual voice of reason in the world of misinformation that has exploded over the course of the part few years. You have given me tools as a future physician to guide myself through all the misinformation campaigns, which will inevitably help my future patients. Bravo for a job well done.
I really love the content especially the episodes that don’t feature guests, like the cholesterol series, but the constant talking and interpreting of guests by Dr. Berlardo is too much for me. Interview the guest! Ask a question and let the guest answer or just do a monologue like the cholesterol series.
This podcast is everything we need right now! As an academic pediatric hospitalist I so appreciate the evidence based approach. This podcast is the place to go for accurate information and the best people to follow on social media!
Invest in some professional equipment or hire someone to help you. The voices are echoing and sharp to the point it hurts the ears even with the volume down.
I really wanted to like this podcast. I loved Danielle Belardo’s interview on Conspiratuality but this podcast is a little too dry and technical. I think the format of having a doctor interview other doctors and experts means there isn’t a lay person perspective or some translation. A science reporter or someone who could interpret some of this info would help, as well as some variation in the production to help keep the listener’s attention. It’s a shame because the very people who need this myth-busting information might be turned off by how technical this podcast is.
As a family practice doc who does obstetrics and takes care of people of all ages, I get questions from patients about topics on all body systems & medical specialties. Evidence based medical practice & advice is incredibly important to me. This podcast is fantastic!! I appreciate so much your calling out lies & disinformation from evidence & true science, which is ever evolving as new research comes out. I’m now recommending this podcast for my colleagues and patients. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! Keep going! Real medicine needs you! —-Dr. V. , MN
I’ve been looking forward to this series! Two items I hope are covered are: (1) what options do women (especially post menopausal women) have to deal with high cholesterol; and (2) what is the bottom line with respect to women and statins - advice I received indicated that statins will reduce a post-menopausal woman’s cholesterol levels, but do not change outcomes (ie, do not reduce incidences of atherosclerosis).
I’m really loving this podcast. Dr. Belardo is super smart, and also likeable/relatable. I love that she interviews true experts on each topic discussed and I have learned so much that I will take with me. I have fallen victim to lots of instagram pseudoscience and regret the money I’ve wasted. I’d love to hear a podcast going through Breast Implant Illness because I know there and thousands and thousands of people in each side of this topic and so much misinformation that is causing people to make major medical and surgical decision. Thanks for all that you do to educate the public!
Appreciate your show, Dr. Belardo! I’m a dietitian and will recommend your show.
This is currently my favorite podcast! So much myth busting and so much good evidence based advice! Thanks!
I would highly recommend this show to ANYONE looking to improve their Health!
This podcast has an expected agenda towards conventional healthcare, medicine over supplements, organic isn’t better, MD over NMD and so forth. That is why I decided to listen, to gain a well rounded perspective of both extremes. The reason this is getting 1 star is because they consistently state that the data and science supports what their saying, but never link or read the “evidence” on the episode, that would make them more credible and informative. When I listen to podcast with a more natural approach to food and medicine, they are usually referencing the data and linking it so everyone can learn and inform themselves. This podcast definitely is coming from a doctor who approaches all medical conversations as if you are an ignorant person who cannot possibly know anything about the medical field or ask questions contrary to what they present you. If you know, you know. I came to the podcast for evidence based perspectives against the functional medicine movement, this is someone telling me what to do without showing me the facts. Lastly, I’ll leave you with these questions, the results are why Americans are moving away from blindly trusting the conventional health “experts”. Where do Americans rank on global health? How much money do we poor into healthcare and medical interventions compared to other countries? Are our children healthier? What do cancer rates look like in America compared to other peer countries? What about cancer in children? What ingredients does our FDA approve, but other countries ban? I’ll come back to this podcast later to see if there is any real evidence shared fact checking going on.
I’m loving this podcast! My new favorite activity is to walk and listen to this podcast. I know Dr. Belardo mentioned doing a podcast on cholesterol, but I’d also like to hear a podcast on vegan nutrition and if there is any importance to complimentary protein.
Thankful for some light in the very gloomy wellness tunnel!
I’ve only had the chance to listen to a few episodes so far but each episode I’m impressed with the caliber of experts and the quality of information shared in an easily digestible format!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Your podcast has been so helpful and incredibly informative! I have family members that have lost $thousands to functional medicine and I myself dabbled in the wellness world with “spiritual” practices. While I always only claimed that this was for fun and relaxation, and it benefited me mentally. But my peers were claiming to “heal” and were promoting anti-medicine and anti-vaccine. They claimed people had adrenal fatigue and leaky gut- and I would argue these things are not real diagnoses !!! I’ve left the wellness world and practice yoga and meditation on my own now. Your podcast is incredible and I hope more people hear it and wise up to reality!
Disinformation is so difficult to wade through so I appreciate when experts give us some tips to cut through it!
In your episode description, you write: “Thank you so much for taking the time to contribute to a generation that values fact over fiction” What do you specifically mean with your use of the word “generation”?
I throughly enjoy learning the facts from this podcast but i typically leave more confused than before. This podcast busts the myths but then leaves out what the actual right thing to do is.
Pesticides most certainly impact bees, which is having a devastating impact on our ability to pollinate our food. There is lots of data to support this, which is ridiculously easy to find. Is Monsanto or Bayer paying for this episode? Why is there no disclosure statement on what you purport to be an evidence-based program? Scientists can be bought, also. Lastly, the word “like” needs to be bleeped from your program. This word makes your guests sound ignorant.
Crazy how much really bad information is in these podcasts. Repeatedly putting down other MD’s and DO’s that after medical school studied Functional Medicine, they know what she knows and can follow the science as well as anyone. I would see a physician that recommends nutrition any day over one who’s only toolbox is Pharmaceuticals, which come with so many negative side effects. Read your inserts, then read the side effects of your nutritional supplements. One has a list as long as your arm, the other has mostly none. Educate yourselves and choose wisely.
Dr. Danielle is an incredible host and brings light to so many important topics that have often been set askew by the pervasive nature social media. She and her guests are fantastic, incredibly intelligent and they deliver information aka THE FACTS in an approachable way for both novices and experts alike! Can’t wait for more this year!! Thank you!!

I have learned so much listening to this podcast and I love that it is all evidence based so you know you can trust it! It has introduced me to so many knowledgeable people in multiple fields too. I also like that the topics are common myths! I would like to learn more about bloating. Some say it’s normal and some say it’s not. There are also so many ways out there to reduce but I don’t know if these actually work or if I need to be concerned about bloating. Thank you!!
Love the evidence based info in a world full of IG gimmicks & health memes. Curious about your thoughts re animal protein. So much of the information out there is either keto/carnivore zealots or from vegans with a healthy user bias. Thanks for all the work you do!
I love this pod and always learn something!!

As a newer nurse practitioner, the info on this podcast is so helpful for talking to patients who have been diagnosed with vague conditions like leaky gut and candida. I would love a deeper dive into EBV and Lyme! There is so much confusing discussion online (and in pseudoscience) on the long term effects of both of these.
A new listener & I love this podcast! Danielle does a great job at making the content relatable, understandable while confirming it’s factual. I can’t wait for more episodes. In particular as a first time mom, I can’t wait to hear an episode with a pediatrician!
I love this podcast and find it really informative. I started from the beginning and just got to the more recent episodes that discuss weight loss, and while I still like the podcast and have recommended it to all my coworkers, I’m now hesitant to recommend it to anyone. In a culture where eating disorders are so prevalent, the conversations of weight loss seem tone deaf. The podcast host and guests seem to equate weight loss with health. I would love to hear an episode debunking the thin=health=good line of thinking. Dr. Belardo alluded to a patient ran marathons and happened to be fat- ok, so was that patient unhealthy? And if so, was it directly caused by their weight? What about fat stigma in healthcare? I love that the podcast explains the science behind losing weight, but don’t love that it promotes intentional weight loss without any qualifications.
I found this podcast through Kaylyn Bristowe. I can’t stop listening. I love the information and all the myths. Keep the episodes coming.❤️

Love this! Heard you on Kaitlyn’s B’s podcast and now I’m listening to all of your episodes! I’m in the health and fitness field and get so confused by everything. Thanks for clarity!
Thank you for the podcast. Please talk about heavy metal toxicity from fish/seafood intake in relation to heavy metal testing and functional medicine. Thanks

So glad I found this podcast! It’s refreshing to hear non-biased and factual information from an actual board certified medical doctor. You've already saved me from wasting $$ on unnecessary supplements. Big fan!!
This podcast is truly a must-listen! Dr. Danielle is sparking crucial conversations around all the hot topics in the wellness space - super grateful to have such a fantastic resource to cut through the marketing and give us the straight facts!
I love this podcast and all of the wellness myths it debunks! Women spend thousands of dollars on so-called wellness cures due to slick marketing that’s not backed by scientific research. This podcast sets the record straight.
