Couldn’t have chosen better cases to investigate, but it is PAINFULLY scripted. It seems like a lot of research and work went into this podcast, but the laziness of only recording AFTER reaching the conclusion and choosing to “recreate” scenes via the two hosts literally reading off dialogue from a script with very obvious (and bad) acting, has distracted me so badly I can’t handle listening to more than 1 episode in a row. One scene that got me was them “heading to a library” to “research” the victim, where they use sound effects of a paper pages being rubbed together, some keyboard clacking, then complete silence while the hosts read lines of dialogue back & forth like, “wait, is it true she did this?” “Oh that’s interesting we should look into that.” “Something strange is definitely going on here.” Like WHY?!!! Don’t insult your listener’s intelligence. If you knew you were making a podcast, couldn’t you just bring a recorder with you to actually capture some audio while researching & capture candid discussion? Or simply omit that bit altogether as it adds nothing to the story but filler to make more episodes to squeeze in more intrusive commercials, or *remind* listeners how much time you spent on this. Be sincere, be honest. Everyone has notes or reads prepared outlines for Podcasts, but VERY few TRUE Crime/Documentary Podcasts fake dialogue between hosts like this, and it’s unethical in addition to being almost intolerable to listen to. Also, why frame the telling of this story by literally posing questions to the silent listener, instead of simply reporting? Again — undermining the intelligence of your listener, which is the biggest mistake by any media or content creator/producer. I sincerely hope you learned from Season 1 & improved your presentation for Season 2, or I’m just not gonna continue with this. Your other Podcast Pretend seems to be much better, likely because it’s not OVER-produced. Just stick to the story & use better recording equipment if you insist on ONLY conducting PHONE INTERVIEWS with witnesses & subjects. You can record direct from the phone itself, or buy phone-recording equipment. It’s incredibly lazy and unprofessional to just record distorted audio from speaker-phone. Majority of reporters do and travel to your subject. You’ll likely get more out of that interview and the build-up leading up to it, so you don’t have to perform “researching” sessions with bad sound effects & acting to move the story along. Be professional and respect your audience!
