Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen

Reviews For Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen

I wrote a review about speaking too fast which I’d like to rescind. Turns out my phone settings had changed and that was affecting my sound. After adjustment I found that it was much better, normal again. So it was my fault and I apologize. This is a great story which I have really enjoyed, hence my initial frustration. ✌🏼😁
Love this! So exciting the closer they get to solving this. Definitely worth subscribing. Can’t wait for the next episode
This podcast is extremely addicting, to say the least. The delivery is A1, Hands down the best podcast I’ve ever listened to.
Riveting story that I can’t stop listening too!
I listen to a lot of different podcast and I think this is my all time favorite. I am going to be very sad when it’s all over. Excellent job!
What a ride listening to every episode and trying to figure out what this scam is. Just finished season 1 and can’t wait for season 2. Seriously! What will I listen to now? Lol

Definitely one of my favorite podcasts of all time. I love that it’s true crime without somebody being murdered.
This series is exactly what you want in a podcast - entertaining, well research, insane premise. It makes my 40 commute zoom by with each episode. Love!
You simply can’t believe it. I am on the edge of my seat, find the con Queen!
Gripping story, gorgeous sound design.
This show is super intriguing, on both an emotional and psychological level. It feels more human and accesible than most “true crime” podcasts, and while the manipulation and con artist activity is upsetting, it’s a bit of an easier swallow than most gruesome, violent crime podcasts.
Conflating gender fluid, transgender, and other distinct queer identities while also constantly stating that the scammer is “really” a man is ignorant and obtuse at best, and transphobic at worst. It’s always baffling to me in shows like this, when the host is telling you about all the research they’ve done, that they’ve dedicated zero time to researching how NOT to sound like a bumpkin. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it wasn’t their intent- but they essentially further the viewpoint that trans identities are inherently a scam. Not only disappointing but DANGEROUS for transfolx everywhere. I would hope they apologize in the future.
I’ve had such a great listening experience I never want it to end.
This is getting draaaaaagged out beyond belief. Relatively certain this could’ve all been handled in 6 episodes or so. I’ve listened to every episode and I’m at the point that I kind of don’t care how this ends up.
This has me drawn in...people will do ANYTHING for the Love of money, fame, or status. The psychological concept of it all is crazy in the world we live in. I can’t WAIT for this episode to drop!
I love this story and the way you tell the story. I don't mind some chatty, folksy humor in true crime podcasts, but sometimes it just makes a podcast annoying to hear. You include some humorous moments, but keep the story front & center. Voices are important too, so a good broadcast voice matters and yours are easy to listen to. Thanks!
I’m anxiously awaiting each new chapter!!!
Obsessed. Clever. Entertaining. Well researched and honest.
So good I can’t wait to hear what happens next!
I was enthralled with the first three episodes, but after that the quality has dropped off. It’s now a lot of filler and the same information over and over again. I barely paid attention to the last episode (number 8). I will keep listening because I’m interested to see how it ends. But I don’t see it finishing with that much of a bang.
Was a huge fan of this until the most recent episode. You constantly refer to non binary or trans people as him or he. You strongly suspect the con artist could be trans but still refer to them as him. Also, Indonesian influences are more suspicious because they’re “gender bending”?? I know a lot of people will just roll their eyes at my review so that aside, it feels like you’re just dragging out the podcast for ad money at this point.
The story is really cool, but the podcast and reporting and just not great compared to other investigative pods out there. They throw out a lot of information without telling us where it came from or how they found out. It’s like the most interesting parts are left on the cutting room floor. The speculation about genderqueer/trans identity is clumsy, as well as their insistence that the scammer is a man from early on without offering any evidence to the listener. Overall just disappointing.
I find myself eagerly awaiting the next episode to see if they are going to uncover the con queen. Well done and fast paced.
Excellent podcast. True crime with the offender still at large! I need to find out who this person is and what they want. It’s still so unclear WHY they pull this scam. Bummed to have to wait for the next episode. I want it NOW! A MUST listen for true crime enthusiasts plus everyone in the film, TV and media industries.
Would have been better to drop all the episodes at once. This one meanders and is wordy and can barely keep my interest as a weekly drop.
I’m obsessed with this podcast! I can’t stop listening!
This podcast is great and really well produced and put together and I’m obsessed with the outro song. BUT I feel like I’ve been listening to this for months and its like I’m basically listening to episodes 1 & 2 on repeat. Why are you dragging this out so long? I get that it’s a chronological thing but it’s just repeating information every episode. New victim, same exact con over and over and over. Ready to just find out who it is already...
This is an excellent podcast - sophisticated storytelling and well presented, with plenty of first-hand interviews. There are a large number of characters and it is sometimes hard to keep them all straight, but the hosts do a very good job of reminding us of who everyone is. I am not at all troubled by the complaints about the episodes being strung out. That is the whole point: it is a complex and involved set of facts, and the hosts take us on all of the twists and turns that they, themselves, encounter. If you want a quick, simple, crime story, this podcast is not for you. But if you want a podcast that will grab your attention and keep you guessing, it is outstanding.
Fascinating subject but the episodes are too short and don’t propel story enough with each one. Just when they’re going to get to something interesting, the episode ends. Also podcasters needs to consider headphones when designing intro/outro music. This one has what must be the most migraine inducing ones.
The story is interesting, but I’m so turned off by the lack of quarantining by the folks working on it. They mention several times in an episode that they’re all traveling for fun over the summer and even say that the investigator is “driving around America with her family because she’s bored of quarantining.” We’re all bored of it, but we do it because it’s necessary. Annoyed me so much that I stopped listening. Imagine being proud of it!!
Currently my favorite podcast - I’m obsessed!
This podcast is so good that while you are dying to know all the answers, you never want it to end
I’m enjoying the podcast but ... Uh oh watch out, we have some badasses up in here! I don’t know if it was meant as humor that they weren’t going to wait for the FBI to do the work, THEY, the intrepid podcast crew, were going after the scammer themselves! Um, come on now. There’s a huge difference between a Special Agent of the FBI and an “investigative journalist.” If you want to be Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo’s job might be open soon.
A bit frustrating to start listening only to find listed shows unavailable.. to bad.. it was an interesting story.
You guys are investigative journalists. Look up the NYT and Verge pieces about Talkspace. Your podcast is great. But is Talkspace really the type of service you want to promote?
Very compelling topic, can’t wait to find out the end of the scheme
I’m two episodes in, and I’ve enjoyed every second of it
I can’t stop listening! The mystery and reporting really pulls you in.

Very interesting- you can’t even make this up! Looking forward to see how it concludes
I’m fascinated with this story. Can’t wait each week for the following episodes.
This is a hard one for me. The story is compelling but I find it difficult not to be infuriated by how each episode meanders. It seems like they’re trying to fill time or draw the episode count out way longer than necessary. It’s also told in a way hat you’re basically just following the narrator’s journey— lots of him talking rather than the story being told. Maybe this telling just isn’t for me because I’m so much more interested in the con queen’s motivations and how they schemed than the quest to find them.
GRIPPING and the intro is so so good
I agree with other reviewers that the large amount of filler takes away from the quality of this podcast. We need to know how hard it was to connect to the FBI spokesperson, only to be told nothing? And what is it with this trend of recording interviews in restaurants with all the background noise? If you want to invest minutes, rather than the hours taken by this podcast, there are many articles online that do a better job with this subject.

This is a fantastic podcast. This is not one that will allow you to binge, at least if you are following this week by week. That’s what’s cool about this. Yes, they are extending it out, but it’s so nice to have to wait. Definitely psychologically trippy. Keep up the great work. Outstanding journalism. The people who are leaving negative comments are doing so only because they want a quick story so that they can move onto the next. We all need a little more patience in our lives. This story keeps getting more bizarre every time I listen. From time to time I get the sense that we - the audience are being scammed, but that’s actually kind of fun! Love you guys. Can’t wait to see how this one ends.
I look forward to new episodes! Great story. As someone who works in the film business I find it so close to home. So scandalous! Love the narration, producing, and music is great too. Fun listen, worth it.
