i found this podcast about a year into the pandemic, ecstatically listened to all back episodes, and have looked forward to tuesday new episodes for over a year. i respect the intellect and individual oeuvres of both j and k. that is why i must write this review - because i am on the verge of unsubscribing and i hope that the show could right itself before i fold (or the show does). feedback given because i appreciate and care about the show. 1) there is a lack of focus in each episode. why not a little preparation beforehand - identify a particular text, product, body function, state of consciousness, etc. to focus on? we move between daily life, repeated declarations that topics are boring or j or k "have nothing", and referencing topics previously discussed w/o covering new ground. what are we working towards? 2) the dynamic between the two, as other reviewers have noted, has felt stilted, as discussed in other recent reviews. 3) repeated discussion of the myriad rules about food, exercise, etc. that j follows without any critical consciousness about the function of these rules -- why the blood sugar obsession, for example? why the obsessive following of TA, who has for >a decade published diet plans w/ restrictive calories aimed at weight loss and unrealistic body standards for women? -- is triggering to me & likely others in eating disorder recovery. j & k are not naming the role of diet culture and disordered regulation of their bodies in conversations about food and exercise rules, and it gets hard to listen to. i get it, and i've been there, but maybe we should take some of those topics off the table for a while or else start being real about the complex dynamics surrounding rigid exercise and restrictive diets. i'd also be interested in hearing about these two comics' relation to image, body image etc as artists dealing w/ hyper image conscious world of entertainment.
