WOE.BEGONE

Reviews For WOE.BEGONE

I usually have a hard time listening to podcasts that are done like this, where each episode builds on the last, because I get bored easily, but this podcast is SO good! It’s got plenty of plot twists, isn’t easily predictable and the “challenges” create smaller storylines within the big story. I love it!
When I couldn’t take any more true crime I turned to fiction podcasts, esp speculative fiction. So many of these podcasts have one or two strong elements – story, editing, etc – but woe.begone has it all. The voice actors are excellent and the writing is particularly strong. Despite the occasional dark nature of the subject matter, the writing is witty (I’ve laughed aloud more than once) and even moving. I care about several of the characters. I was bummed when I caught up with the release of new episodes and will become a supporter as soon as I can. In the meantime, play woe.begone – you won’t regret it. And you’ll probably be able to keep both of your arms.
A wild and interesting story that keeps getting better, along with witty narration and a cool, original soundtrack.
Spoiler for episode 2 just FYI Anyways so I can’t stop laughing at the second episode when Mike says he can’t just call up his friends and be like “hey guys I’m just brainstorming but I need to know the best way to remove my left arm at the shoulder…” because if I said that to my friends they would not find this bizarre at all and would casually go through the possibilities 😂 anyways immediately subscribed to patreon after that . Ok well bye now
The story starts off strong and has just gotten more compelling over time. It's SO well-written with an incredibly human cast of characters. It's a labor of love, so full of heart, obviously thoughtfully crafted. The soundtrack is top notch and there's an absurdly impressive number of vocal tracks as well. The blend of horror elements, tension, and humor is executed in a way that keeps it feeling fresh and keeps me wanting more. I don't think I can praise this show enough. Do yourself a favor and listen to WOE.BEGONE.
It’s kind of basic in that it’s just basically one guy and good but not elaborate editing. Story is brilliant and the concept is a lot of fun. One of the most engaging fiction podcasts I’ve heard in ages. Music is great 👍

i’m addicted. also, i think it’s somehow affecting my literal inner monologue ?? and i’m only on episode 19
This is it. This is the best it’s ever going to get for us. Hang on to your chronology chart, list of Hunters and Mikes, your digital ambitions, and also your Ty Betteriges’, because it’s going to be a bumpy, painful, yet, I think, rewarding ride through time. I am straight and happily married, but still am in love with Mike Walters. Cowboy Mike. Full stop. That is all. 10/10. If you are like me, you will cherish plugging in some good headphones, hitting play, listening to the intro music, and…enjoy….
Dark humor ✅ Time travel ✅ Really good writing ✅ Characters you will get unhealthily attached to ✅ Amazing VA work ✅ Honestly what else would you want from a podcast? I’d commit crimes for these characters. Gay crimes.

It would be a great storyline. If it wasn’t such bad voice, acting talks 100 miles an hour shame he ruined it.
I binged this show and now i cant stop thinking about it!! this podcast had made me cry & laugh & theorize more than any other ive listened to. it strikes such a good balance of being devastating & hopeful. mike walters is such an interesting character, it took so little convincing to make him a murderer, and yet i want to keep him safe and happy, but that seems so impossible. absoluetly instant fave podcast
Found this via Nine II Midnight in the storage papers feed. I’m about 2/3 of the way caught up and it delivers every episode. So far it’s like what if Terry Miles had no budget for a supporting cast but took on a writing partner who had a sick twisted mind and highly superior pacing/story arc skills. Wish I could give it 100 stars.
Started listening to this podcast thanks to the Nine to Midnight halloween special featured on The DLO of Somewhere, Ohio (another great podcast), where the short story of this Woe.Begone's creator/narrator caught my attention. I liked that they have a quick-paced cadence, whereas a lot of other podcast narrators (in horror and horror-adjacent genres) often speak more slowly and dramatically. Also love a podcast that makes me genuinely chuckle out loud when i'm least expecting it. I'm only 9 eps in but excited to see where the story goes. It's always intriguing to have a protagonist that you're not exactly rooting for, but not-not rooting for? Like Mike Walters is a very authentic guy and that's great because when a horror podcast protagonist is a plucky inquisitive 20-something you know what to expect and it's kinda 🙄😐🫤 sometimes. But Mike is just a dude looking out for number one and that's something all humans can respect at the end of the day, making him a more genuine character and keeping me more invested in the story than I am in him personally, which is cool because then it's like I myself am personally involved in Woe.Begone no matter what happens to the specific characters involved, and this is a credit to the author for great storytelling. TLDR: Kool beans podcast so far, good dry humor and nice quick pacing both in narration and story, happy to continue listening :]
WHY ON EARTH did it take me until NOW to find WOE.BEGONE? What a premise! I love Mike’s DARK SENSE OF HUMOUR. I think I was all in by Ep 2 and what the game made him do…only WILDER from there. You must listen AND you must write a song about a Train.
As a time traveling lover of ARGs and pathological screw up, this podcast speaks to me on a molecular level. A perfect blend of dark humor and slapstick gore, I can’t possibly recommend this enough. My only regret is I can only give it 5 stars
My fav podcast. Mash up of Dexter and the Milkman of St Gaffes, (second fav podcast). Excellent and fun storytelling.
I wish they would leave the politics out of it. We get bombarded all day every day. I just wish they would leave it out. It’s not a frequent occurrence so it’s not a deal breaker, the podcast is good! I definitely recommend giving it a listen.
The horror part is definitely towards the beginning. But it’s short and once you get past that it’s a really cool multiverse podcast. I love it!
Amazing plot and story, I can’t stop listening. Definitely like Tanis and rabbits as others have said but in all the best ways. The narrator does an amazing job.
Favorite podcast! Nobody doing it like this!
John Dies at the End meets Tanis, in the best way
As always I encourage you to listen and make your own decision, but my rating is an average of 5 stars for the first couple of seasons and 1 for the latter. Latter seasons bear no resemblance to the first couple: so much talky-talk and filler. There's been comparisons to PNWS and Terry Miles: well, think about what happened to TANIS. There's really nothing wrong with a story having a beginning, a middle, and an end. Yet again, a podcaster has loaded us in a cool car, taken us on an exciting ride down a unique highway - then suddenly we get off at a rural exit and sit on the porch of a Cracker Barrel for hours waiting for our name to be called, whilst everyone tells long stories in funny accents.
I’d like to see T*rry M*les try and top this one
WOE. BEGONE breathlessly rattles off concepts that I'll always find myself looking up afterward and that's my favorite kind of fiction - where it feels like the story is maneuvering like a dark ride through a world I know nothing about and my only chance of survival is to keep listening.
This is a must listen if you love good story, sarcasm, my goodness it’s funny and really well done. Kudos!
From the simultaneously annoying and lovable protagonist(s) the twisty narrative this sci-horror podcast is remarkable. If you are tired of corporate fiction, try this! So worthwhile
problematic fave mike walters deserves a boyfriend and a break
I appreciate the self aware world building and I am always looking forward to new episodes. The character development is something else. #protectmikewalters
came for the thrills stayed for the chills great story, amazing sound design and some really intriguing writing. like you know how stephen king/joe hill/william blatty and the rest of those goons always take care to build the story/characters up to the actual spooky stuff while dovetailing some greater metaphor/theme into the action? well imo woe.begone does that better than most audio dramas/books ive listened to and still manages to get in its share of scares, highly recommened
From the very beginning, I’ve been hooked on this podcast. It’s so impressive that one person makes all aspects of this. Mike Walters is an absolutely insufferable protagonist, and for that I love him. I can’t get enough of where he’s going with this - and the show ramps up… FAST. If you like horror and sci fi, I highly recommend.
Funny, clever, dark, intense. Great production, airtight plotting, incredible music. Literally what else do you need?
This is a Sci/Fi game based fiction podcast that doesn’t take itself too seriously, gets to the point, and doesn’t string you along in a manipulative way (unless there is intention). If you are new to fiction podcasts: this is a very very good one that you should listen to and support. Not enough people know about it. If you are into fiction podcasts, this is like a more fun, more irreverent, more likely to get in trouble with your mom second cousin of TANIS/Rabbits. I’m also feeling some DNA threads of Wolf 359 (another superb fiction podcast) in there too. To be clear, this podcast stands on its own, albeit one well style eyebrow raised at some of the excesses of the genre. Certainly worth your time. 10/10, 5/5, it will make your woe be gone for a while.
Absolute favorite exchange in any podcast ever : “guys on scruff don’t read subtext Mike!” “As frustrated as I was with him, nothing he said was untrue” Keep up the great story, really enjoying it. Also realizing how lax my internet security is now lol
Comes out of the gate swinging and just gets better. Good production, great music, compelling plot. Very unsettling.
Great podcast. Have patience. Keep playing. Watch the game runners.
Sometimes the dialogue and narrator are a little extreme as others have said but the story makes it well worth it, don’t think to much into it or you won’t have fun.
Quit halfway through episode 9, wanted to soldier through to see where the interesting plot went, but couldn’t stomach anymore of the pithy “humor” and generally poor writing. Stop blindly using your thesaurus, you are consistently misusing a word or two in every episode.
I can’t tell if this dude is obsessed with PNWS or if he hates them. Half the time he’s trying to emulate the, the other half he’s talking trash about them. The writing is sloppy and cringey at times, especially when he tries to force a sarcastic insincerity. There might be a decent story in there but the flippant narration style and times where he straight up tells you how to feel about something makes it unlistenable. I wanted to like it. I can’t continue past episode 10. It’s just a sad ripoff of better written and performed podcasts.
Pros: This hits all the things I love: mystery, puzzle solving, alternate universes, arg. The twists and turns keep me guessing, and definitely several “I didn’t see that coming” moments. Cons: jumps into the extreme a little fast. I mean, a problem I usually have with a lot of podcasts is too slow of a buildup, but I could have used a few intermediate steps between the first and second challenge
I love the whole ARG Horror/Unfiction genre, but got burnt out on how so many of the most popular stories become convoluted and leave us unsatisfied. W.bg is not only a remedy to that, but delivers fun twists with just enough dark humor to let us know they’re in on the joke. The writing is so fun and memorable; a lot of phrases will get stuck in my head like an earworm. Also the narrator’s distain for Dexter gives me life, “I hate that show, I’ve seen it 4 times” is so hilariously relatable. This show is criminally underrated, I’ve been recommending it to all the horror-lovers I know. I already got my sib and a few other friends hooked on it!

It’s like Saw meets Black Mirror. Extremely entertaining
I was hooked from the very beginning. Great to binge.
I love this story. Check it out!
Honestly, I love me some creepy internet game storytelling late at night after a glass of wine. This is that podcast! Excellent storyline that is told from a unique sociopathic point of view. Great music as well! I'd highly recommend to all you strange and unsuals. PS: This was recommended to me on a reddit form. Lolzs.
I am a huge fan of podcasts related to mysterious games and this one is a welcome addition to the likes of Left Right Game or Rabbits. One of the things I really appreciate is the music in the episodes and other sound effects which help to make it seem like a whole world. I am quick to determine if I like a podcast, sometimes turning off before the first episode is completed. This one hooked me from the beginning and I listen to the new episode as soon as they are released.
