Bear Grease

Reviews For Bear Grease

This is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to and am super excited to go to their live show in May We love This Country Life it is funny and has great morals please make them more often!!!!!!❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
We went to the Smokey’s as a family. After listening to your stories of the southern history and lifestyle it made our trip more interesting. Love to visit would hate go through the heat of summer you can keep it. LOL thanks and God bless
This has quickly become my favorite podcast… hands down! Just regular bubbas doing what we truly enjoy, and throwing in great info, & some belly laughs along the way. I find myself waiting impatiently for the next installment. Keep it up gentlemen, this brings a smile to MANY.
Love the great content, Clay! And Brent! Bear Grease, the Render, and This Country Life are at the top of my podcast list! Love recommending this clean outdoor podcast to my friends!
This country life podcast is without a doubt the finest collection of stories told by a southern gentleman with an incredible talent for telling stories. I have laughed out loud, teared up, laughed again. Brent is great and a wonderful addition to meateater. There is only one thing I can think of that is wrong with this podcast, it’s not long enough Can we start a petition to have Brent make these wonderful episodes a bit longer. 25 mins goes by to fast. Much love from Massachusetts, Jeff
I’m not a big podcast guy but this has completely changed the game for me! Keep up the good work!
In your third installment of the Wilderness episodes some of your interviews talked about how we weren’t managing Wilderness and that we can’t. One thing to remember is that the Wilderness Act does allow for administrative action. It just requires that the agency evaluate the “minimal tool required” and use that. What we need to do is motivate the agencies to manage them with that minimal tool. Those guard rails are there to keep from large scale actions that aren’t considering ALL the characteristics of Wilderness. Think about the tamarisk tree. It was put in place to address erosion and it worked. It worked so good that now we have a genetically modified beetle to address it. The Wilderness Act put those guardrails there to slow action, not to stall it. Great series, keep it up. You all are doing amazing things.
I wish I was articulate enough to fully express how much I love this podcast. There is an underlying pleasantness and optimism to be found here that I find wonderfully out of sync from all of the angst and anxiety of the world. It truly is as advertised, preserving ideas, histories, and stories that must not be forgotten.
I absolutely love Bear Grease and I have listened to every single episode, but these wilderness episodes were hard to make it through for me. I always enjoy learning something new and retain a lot of information that I have learned from Bear Grease, however I would have failed these lessons. I found myself thinking about squirrel hunting and fishing plans for the upcoming weekend and the podcast just turned into background noise. Keep up the great work with the show. Side note: Bear Grease and This Country Life has become a go to for me and my nine year old hunting buddy. It’s great to have a good family friendly show to listen and learn to together.
Love this series! I’ve listened to every episode religiously since the bear grease podcast started and this series really made me think about what I’m leaving for my future children. I’m 31 and from central AR. Just in my short time I’ve seen urbanization creep in on places that I use to think were just the wildest places ever (my world wasn’t very big in the late 90s early 2000s.) It hurts me to see places I thought held the biggest deer in the world now have subdivisions. Prosperity comes with a cost and most of the time it feels like it’s land. Since listening to bear grease I have joined several organizations that help save and create habitat and hope that I leave something better for future generations.
Great long form story telling with quality production. Clay is a great storyteller, maybe because I’m a yankee and his accent is charming. I don’t care for the Render episodes or This Country Life.
Keep em coming This country life! Love it Y’all some great people! Wilderness pod was super boring!
Awesome Show(Bear Grease) love listening. BUT, enough with the TV Show “Tracker” Not To Good!!! No way y’all are watching that! I hope yall are being paid well to endorse Tracker.
My goodness, I could listen to Brent reeves tell stories forever. One of my favorite things to listen to and always has me laughing!
Love the show. My daughter is always asking to listen. Gerstaecker is my daughter’s favorite one. I’m a believer that in that black cat. Haha
A constant & consistent travel companion
Listening to a bunch of easterners squabble that Yellowstone isn’t wild or wilderness is laughable. Over two million acres of backcountry of an intact ecosystem pre-European contact and harboring the most remote area one get from a road in the Lower 48. The majority of visitors to Yellowstone remain in the developed front country or less than 5% of the over 2 million acres. Furthermore, national parks can as be capitol W wilderness just as any of the other three federal public land agencies can have capitol W wilderness. Even more impressive is the wilderness also bordering and surrounding Yellowstone. Yellowstone is managed as wilderness, as are many other federal lands not officially designated by Congress and signed into law by the president as wilderness.
Best podcast I have ever listened too! Love the stories, facts and humor!!!
Clay is great story teller and keeps a great circle of friends.
I really enjoy the podcast. I listen faithfully. My only criticism is: Clay refers to the Bible pretty often (which I like) but then will push evolution (macro) and millions of years (men came evolved from animals and then rocks or whatever). This atheistic perspective is very concerning to me. I am a young earth Bible believing creationist and from my perspective you don’t have to believe in macro evolution (as opposed to micro evolution which is changes within a species) to come across as knowledgeable and intelligent. Thanks for hearing me out.
I have been listening to the Meateater podcast for several years and started from episode 1 to the most current. I had heard Clay and Brent several times on Steve’s podcast and it was always at the back of my mind to start listening. Well, I finally gave it a shot a few months ago and I have been binging it ever since. I have learned so much from this podcast about American history and about people in general. I recently reached Brent’s podcast and I am in awe of his story telling. I don’t know what it is about how he tells a story but no podcast has ever brought tears to my eyes like his. It’s not because it’s sad but because of the happy moments of his life and he pulls you right in. I hope he continues for many years to come. Thank you Brent, Clay and the whole MeatEater crew. I always look forward to listening.
Great Podcast! I’m on episode 22, so looking forward to the other episodes!! I do have a question though and I hope I don’t offend you when I ask this but… Has anyone ever told you that you remind them of a young Sob Schneider with a mustache (awesome btw!) and a cowboy hat? 🤠 😬 Love the rendered episodes too!!!
You can’t tell me the beeping in the render isn’t you guys making microwave burritos. It’s not the computer. 11/10
Clay, this podcast is right at the top and might be the best one yet. Thanks and keep them coming please.
Clay that was probably your best work ever. What a story. A compelling tale of life, decisions, regret and loss. Thanks for your efforts…..
Great Show! How many hot pockets are y’all gonna eat?
Bear grease is by far my favorite podcast. I’ve listened to every single episode and there’s so many that just blow me away… but I have a new favorite series! The Donnie Baker story. I’ve never had any sympathy for a poacher, in general, they turn my stomach. But I could feel Donnie’s remorse through his words and story. What a story. I can’t imagine going through what his family did, however it sounds like he’s a better man and father as a result of the pressure cooker his life was for a decade. I’d consider it an honor to shake his hand.
Thanks Clay for the Donnie Baker. Keep up the great work. I’ll be listening…
Bear Grease is easily the best content available on the hunting lifestyle. Thank you Clay for your work in bringing our culture to the forefront.
I have loved the podcast since its origin, however I’m no longer able to listen at work since the podcast was rated explicit. (I’m a self proclaimed cheapskate and refuse to own a phone when my work provides one) I’m not sure what’s going on, but if Brent and Clay are considered explicit, then Mother Teresa must have spit bacca’ and fist fought. Hush down the language boys or get the Isabell brothers their own channel. Let’s keep Bear Grease for everyone!
There is nothing explicit about this podcast, and that is one of the reasons it is stands out. In a sea of muck and mire that is modern media, the Bear Grease Podcast is a refreshing oasis of clean story telling that explores fascinating tales as a means to delve into the depths of human nature. Truly an excellent podcast put on by some truly wonderful people. Clay, Brent, and the rest of the crew are top-notch individuals.
Pure Americana!
This was my favorite podcast until today when I find out that for some reason, it’s explicit. My parents have restrictions on were I can’t listen to explicit content, so now I can’t listen to the best meat eater podcast. Five stars when I could listen to it.
I enjoyed 142 & 146 “Alaska Stories” today working outside in some miserable Texas weather. Wow, Clay is a great narrator and everyone sharing the stories was educational and very emotional. Thanks Steve for sharing your experience. You never know where you will find common ground. Enjoy life.

This is my favorite podcast, and I’m super confused why it’s rated explicit. There’s no swearing or graphic content.
It’s pretty rare to find the crossroads of stories that I can relate to told by folks who sound like the people where I’m from with the depth, honesty, and intellect that Clay brings. Thank you.
Such a great episode sir! The Bible says to be humble over and over almost as much as it says to love one another. The power of Humility can’t be overstated or measured, but so life changing. This man’s character is honestly so much more than it was before his mistake. He has grown and recognized the error and how he such be and his desire to be better. This is real life and this story will help others as well as re enforcement to those of us who have dealt with similar things. - man is born of sin and our lives r full of struggle to be the men and women God created us to be. Some days we can lay down feelings good with our decisions and some days we know we missed the mark. It’s real life and I am very grateful for u choosing this as well as Donnie sharing it. Good on u all. God bless - Todd Boswell
Just making it known that there is a Black Panther in my 1 year olds Animal Book…train them in the way they should go…
This podcast is really wonderful. It’s DENSE with enriching history about wildlife, the outdoors, and American culture, and incredibly positive. :). And perhaps my favorite part: 100% NO politics discussed— a tall order for these past few years. Thanks, Mr. Newcomb, and please keep it coming!! 😃
Clay and Brent have taken over the MeatEater podcast network with the best and most engaging content available. I tell EVERYONE about this podcast. Keep it up gents!
I listened to the Donnie Baker episode. Well done! Looking forward to episode #2. Will listen to more of your podcast in the future.
I was listening to the story and Next thing I know I was in Summer Bible camp. I Love most of Clays content on his shows but I wish he would save the preaching for Sunday. Thank You and keep up the good work!
I was just listening to episode 177 and Clay mentioned being afraid that the history of Daniel Boone would be boring to listeners. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve recommended listening to the podcast just because you have made it entertaining and real. Sometimes I feel like I’m actually sitting there in the moment watching history unfold. I can’t thank you enough for doing what Mr. Zabel, my high school history teacher, never could do you’ve made a history lover out of me.
Clay I am a fan. Behind Matt Walsh and Jocko your a close 3. I’m from Long Island and just remember there are some good folk up here. That said this is an amazing historical podcast that is for anyone looking to broaden their horizons. Thanks bud.
My exposure to Clay through the Meateater shows led me to question if this podcast was something I would want to squeeze into the list of podcasts I keep up with. I misunderstood his humor and confidence which led to an incorrect take on who he is and what he is about. I’ve since listened to every show as well as shared the show with countless friends and patients. I can see his genuine pursuit of not only producing a good product but of being a good person, someone who isn’t ashamed of who he is and his faith. This show is great in all of it’s forms, from the main show to the render and this country life, I look forward to all three!
This Country Life is the best! Very wholesome family friendly. Kind of like the Rest of the Story radio show with Paul Harvey. I also love Clay’s show like the one about poacher’s, Boone, and the Mississippi river. Great podcast!
I found Clays podcast this summer while attending the deer expo. I was wearing the hat because I thought it was cool but didn’t know it was a podcast. When a vendor told me, I went and started with the Tecumseh episode and I was hooked. I started listening and then Brent started his This country Life and they are the best. I just hope one day I can meet Clay and Brent and I hope to get the bear grease hat in specter lol Keep up the great work, I am caught up and now recently went back to the beginning and catching up with episodes I skipped.
If I win the lottery, I would put Clay and Brent out of business and hire them to read me bedtime stories every night as I go to sleep! The issue is though I would never go to sleep, they captivate me with their imagery and storytelling capabilities. My favorite podcast! May God continue to bless you and your families, as you share and impact the lives of so many.
Best part of my Friday mornings. Love the show and love my new Case knife.
