i kinda hate the cowboys (i'm a bills fan) but i kept seeing this podcast pop up and i was like "FINE ILL LISTEN" AND I LOVE IT!!!!! š»š»š»it's super good and im not done yet but i HAD to leave a review
Thought provoking and riveting listening. This podcast explores the history of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and its evolution through the decades. I loved it!
Iāve been a Cowboys fan since the age of 5 when my family moved there. Went to 3 Cowboys games as a kid. Tom Landry went to my Church and I actually met him once. This podcast brought all of it back. Iām 51 now, but remember having the DCC posters on my wall . Thank you for making such an eye opening and honest podcast. So well done.
This podcast is so well done. The reporter/host has a magical rapport with her interview subjects and her voice and inflection hold my interest. Bravo! Other hosts should take noteā¦
Love this podcast! Well researched, engaging, insightful, all around great. I love the hostās perspective and her thoughtful approach. She does a great job giving the women space to tell their stories and bringing the listener in for an interesting look behind the curtain.
It just moved a bit too slow for me. Music too repetitive but most of all too much reminiscing of the early years. Thatās just me though. Mildly interestingā¦fast forwarded through a lot.
This series in so far reaching, interesting, informative and just plain addicting!! To hear the story from the ground up is fascinating.
Allllll of the guests were exceptional!! I especially loved the one about the lady that designed the cheerleaders costumes ON a āyellow legal padā, never got ANY credit for it but then it was verified to a āTā by another person in that era that remembers sitting in the same room as she was drawing it on the āyellow legal padā!!
The podcast host is so wonderful in her communication with all the people she interviewed. Really, truly a delight.
I was a competitive cheerleader back in the day and a watcher of the CMT DCC show. Loved this, especially the way it showcases the good, the bad and the ugly for someone who wanted to be an NFL cheerleader as a little girl.
This was such a captivating podcast! Written and narrated so well! I wanted to watch this this podcast- I wanted to see the faces of the past members that were interviewed and any of the documents or pages of the DCC handbook. Always been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and this was great to listen to after binge watching the Netflix series. Great job Sarah!!!
Iām having a fun time listening so far, but I did find all the background music distracting. I felt relief whenever the music cut out and it was just the voices talking. I wish there was about 80% less background music.
Iāve been a big fan of DCC since season one of CMT making the team. Iām so happy to find this podcast. I love her narration and fact finding and interviews. Iāve recommended it to my friends and family who are big Dallas Cowboys football and DCC fans!
This podcast is very professional and well-researched. I learned a lot and have a new respect for the DCC. Sarah is a fantastic host and I hope to hear more from her.
I was never a cheerleader nor wanted to be, but I love to dance and feel free and fun. I know how the girls enjoyed their work but were conned into a world to comply and not complain. Thank you for your work on this piece that sheds light on what was and hopefully not will be. Respect to each other as humans all.
This is a great podcast. It captures a slice of American history through a unique lens. Itās fun, and infuriating, and eye-opening. Sarah Hepola has done an amazing job with this story.
Really enjoyed listening to this podcast. I never knew that the DCC had such an interesting history and hearing from alumni made it that much better! Sarah does an amazing job telling the whole story.
I heard Sarah talking about the podcast in an interview about the current Dallas Cowboys scandal based on that appearance, I knew I wanted to check this one out. It is an amazing series filled with outstanding stories and interesting facts. Easily one of my top podcasts for 2022!
Good podcast about one of the strangest phenomenon of American culture. Itās still remain mystery to me how the āreligiousā parents could encourage their underage daughters to dance half naked in front of a huge crowd of grown up men. I hope that cheerleading will disappear for good in the near future. Sexism and objectivization of womanās body. Horrible!
I loved this podcast. It would be interesting to anyone, but especially someone of my generation who watched the cheerleaders in the 70ās and 80ās. They were so iconic, a definite part of my childhood. I really loved hearing their story directly from them. Well done!
An outstanding podcast about the Dallas cheerleadersā-but also about recent culture and huge societal changesāand fun!!! Sarah Heppolaās voice is perfectāintelligent and warm. Sharp, sharp reporting.
I loved this pod. I was a little girl in the 70ās and I loved the pig tailed cheerleader, Tammy. She Is THE quintessential DCC. Thank you for this perspective. Jerry Jones needs to pay these ladies a lot more-what a joke. Also, I hope noah gets his day soon.
I almost passed it by because I thought it was going to be another politicized podcast. I gave it a chance and am glad I did! It is well told and I found myself laughing so loud with my headphones on that I am positive the people around me thought I might be crazy. It draws you in and makes you see the women behind the uniforms and for a few moments you can live vicariously through their memories, good and bad, of what it felt like to revolutionize professional sports cheering. I recommend this to anyone, I am a Cowboy fan but I know I would love this even if I wasnāt.
It only took the intro for me to be fully hooked, and by the end of the first episode, I was eager to binge listen to the rest of them. Excellent storytelling, incredibly well-researched, thoughtful and intelligent. A MUST-LISTEN!!
I donāt even like football and I rarely listen to podcasts, but Americaās Girls is so so engaging. Sarah Hepolaās voice is warm and expressive (a huge part of enjoying this kind of storytelling) and the narrative thread is exceptional. LOVED the interviews. Takes what you think you know about Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and turns it inside out.
This podcast does a wonderful job of showing the dark side of the DCC. But also they part that people love. You really understand why ladies dream of becoming a cheerleader and at the same time how they become disillusioned.
Sarah and her beautiful voice did an incredible job of showing all sides of the story while making it fun. I too grew up dreaming of being a DCC so this really hit home for me.
I subscribed to this podcast because I have enjoyed other productions by Texas Monthly. I had no vested interest in cheerleading, football, or the DCC. I have found the journalistic style to be like sitting at a roundtable where multiple opinions were welcome and space was given to disagree. In some episodes, you can almost hear Sarah sorting out her opinions in real time. I appreciate that there are not always conclusions drawn or straight lines from point A to point B. This podcast feels like it has brought back the art of discourse.
This show was advertised as talking about the DCC from the womenās point of view and it does not disappoint! I have enjoyed every episode and episode 7 was my favorite. The first few episodes were very interesting to me talking about the history of the DCC and culture in Dallas in the 70s. Iām a native Dallasite but was born after that time so I found that super interesting. Sarah then goes into basically all the women have been through over the years and the really interesting role they play in our society. Not just as cheerleaders but as women. Sarah is a phenomenal writer and host and I just love this show. I get so excited when the next episode airs. Keep it up yāall!
