The only way to get through life is to comfort others and have a sense of humor. Maurice does this with his superb guests and his ongoing story who share their suffering and how they handle it and they prevail.
My mentor in college had forgotten the French resistance, having seen her family taken away and never seen again and when I shared at 19 my ongoing angst and futility which we now realize as anxiety and depression, she said to me that every person feels that way. and the key is maybe not to think of living for happiness because happiness is rare moments and maybe live for purpose instead that changed my life and gave me a reason to live and go on when the clouds come. Excellent show Maurice.
I’m a big fan of GH and Y&R and enjoyed your interviews with all your guests especially Steve Laura and Eric …I also learned a lot about mental health from you Maurice and I hope people who are suffering with this take your advise and seek help from family friends and professionals…I have a better understanding about bipolar and we probably all have experienced it one way or another without knowing…Thank you for all you do.
As someone who grew up watching GH, I love this show and all the guests you have on! As someone who has mental health issues myself- I love these conversations and I appreciate the vulnerability people are willing to share here; it means so much!
As a viewer- It’s easy to get lost in the characters lives that we often don’t think about you as a person with your own personal ups and downs; loss, struggles, etc. We need to hear more of this from people we see on television when the world of social media can be so superficial.
Thank you!!! 🙏
I have grown up, evolved and have a few gray hairs right along with Maurice for the past 30 years (GH)! A convincing and amazing actor (and, those famous dimples!) However, this podcast “State of Mind” hits close to home! I am deeply grateful that Maurice has come forward relaying his journey in coping with and managing his mental health disorders! This podcast powerfully brings this debilitating disorder out of the shadows. I admire his courage to share his stories with all of us. He keeps it “real”! He has some amazing guests that also speak to their own Mental Health Disorders! His podcast is absolutely captivating!
So happy to have SOM on podcast! Now, I will always be able to catch every episode! Perfect while sitting in traffic! Thanks for updating SOM to podcasts, now I will never miss an episode! Love you Maurice! Thanks again & keep those episodes coming on the podcast!
Hi. This was a wonderful interview. It’s terrific that you, Maurice, has been talking about mental illness. I am sure it helps many people who can identify with that subject.
Michael Knight was very generous in opening up about what he has gone through. It shows that everyone is human, regardless of who you are.
State Of Mind is a great mental health podcast. I love the different perspectives and interviews that Maurice does on the show. It’s become a weekly habit of mine to listen to the latest episode. Keep up the great work!! Can’t wait to see what happens next.
It isn’t easy to discuss the topics that come up on this show which is why I appreciate it! Great job, Maurice! Much needed for all of us! Lots of gems
The one redeeming result of the Covid pandemic was that mental health came to the forefront after lurking in the shadows for so long. The anxiety and isolation that so many people experienced during the past two years is something that those with mental health issues suffer on and off throughout their lives. The stigma of an emotional disorder of the mind or a chemical imbalance in the brain kept people suffering in silence. We know that getting a diagnosis and getting “help” changes lives so often filled with self recrimination and shame.
Maurice Benard through open frank discussion with friends, colleagues, professionals gives the listener the opportunity to learn they are not alone and more importantly there is hope.
The freedom that comes with peace of mind cannot be overstated.
Looking forward listening to more State of Mind podcasts.
