This was one of my favorite podcasts and I just found it. I’ve heard some of the stories, but this podcast provided more information than what the media has ever provided. We need podcasts like this and I literally pray that it will come back around someday. Shout out to Bridget and Sophie for their work and honorably mention to Miles for being a great guest
This is an important podcast addressing serious issues. My only problem is that it often doesn’t go deep enough with investigations, and many anecdotes are delivered without a clear purpose, giving it the tired tone of rage-bait media. I’m still listening in hopes that it settles into a consistent theme and tone, because this is a huge problem that needs and deserves serious attention.
The only detractor is I think I’m supposed to do a shot of whiskey every time Bridget uses the term ‘bad actor.’ Other than that, this podcast is enlightening regarding the way the internet and online culture is not great for persons who are not straight, white, and Christian.
P.S. The one-star reviews are probably from the toxic sludge of the internet
I've only recently found this podcast, and I am so impressed with the reporting being done here. I try to stay so far away from culture news, but this host provides so much valuable context and insight.
Full of high dollar corporate sponsorship. Guests focus on using profanity to be edgy without providing substance. Privileged podcasters handed every advantage pretending to fight the system.
This podcast operates on the premise that insulting tweets aimed at black women are racist attacks while insulting tweets aimed at right wing figures (“tiny hands Trump!!!”) are totally acceptable and normal. Ironically, when a left wing figure like J K Rowling expresses a right wing viewpoint on a subject like the transgender issue, THAT’S when her twitter feed is full of angry left wing trolls tweeting insults. For this podcast to work you need to turn off half of your brain and pretend like insults don’t count if they come from the left.
(1 star reviewers clearly are missing the message and don't understand sarcasm) yall are so inspirational. Thank you for all you do! Love the show 🙌 💜✨
I agree with everything you say about black women being targeted and marginalized. May I add though, it is also white women. I think the black and white women need to stand together in order to address these problems. We really need each other. We need to stand up each for other for each other and support each other.Improvements are not going to happen for a segment of women. Improvements will only happen for all women if we stick together. I am not underestimating what you are saying in any way.
Creators assume that everyone owes them something. The internet is free, social media is free. Yet this podcast pushes the narrative that some “army of internet warriors and cyber police” needs to swoop in and destroy anyone who has any opposing idea. They are so lucky to live In the USA where the horrible oppression they bravely face everyday is white woman on twitter not giving them preferential treatment. Apparently being included and equality is no longer enough.
Throw a proverbial stone at this platform and you’ll most likely hit this type of podcast. Marginalized! Systemic! Institutional! And of course……RACISM!! Because everything is racism to people of this ilk. Without screaming racism, people like Bridgette would have nothing to say. Disgusting, race hustling garbage
I don’t disagree with the sentiment, hate speech online or any of this but Twitter isn’t the internet and it isn’t even anywhere near the largest social media platform. There are other similarly sized platforms that work entirely differently. “Society” doesn’t live on Twitter and live by the hashtags mentioned throughout with stories elitism that everyone should be on the daily outrage of Twitter.
She’s so analytical and insightful; she is also so much better than 95% of people who are on the right side of things in tat she consistently takes a fair view and talks out her perspective or potential presumptions so that you can really see the truth of the issue.
Weird that another reviewer wrote a one-star review because the show didn’t talk about a particular issue when there have only been two full episodes…only two topics covered in the two weeks it has been out. I would discard that nonsense. Also, that guy wrote something kinda red-flag-ish instead of writing “anti-semitism” and it felt very offensive. Like so much Xtisn evangelical “support” it comes dripping with disdain.
Anyway, the show is fantastic and everyone should listen.
This is great! Hope to see an episode or several on Reddit - it's outsized role in the evolution of online organization of harassment campaigns ("brigading") and the Ellen Pao saga in particular
There’s a time to call out race. There’s also a time to call out problems that need to just plain go away. Let’s imagine that we’re all one race, gender and economic class. Confusion and trolling would still be awful.
Media - who pays them, who owns them, where do their loyalties lie, what are their objectives (too often to uphold and further the crappy status quo). Thank you Ms Todd for pulling the covers on the crap!
Unfortunately, ignores the worst defamation campaign against the Jews and Israel in history. Plays to the progressive focus on only race, class and gender without even mention of Jew hatred. Look elsewhere for a fairer depiction of the bigotry from left and right.
I love Bridget Todd so was excited to hear this podcast on an important and under reported topic. It does not disappoint. Excited to continue this journey with Bridget and her guests.
I’ve been waiting for someone to tell this story with these intersections of our society for so long and I’m genuinely so excited to hear what you guys continue to put out. Stories and analysis about events like the ones you mentioned in this first episode are what the internet has been woefully lacking for decades, thanks for doing what you’re doing.
