As a first-time parent, I appreciate this podcast for providing detailed information on a wide range of pediatric topics. The host often delves into great detail, which is refreshing compared to the quick and superficial treatment that other media outlets give to medical reporting. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the podcast is the "research roundup" in which the host offers a critical discussion of recent research studies.
That being said, I must echo the comments of other reviewers and note that the host is clearly coming from a culturally/politically conservative background. Listeners would do well to separate his parenting advice from his medical advice (which, admittedly, can be a difficult task). I would argue that his bias isn't as extreme or distracting as many reviewers have suggested. If you are truly hungry for details about pediatric issues that might affect your kids, it's not that difficult to tolerate/ignore his opinions. (Plus, you can see many of the "hot button" issues from a mile away-- co-sleeping, breastfeeding, cry-it-out, health care reform, etc... just skip over those if you can't bear to hear an opposing viewpoint.) And though Dr. Mike can be excessively chatty about topics completely unrelated to parenting and pediatrics, there is more to learn from each episode than in any other parenting podcast I've sampled.
On the whole, I think the depth and breadth of the information outweighs the bias and idiosyncracies of the host. I am a vastly more informed parent for having listened.
