I love the episodes where she doesn’t have guests. Her guests are primarily people who are trying to promote themselves rather than focus on the title of the episode. At times she asks questions that as a listener, you would be interested in, but then they go on and talk about themselves again with no insight, just sharing their experience.
However, the episodes where there are no guests are very insightful. You can also find te information she has provided in her book.
The early episodes were much more informative, specifically the ones with no guests and just Vivian giving info. Increasingly each guest shares less info and just talks about whatever they’re selling or their brand. Now some of them are just long commercials for sweet greens or whatever.
One of the most consistent pieces of advice rich people in my life have given is to find a finance bestie; someone who works in finance and speaks the language fluently so I can familiarize myself with it. As I’m growing my income through my entrepreneurial journey, this podcast makes money a fun game instead of a tumultuous topic. I’m learning what systems, strategies, and rules work in my favor and which ones need reform. Vivian is a GEM for sharing her knowledge with us and connecting us to more experts that inspire and give so generously🤍
Previously I complained about Vivian promoting fast fashion brands and mentioned how Blogilates has pointed out how her designs have been stolen by these types of brands. Well this week I felt heard and seen!
I was very happily surprised when she had Cassey as a guest this week. I’ve loved her yoga mats from the start, read her book, downloaded her apps, and so forth. I’ve definitely been a popster. It was nice to see Vivian promoting a small business entrepreneur, not just Marshall’s.
I can say the Bala bangle weights are worth it, btw. I prefer them to resistance bands any day.
The rest is my prior comment:
There are some tools I never would have guessed we’re out there! If you ever do a mortgage episode, I think it would be valuable to break down the total costs of the different types (doctor loans, FHA, standard 30 yr, and 15 yr) along with how the costs vary with credit scores. Many people fixate on buying a home without realizing all the interest and fees and these topics need to be discussed by an expert that can make things simple. Also, total costs, not just monthly.
I’m 62, always been interested in money and finance - THIS PODCAST IS SO SMART SO GOOD - listen to this!!!! I’ve done quite well with my finances, Vivian has got it going on. I tell my kids to listen!!!!
Thanks Vivian and team for the informative content every episode! I love hearing all of the real life experiences that relate to the advice your sharing and I am always inspired by the stories of people who went from zero to boss in real time. This podcast really helps me see that my money goals are attainable and not just a far fetched dream. Please keep the “things I wish I did in my twenties” content coming !
I cannot, I’m deleting my recent download and unsubscribing. The Keltie Knight episode is a HUGE Marshall’s ad with no money advice at all. They work it into the conversation so much that it’s annoying, then towards the end they reveal they’re both sponsored by Marshall’s and involved in some kind of event hosted by them. What a waste of an episode and my time, seriously. I’m disappointed that I trusted My Rich BFF to give me valuable information, yet she stole my time by misleading me on what this episode would be about and how it could enhance my life. Vivian, you lost me with this one, there was no gain to your listeners here.
I loved all the clips I was able to see on Pinterest, as I don’t have any other social media platforms. When Vivian spoke about her podcast, I immediately started listening and do so every week!
I love your show and I have learned so much from it! I’m in my 30s and earn about 60k a year. I’ve wanted to start a Roth IRA but I don’t know where to start, how much to put it in or, when i can use it. Also, I hear you mentioning index funds? Does that work together with the Roth IRA? I am so confused! I listen to your episodes when I head to work and I feel it’s such a good use of my time. Thank you for what you do!!
This podcast is essentially an ad for marshall’s. Also, the fact that she took a shein ad is wild to me and makes me feel like $$$ is all that matters for her ads it’s such an awful company.
I know Vivian’s position on finances is not ultra frugality but the episodes have turned into a Marshall’s ad. Just seems counter intuitive to advertise the sort of non essential empty spending that you do at a Marshall’s or TJ Maxx.
Your content is relevant to the world we live in today and also so realistic. I would love to hear your thoughts on current inflation and how middle class can prepare better (also corporate annual reviews might be a bit disappointing this year). Anyway, I look forward to listening to your podcast every week!
I am not the typical demographic for My Rich BFF (I’m in my 50’s) but I do have teenagers and I feel that Vivian’s style and how she explains the nuisances of all things financial is just so relatable and clear to so many young people. After almost every episode, I find myself thinking… “man I wish more than anything I had someone like Vivian to explain the details of money when I was starting out”
I listen to every single episode each week. Love everything except maybe this latest one (with Lindsey whatshername 🙄). That girl was hard to listen to. She also sounded drunk. Or maybe depressed. Not sure. But anyway, Viv is GREAT and so are her past guests.
At first I was skipping a lot of episodes because I thought the titles didn’t relate to me, but the more I listened the more I craved because she’s so entertaining. I went back and listened to the ones I skipped and they all had good info too! I’ve already shared a few episodes with my 20-something friends hoping to give them a leg up in the future. So far my favorite has been the one about BILT which I don’t need because I’m already happy in my mortgage, but the story of the company was jaw dropping. Keep it up Vivienne!
This podcast is a great very clear guide on finance without any obnoxious judgment or incessant product pushing. The episode with Alex V. is the most straightforward finance guidance I’ve heard to date without any hidden product agenda.
Extremely informative and helpful for those seeking anything with finances!!
In my 30s and I don’t think I would’ve appreciated this podcast as much in my 20s.
Commercials come with the territory for free money tips. Not mad about the commercials like others have previously commented.
I feel like this show has so much potential but she talks a lot about herself... which to a certain degree I get but she could cut out so much of her personal storytelling and it would add more to the show. One episode she talks 75% of her personal story on going to the hospital it took away from the actual point of the episode. I'm here to listen to information not your life story.
I love the topics and info that Vivian covers but it's hard to follow along when she talks so fast. I'm also not a fan of all of the ads, especially when most of the episodes are 20-30mins long. At least they're skippable 🤷🏻♀️
I appreciate the guests you bring on the show. I just listened to your new episode with V Spehar, I absolutely loved it! I enjoyed listening to her points of view, where she started and what she's doing. Can you add your guests socials in the show notes? I immediately started following her. Loved this one!
Please slow down ! You talk so fast I can’t even comprehend the information before you’re moving on to something else that being said great information. Thanks.
I highly recommend this podcast if you identify as someone who wants to learn more about financial topics in a fun and story telling way. I will be honest I have typically avoided anything having to do with finances because it makes me anxious. This podcast has helped me to talk more about it and feel less anxious! Vivian is not only so knowledgeable she breaks down complex topics into ways that anyone can understand!
I’ve listened to a lot of other financial podcasts and thought “what could this one possibly add?” And the answer is SO MUCH. There is so much in this podcast that I haven’t heard before. I learn something new in every episode! Thank you so much for doing this podcast Vivian!!
I love that Vivian now has podcasts, she’s always straight to the point and she’s so personable. I do wish they were longer episodes as I drive one hour to work every morning.
Just caught up to the rent episode. I absolutely love this podcast and binged all the episodes in the last week or so. Also introduced this to my husband (who also got hooked) and now instead of background music, we tune in to Networth and Chill on our car rides now! So much more engaging and prompts us for more deep conversations. Keep it up YRBFF! 🥰
Some content has been great. The last episode with the points guy was informative until…the elitism of not caring about the locals in a place you are moving to.
Vivian is absolutely amazing. She breaks everything down in a way that allows folks to realize that money isn’t scary, it’s merely a tool. A tool most of us have complicated, antiquated, and false ideas around. Vivian has taught me so much and her podcast is fantastic for diving into ideas and subjects that you want to learn about!
I love this podcast- it’s so refreshing to hear from a woman in this space. She is able to make the sometimes boring topic of finances relevant and interesting to young people especially. She is very smart and just has a great vibe!
I really truly love how this show is structured each week (one longer- 40ish minutes, one shorter- 20ish minutes) and you get a guest on the longer episodes! She gives quality, pointed, direct information on the shorter episodes about all different topics that relate to everyone- inflation, medical bills, when to leave a job… it’s just all around excellent and well planned!
I’m a gen x’er. I enjoy gaining insight into younger gen’s. Of course our views are very similar. I agree on most everything you educate us on. Of course I’m not starting out and have my retirement in full force. But I do love following you on Pinterest and listening here. You teach excellent life information. Adding on the Lisa Ling episode! Oh my goodness! So good. I remember her from channel one!! She was someone my age on tv across America.
The editing is terrible and the ads are nonstop. You seriously get like 3 ad breaks in the middle of each episode, which is WILD for episodes this short. Plus, the editor removes every breath Vivian takes when she’s talking, so you just end up with an onslaught of Vivian talking nonstop, with no silence or pauses or breaks anywhere. It’s edited like a really choppy YouTube video. This kind of editing MIGHT work for some video, but in audio, it’s extremely distracting at best and simply hard to listen to at worst. If you like Vivian as a personality and you don’t listen to any good podcasts, then you might be OK with this show. But the production is seriously bad. Stick to her other media endeavors. This podcast is just a cash grab and it is definitely benefitting her more than it’s benefitting her listeners.
I love Vivian!!!!!!! She’s great at explaining everything I need to know about financial literacy. She’s down to earth, super kind, and so incredibly smart. I love her perspective and I love that she wants to all of us to have the opportunity to build wealth. I have a lot of financial anxiety and listening to her makes me feel like these things are actually within reach for me.
Viv, please make more podcasts!! I look forward to your new episodes each week and wish for you to continue! Thanks for not only sharing financial literacy but giving a space to share about being an Asian American. It comforts me that I am able to resonate with others like me.
