I was in high school in 88. This podcast brought me back to that time and the music and artists that I loved. It is definitely worth a listen. I hope that Will continues this series…
You better take me back to my JHS/ HS days! Love this podcast and all of the guests thus far. What a time to be alive. I enjoy hearing about it from ppl who were there in the midst of all the action. And most of my favs have been featured, so all the stars to all of you on every level of production. 🫶🏾
Loved every second of this!! To see the doors that so many people opened makes you wish you were there during that time to see it. Excellent story telling!!
Excellent! I’m a fan first and will stand tall with my favorites. I started on fb, laughing at Jaden’s story and quickly switched to the podcast. We are so spoiled with visuals. One thing I know, when you tell a story without visuals, you must paint pictures with articulable details , tones and inflections! You successfully created a thirst for more and now I m hooked. Rpisode 2, here I come!
It’s sometimes hard to write reviews because the minute you start trying to qualify something with words, it reduces its magnificence. So, I’ll simply say, this show is brilliant. Reliving the early years of hip hop through this podcast has been such a pleasure! And Will! Phenomenal.
Will! You are the best, most humble, talented, authentic person, I think in this industry. You never forget where you came from. As a Jamaican, I am glad that hip hop also gave flowers to DJ Kool Herc, for setting the ear worm to kick start hip hop from Jamaican “ride di mic” style. This brings back ALL the memories and this is what we need right now. As we say in Jamaica “big up yourself”, don’t go changing just to please…
This is my parent’s era of hip-hop, but I love all of the stories these artists share about their hip-hop origin stories. The bonus is all of the music I’ve added to my own collection after listening to these episodes. If you love hip-hip history, you’re going to love this podcast. I hope they add a video element with the next season.
I was in sixth grade and saved up mowing money to buy “He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper” cassette. Got a JVC boombox in 90’ and rebought the CD. In Jr High I was the kid everyone was asking to make a mixtape. I fell in love with Hip Hop the moment I heard “Parents Just Don’t Understand “ and Nightmare on my Street”, “I can beat Mike Tyson”.
Love this Podcast, brings a smile to my face listening to Jazzy and Will relive the history of Hip Hop!
I graduated high school in 1985, and remember distinctly the rise of hip hop, and how it spoke to me. This first episode was wonderful, and I can’t wait to hear the rest. Congratulations going out to Will Smith and all those involved in the making of this podcast. I have a feeling this will be a great series.
So happy I was born during the real HIP HOP era!!! Video Music Box was life along with peanut butter & jelly along with chocolate milk(Nesquik mix only)
Love a podcast that features one of the BEST eras of music, if not THE best! Music brings people together and boy do we need more of that. Thank you 🙏🏽 and 🥂✨ - Kris
