Listening to Dr.Khan & Nurse Abeerah’s interview was difficult, yet therapeutic. As a former medical mission nurse who went to Gaza 5 months ago, hearing Abeerah’s stories was hard. Knowing the nightmare of a situation that I witnessed 5 months ago is still happening, breaks my heart even more than it already is. Maybe misery does love company. Hearing Abeerah speak about what she witnessed confirms that I was not being dramatic. I was not dreaming. It confirms the God awful truth and horror of knowing that we actually DID live through a genocide! You read about genocides in the past but you never think that you’ll live through one, so it’s wild and hard to digest that Abeerah and I actually lived through it, yet it gave me comfort in knowing that I can possibly trauma bond with someone who lived through it as well. I’m still processing what I lived through, so I’m hoping I can connect with Nurse Abeerah so we can work through this healing process together. Thank you for sharing this podcast. I hope more people hear it and advocate for an end to the genocide in Gaza. 😔
I love this podcast! I’ve been listening since my girl Chey joined as a host and the episodes are so insightful! I especially love the latest episode regarding black maternal health. Bringing awareness to issues like this are so important! Thank you all!
This episode was excellent. Kudos to Dr. Loarte Rodriguez for celebrating Black male nurse excellence during Black history month. These four accomplished, highly skilled nurses are brilliant and they dropped some gems. I wish all nursing students get a chance to listen to this panel speak about their lived experience, their nursing journeys and their clinical practice. I really appreciate all the insights into demonstrating respect and reverence for them as men. Listen and share!
This episode was super informative while staying relatable and fun. I loved how open and transparent Nalina and Natalia were on their experiences. This is great insight, will definitely tune in again!
It's often touched on about nurse burnout but actually addressing the cause has been an issue. Thank you for the insight Shenell, very important information your provided
Thank you for your input on this topic. I am a white female nurse and I want to help bridge the differences to help patients in the best way possible. I love that the speakers are highly educated professionals who bring their expertise to the table. Unless I hear these conversations I don’t know the extent of issues related to treatment of diverse nursing professionals. I value all my colleagues opinions and terrific work ethic but I work in a very diverse environment so people are used to accepting all types of professionals on the healthcare team. How do we encourage this beyond the diverse environment? How to we educate people and patients? Thank you speakers and nurse.org for arranging such a timely topic!
I like how Shenell takes the time to correlate how a natural passion for helping people through nursing can turn into burnout. Shenell doesn’t hesitate to mention PTSD from the extreme cases of COVID-19 between 2020-2021 as a contributing factor that exacerbated mental trauma in an already strained industry.
Not only does she talk about burnout, she provides clear guidance to relieve stress and improve your mental and physical health to work through the challenges of burnout.
I look forward to hearing more about mental health care from this podcast.
Great job and very informative! I loved the concept of using the clinical judgment/nursing process model to assist in self care in preventing burnout. 💜💜
Great information and so relevant to the entire healthcare field! Self care is so important and we tend to just keep going even when we know something is not right.
Podcast talks on such a relatable and realistic level. Touches upon every day cycles while being a nurse. Truly defines what burnout is and also provides the strength to address it and overcome it. Truly a needed podcast for ALL types of nurses in this now days nursing career.
I just started listening to podcasts and I stumbled upon this gem and listened to nurse Shenell Thompkins talking about nurse burnout. It’s refreshing to hear another nurse talk about their experience with burnout and the steps to take to work through it. I know that “I know the steps” but hearing it from someone on the frontlines makes it feel more real or believable that we know the steps we just have to apply them. Excited to listen to more podcasts.
The podcast discussing nurse burnout and as very helpful and gave great tips. I liked the tip of when you take your lunch break, to mentally take a break from thinking about your patients. Also, being reminded of self care and creating healthy boundaries is beneficial.
This episode was very informative! I enjoyed listening to all the different perspectives on nursing and their personal journeys. Very inspiring and insightful!! ❤️❤️
This episode was hands down the best. I needed to hear all of this and Lily Madelyn has such a way of saying things that makes me hang on every word and her words resonate so much. More episodes with her please!
Every nurse has their own story and not all nurses have the same experience. This diverse cast of nurses gives us the opportunity to learn about countless nursing topics, ranging from the uncomfortable to the light hearted. They’re incredibly knowledgeable & I’m looking forward to more episodes from these fabulous nurses!
Super excited to listen to this new podcast. I enjoy having an insightful and interesting podcast to listen to while I commute. This first episode was relative to my career and I am excited to see what else is next to come. I recommend this podcast for my fellow nurses out there.
Bringing attention to human trafficking is so very important. We, as nurses, are in a special role where we can see signs and symptoms of this abuse and have the ability to safely intervene.
Thank you for making an episode about this providing education about this topic in general and how we can help.
Thank you for what you do for your patients!
I am always looking for a new podcast and love listening to other nurses share their experiences! Nice to know you are in it together and can exchange ideas!
As a non-nurse whose partner is a nurse, I have found this podcast educational and engaging across a number of new topics. I look forward to learning more from future hosts!
Leah Helmbrecht’s episode about human trafficking is full of important facts, myth-busting, and real life advice on how you/your healthcare system can identify and help victims of human trafficking. I would love to hear another episode with Leah!
I love the new format and I’m excited to hear from so many new nurses this season. I learned a lot from the first episode about the nurse’s role in identifying and combating human trafficking - what amazing and important work nurses do. Thank you!
I love that Nurse.org not only ran a talent show to select the hosts of this podcast, but also ran an online vote for the nursing community to CHOOSE the hosts who they want to hear from on the podcast. This is truly a podcast for, and by nurses. I saw on nurse.org/podcast the lineup of hosts and their episode titles and will be listening to all the episodes. The hosts are very diverse and come with difference viewpoints and experience.
