The Women’s Game is an excellent soccer podcast. Sam is an awesome host that brings previous first-hand experience as well as great commentary to every episode. I think the variety of guests have been excellent. Sam mixes up current and former US national team players as well as familiar “foes” from other countries. My only critique/suggestion is more Becky Sauerbrunn!
I love the tactical insights to the game sprinkled with wonderful takes on life in the metaphor of sport. Becky and Sam together are perfect. They are both thoughtful and observant people on and off the field! Enjoying this!!!
This podcast is golden. I learn so much about soccer, team play & teammates, and get to laugh at the same time. Sam is a great interviewer & is amazingly charming. I don't have friends who follow the USWNT the way I do so The Women’s Game provides me with pals & teachers & soccer love!
My first podcast review ever: Having Sammy Bananas back on my feed has improved my wellbeing, and now even more than before!! It’s so great that, while we lost the Tower of Power from the pitch painfully early, The Women’s Game we get more Sam laughs and stories and analysis behind the game! With Lynn and Becky to boot, please and thank you!!
I think it is such a common (but silly) expectation that journalists/the media shouldn’t be too close to the story or else they’re biased and can’t be trusted. I think Sam’s investment and closeness to the players she interviews and the stories she reports are make this podcast so so good. Her empathy and willingness to follow each player’s lead is just so so important. So frequently in sports we forget players are human first. I find it incredibly important when Sam gives a player an out on a question or the chance to change the subject during an interview. While we’re invested in a story as fans, we’re not entitled to the details. Love love love this podcast and Sam!!!
I love this podcast & have long been a fan of Sam Mewis, both as a player & a person. Thrilled she has this platform to continue spreading her insights, humor & humble wisdom. These conversations are beneficial beyond sport. She & Lynn Williams are a delight together. Just finished the Becky Sauerbrunn episode; it was moving and informative. Keep up the good work!
Long time listener, first time reviewer. I felt compelled to thank Ashley Sanchez for being so vulnerable about her struggles at and since the WC, and for Sam’s ability to navigate a sensitive conversation with such empathy. Such an honest and important discussion. Thanks for shedding light on the less illuminated experiences of athletes.
Sam Mewis is quite literally the best commentator on all things women’s football. She speaks with not only such intelligence and insight, but compassion for players and teams around the world, showing that you can critique and support at the same time with a level of nuance that is often lacking. I truly feel like Sam and the entire Women’s Game team along with Good Vibes FC are setting the (cross) bar for how women’s football should be covered (sorry for the terrible pun.) Funfetti cake for all!
Good to have to context of why much of Daniëlle's English speech has an Aussie accent. I appreciate how Sam makes guests feel comfortable. Becky is💥as a podcaster! I can't wait to cast my vote for Saeurbrun/Girma in 2036 when Naomi is old enough to run
Sam’s enthusiasm towards soccer, her friends, guests and just life in general is so contagious! Absolutely love getting insight to women’s soccer and learning so much more about soccer world wide and hearing from players we don’t have as much access to here in America. Thank you for making this! Keep it coming!
Great interviews and knowledge of women’s soccer. I played soccer for many years and feel like I’m just now really understanding the sport on a deeper level. I love the pod! It’s grown my love for women’s soccer, Go Bats!
Sam’s keen enthusiasm for all things soccer makes this podcast an essential listen for everyone who wants more in-depth insight into the players, coaches, and intricacies of the world of women’s football. Her emotional intelligence and active listening skills make every interview she conducts such a pleasurable listening experience. Sam’s optimism and genuine curiosity about people comes across no matter who she is talking to, and she asks thought-provoking questions that open up such interesting answers from the people she interviews. I love her rapport with Lynn and Becky, they make a great team together. Keep up the excellent work!
Listening to the podcast is one of the best parts of my week. I love the insider perspective Sam provides. Her insight, knowledge, humor, and love of the game shine through in every episode. And the friendship between her and Lynn and Becky is so refreshing. If we can’t have Sam suited up for the USA, I’m glad we get her weekly here. Keep it up!
Absolutely love all podcasts on the Women’s Game channel! Friendlies- love getting to know all the players globally and their stories. Banter between Lynn, Becky and Sam shows real friendship that you only get in team sports. As a former high school player who’s picked up playing on a local women’s team in my 40s, I love hearing about tactical strategies and how the game has changed over the years. Sam’s positivity is so warm… also cannot beat when Rog joins any of the conversations. He’s so funny! This is just pure good in the world !
I love everything about this podcast. Sam has such a warm and fun style but is also so knowledgeable. I had never heard of MIB before but love when Roger comes on. Keep it up!
Absolutely love this, Sam is Fantastic interviewing players. I appreciate Sam, Lynn and Becky’s commentary and analysis of games and teams. This podcast brings joy every single week!
Thank you! I so much enjoyed and appreciated your detailed discussion of marking, bumps and zone defense. When fans know more we can really get into the plays and value the players actions. It can be frustrating to watch a game with few goals, but when we can also appreciate the defense it makes for a better game. Love your show.
This podcast is a dream come true! Sam, Becky and Lynn are an awesome host team. So happy to see Sam at the helm, it seems like she’s been at it for years. I love that they bring news and interviewees from around the globe to give the full perspective of the women’s game. Keep the good vibes coming.
Thorns fan here. It’s okay that Sam can’t find it in her heart to want good things for Portland. We understand. That 4-3 Flash overtime win at Providence Park in 2016 still hurts.
And yet, this podcast is amazing. Sam and Lynn are great. Sam and Becky are great. Sam and Raj, they’re okay.
The interview with Michele Alozie is really top notch, to hear her story of going from undrafted to Kazakhstan to trying out for Dash and earning a spot for Nigeria AND working on childhood cancer. And integrating her parents’ culture with being American. So great.
Thank you, Sam.
I love the vibes of the shows coming out of The Women’s Game. Sam is a great interviewer, but also is a great storyteller herself and isn’t afraid to talk on difficult subjects. I especially love the player interviews that have been on the show, and getting people from different leagues, it’s been great. I’m super stoked Becky & Lynn have been able to join and the vibes all around are just immaculate.
and loving the expert game commentary from all three of them, I always learn new stuff when I listen.
I’m so excited to have a podcast focused on women’s soccer. I love getting the amazing players insight and hearing in depth discussion on women’s soccer.
I love the knowledge and energy Sam & guests have for this sport. I get to laugh while I learn about soccer and how complex being a professional athlete is. I look forward to every Tuesday & Thursday!
Sam does such great interviews! I love hearing players perspectives. Whether still playing or retired. Sam, Lynn and Becky together! Amazing. Sam really does a great job asking really hard and interesting questions. Just love this podcast! It’s my favorite podcast into the minds of women in sports!
I watch soccer. I talk to my friends about soccer. And when that’s still not enough to feed my soul, I listen to Sam Mewis talk to her friends about soccer. I absolutely adore The Women’s Game and can’t get enough of their uplifting, thought-provoking, and joyful content. It really celebrates the players who make the sport great. Sam hits a perfect balance of accessibility for those new to the game and deep dives for longtime fans. I’m grateful for a chance to listen into such deep and inspiring conversations. (And Sam, if you read this, please pick a breakfast cereal for every NWSL team on Good Vibes FC someday!)
This podcast made me a better women’s soccer fan. The one-on-one interviews help me to appreciate individual players even more than I already did. And the weekly round up episode gives me a real sense of what’s going on around the NWSL and international soccer world. I love it. It’s a lot of fun!
Thank you, Sam! Your Women’s Game and Good Vibes podcasts are a much needed and refreshing contribution to the women’s soccer movement. You bring a knowledgeable, sincere, and easy-going approach. Love who you are and what you’re bring to all us soccer fans!
Absolutely loving the good vibes of this podcast. The weekly show with Lynn and Becky is awesome and it’s great getting to know players through the weekly interviews!
Thank you, Sam, for your upbeat, insightful, warm and hilarious commentary. I esp enjoyed the Jess Fishlock Best XI b/c of her international scope & familiarity . Are you familiar w the podcast from the UK called Up Front re womens soccer in England? Those women remind me of you and Lynn Williams- hilarious AND informative . Maybe you could do an interview with the hosts of UpFront sometime for a British perspective .
Or how bout this : get a Spanish-speaking translator and interview Esther of Gotham FC - your first bilingual episode of Friendlies ?!
As a Snacks podcast fan and and ALL IN Women’s Sports fan, I am loving this new podcast. I’m so happy I didn’t have to give up my Lynn Williams/Sam Messi fun banter and inside perspective of women’s futbol. What a huge free agency addition of Becky Sauerbrun!! She brings a whole new twist and solid leadership to this already dynamic team! Keep it coming! I love it!
Sammy we certainly miss you on the field! But we surely going to enjoy this new journey! Love the show, please continue killing it!
Also please get a Mac, chromebook is not a real computer:)
I love so much that Sam decided to stay in the podcast business. With her far too soon retirement, her choice to still share her life and love of soccer with us is truly a blessing. Her episodes are so fun to listen to and she gets the details from guest that you don’t always get to hear in other interviews. I’m so pumped for Lynn’s return and the addition of Becky! Thank you Sam!!
