This podcast is well done. It starts with the Olympic bombing and then the story really builds in a way I didn’t see coming. I appreciate so much the intricacy of the storytelling and the way it all waves together.
This randomly came on today, due to me already being a tenderfoot plus subscriber for other pods. I was gardening and I was hooked. I literally binged this entire series and the bonus episodes in one day. I enjoyed it so much that I have told others about it.
I appreciate the raw vulnerability the host shared on this podcast and others shared.
I think this podcast has everything I could want. Compelling narrative and excellent story telling. I like the personal connection and that it was paired with historical and
political analysis and interviews. I don’t understand the people who say they liked it until political discussion. This story would not have been complete if the politics weren’t included. It’s a significant part of the story and even every day life. Regardless of whether some people believe that. I already think highly of Tenderfoot productions, and I’ll definitely be looking out for Cole’s future projects!
Lots of these reviews clearly come from an ideological place. This is really a top-notch podcast in terms of writing and production - well worth a listen. I was in Atlanta in 1996 and didn’t know almost any of this
Could of been a five star podcast until he inserted his politics. Segregation is not a conservative view so to say those that believe that are Right Extremist is simply a lie. They are just extremist. Religious right is also a new and ludicrous term. So does that imply unreligious left? Another left vs right hate stirring political propaganda podcast.
The story is good. Narration, fine. Having a nice quiet evening listening to podcasts before falling asleep… But then a LOUD ad comes on with that super obnoxious HYPER BABBLE OUTRO! Omg. Deducting 1 Star.
don’t be fooled - these negative interviews come from an ideological place. this series is well produced, thoughtfully developed, smartly narrated, and built on respectful, balanced interviews. quality journalism that has riled some corners of the far right.
The same thing as every other slickly packaged “true crime” pod. A crime that’s been documented in tons of different ways over the last 25 years. Very little meat on the bone of every episode. A bunch of repetitive interviews. Lots of ad interruptions. Lots of music and slow narration that waters down each episode. A single tight episode of “American Justice” contains more information than this entire series.
I don’t want to give away anything because part of the pleasure of this pod is the layers of the story…but I DO want to say: this is SO relevant to what we’re living through today, in terms of social and cultural politics. The way these guys present the history here and the very personal way they tell the story of what happened…it’s so moving. I’ve seen some negative reviews here shouting “propaganda” and other angry things—these loud voices reinforce how NECESSARY it is that we all listen to this podcast!! I think these people are angry because the pod so diligently and responsibly and thoroughly exposes the link between certain right wing Christian ideologies and extremists/terrorists. It’s really important listening!!!
Started off great…. Got way too politically motivated from the host. Picking and choosing guests to align with their ideology (classic). Choosing the most extreme “dumb redneck”, kind of people to speak for Rudolph and then choosing people that align with his view to speak against him. Bringing Donald Trump into this is just such an extreme push, I mean are you kidding? This guy was a solo bomber, who committed terrible acts without a doubt. By all accounts was a loner, and on top of that never voted and lived off the grid. So again, comparing Trump to Eric Rudolph is just so absurd that I cannot support this or recommend this podcast. Could have been great, as the first few episodes were, but a politically aligned host just crushed that. On top of that I am very familiar with this area, and people of this area tend to be hardworking people, mostly veterans, that would give the shirt off their back to help anyone. They chose to live in that area to stay away from people exactly like the host.
This story is personal for me. They searched my elementary school after his truck was found - I went to high school in Murphy, NC (avoiding a spoiler here) - I was born/raised in the area where the bomber was from. Cole’s personal connection to this story is enthralling. The story telling and production is next level. The poor reviews are people hurt by opinions that don’t align with their own - they need to take a long hard look in the mirror if they believe a one star review is the proper way to handle that. There is no question that extremism breeds hate and this is a story of that. This is an expertly done podcast & is well balanced in its perspective.
the information was really good, gripping story and extremely well told… until it devolved into blaming President Trump and the Bible for the evils that Rudolph committed. focusing heavily on the right wing extremism and not acknowledging the leftist extremism is blatant misinformation.
The story is good as are the interviews of those involved. I remember the events around the bombings well and it was a good trip down memory lane. But as the episodes go on, so do the skewed views and obvious pro-liberal stances.
The part I found the most laughable was the host talking about how those on the right are the segregationist and racist while playing a clip of super segregationist and Democrat George Wallace playing in the background.
It would’ve been better if they left out politics (of either side) and stuck to the facts instead of expressing opinions as facts.
This was such an amazing podcast but episode 8 is not worth a listen. I know Cole most likely doesn’t believe that all Christians want to blow up abortion clinics. But the last episode feels like it implies that in some areas. Episodes 1-7 are the story and 8 is Cole’s opinion. Which is just fine, everyone has the right to share their opinion but I also have the right to disagree.
I was with you until episode 8 when you started blaming republicans and trying to link Jan 6th to this event. I’m here for true crime, not politics. 👎🏻
Everything started off well, and then I started noticing things that didn’t sound 100% correct. So I started looking at other sources and found numerous inconsistencies from what they are stating against actual fact. I think this is more opinion based in fact-based and also seems to be skewed in one direction politically.
I was fully prepared to give a poor rating. Cole continued to give a monster who killed, maimed and terrorized credit for his existence. However, in the epilogue episode he finally saw the light, and gave the credit to his mother for his life. He owes nothing to Rudolph. It is his mother and the folks that loved and supported the two of them that are the reason he is here. The first few episodes come off a bit like anti choice propaganda because he is so convinced Rudolph’s actions “saved” his life. I hope that he can find a way to separate himself from Rudolph moving forward. That monster only wanted to take people’s choices to live as they wanted. He didn’t give anything.
Show was compelling and well produced. The interviews were among the best in any podcast serial.
Podcast does have good info on the case against Rudolph but it goes off the rails when the host blames Trump and people that believe in the Bible . He doesn’t bring up any of the Liberal bombings throughout the 60’s , 70’s or the shooting of Republican softball team members . Not bringing up the fact that there’s extremist on the Left and the Right is just insane and proves that the Liberal agenda is truly an evil and a cancer on society.
This podcast makes you think. It’s terrifying, thought provoking, and extremely informative. Ignore the extremists in the reviews…. The points and viewpoints of this podcast are absolutely worth listening to.
For those who have given this a 1 star review for being anti-Christian and anti far right, it doesn’t take this show to point out the damage and harm they’ve done. Nor does this show go out of the way to shame them, in fact it doesn’t. This show is simply documenting the bombings that happened and how it affected the people who were interviewed and how their lives were changed. Anyone claiming this is anti right wing Christian is probably feeling some guilt and shame when having to be faced with hearing the realities of what their religious and political convictions have done.
I was 16 when the bombing at the Olympics happened and remember us following this in my high school classes. I forgot about how long the the search was, being in my early twenties I had other things on my mind. Two thumbs up!!
This podcast was well written and produced. However it is very much anti Christian and anti conservative.
Very political; overview “Christians are destroying America.”
I couldn’t stop listening and researching old media coverage. I think people missed the point of episode 8. Seeing people’s reaction in the comment section validates the comment that religious groups use their views and play the victim if you don’t agree. What’s happening now in our political world rooted in the 70’s. Religion shouldn’t be an agenda in politics. Live your life and let others live their lives. So much wasted time, energy, hate, and violence towards others that don’t believe in another’s beliefs is sick and weird.
The first 7 episodes were pretty interesting, but in the 8th episode they basically bashed anyone who is right of center. If you’re against abortion apparently you’re just like the guy who bombed the Olympics. Skip if you don’t want to support people who hate you.
The political one sided opinions took over. The subject of this podcast is in the past. Why are current events being brought into it. If your going to bring current topics and events both sides are guilty of the same rhetoric.
I was a huge fan of Tenderfoot but Episode 8 is making me delete from my library. Just because someone believes in God and is against abortion doesn’t make them Far Right extremist. You made a huge mistake making this podcast political.
This podcast started out so good and so interesting. There were a few moments I didn’t agree with the opinions, but overall, well thought out an interesting. Then I got to episode eight where the podcasts are decides Christians are horrible people and they’re all extremists. He goes on to say that most Christians, who are pro-life did not think that Rovers was horrible, but it was a stupid tax law not true. The killing of unborn babies is always horrible and anybody who says they are not humans is ignoring science and the truth. I think the worst part though was listening to the montage of all the horrible things that people have done to other people and them all being attributed to Christians basically when I’m pretty sure, half of those were radical left people.
This podcast started great. I grew up in the Atlanta area and attended the 96 Olympics. I was interested in knowing more about this story. But then it took a far left turn and started demonizing the right and religious Americans. Steer clear of this liberal propaganda.
Started off really well done and then as most podcasts it turns very political and so obviously done by liberals who hate republicans and conservatives.
Expertly crafted podcast. Did a great job connecting all the dots, and weaving an intricate story with beautiful language and writing. Really enjoyed it. Especially the part where the bombings were connected to a larger, incredibly dangerous, far right militant conservative “Christian” movement in the USA. History repeats itself, and we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past if we do not learn from them.
