My favorite football podcast, but don’t see the need to go explicit. Please clean up the language for all of us fans that don’t want to be bombarded. That would be a true 5 star operation!
I was searching for ATL as the football season started and suddenly saw it was no more! But then I quickly and expertly searched for Dan Hanzus’ and thankfully found HTC! Absolutely wonderful continuation of the old podcast and I listen every single week thanks guys!
I’m not even sure these guys even watch football, the analysis they give is the same level of depth and accuracy as the dude at the bar 10 drinks deep. 90% of the airtime is really cringe jokes anyway.
I was saddened at the unceremonious cutting of ATN . I am starting to listen to the rebranded pod and am enjoying it again as part of my routine. Apples Podcast App states that your show is “explicit” which I think minimizes Mark’s metaphorical, and rambling prose digressions.
While I miss some of the ATN characters, the Heed the Call Sunday recap narrative storylines have given Marc and Dan the vehicle to let their delightful whimsy run free. Chuckling for two hours every week. Shoutout to Gravedigger and Orr for bringing it all together.
I was really interested to hear what the show was going to be and boy did it live up to expectations. Of course, my expectations were sadness and lots of it.
Dan, was more Marc ever the plan? He was always my dead best friend's favorite player. Tool a fast shore, swing with a gassy chick.
Marc's fluency disordered malaprops and cluttered mixed metaphors betray the rewriting of a personal history that included wanting somehow to be Bob Costas? Marc always seems like he took the job not knowing he'd be asked to speak out loud or be on camera.
I thought Dan would someday wind up on GMA, or on the Jackie Gleason Show. The Big Snoozer could do anything, but could closed the door on did 5 years ago. Sorry I annoyed you with my friendship. The floor is the ceiling.
We all know that the NFL Network will not exist in a few years (will it even make it to 2025?) so I'm glad these two have made it out alive but it's bittersweet, a shallow victory, a pyrrhic prior.
Even though this change was not their choice, it took me a couple of weeks to get used to the new format, but HTC has continued to get better and better, and the things that made ATN special have been allowed to flourish even beyond where they were under the management of the NFL. This show has once again become a favorite of mine and I’m so glad to have Dan, Marc, and Justin back in my podcast life and free to be their best entertaining selves.
Been listening since the beginning of ATN, so glad they were able to revive the show. Solid NFL analysis with a whole lot of laughs along the way. Dan is an amazing host, Marc’s frequent trips to the fantasy realm, Graver’s drops and witty remarks, and excellent guests make this show everything I want in an NFL podcast I can listen to year round
Nothing against the old show, but I love the new rebrand. You can tell the boys have some freedom now and it’s refreshing to hear. They play the hits while highlighting new voices more frequently (Justin, Connor)
Didn’t want to admit to myself I liked the show in its previous iteration and would appreciate other shows that are more serious and just the information I want without the crazy bits and personality. I gave Dan and Marc a shot and ran them parallel with a few other shows and……I have to admit these guys win out. They get the key points of what’s going on with just enough levity to remind you that it’s absolutely crazy that we put so much time and effort in to understanding this sport. Jourdan and dugar are an incredible addition and really put me over the edge in to settling on this being the only nfl pod imma use going forward
*Update - I’m back to being a little sad. I really don’t care for the hosts from the Atlantic on the Thursday show. Jourdan rambles and I find myself tuning out. The guy has a soft spoken voice and does not get me excited about the upcoming games at all. I really hope you will try out some other co-hosts for the Thurs show bc of course I still love Dan and Marc to distraction*

I am a wife of a former college football player, the mom of a football player, and I married into a family that revolves around football Sept to Feb. I always felt uncomfortable and left out due to lacking the same fluency about the game, so three years ago I decided to learn everything about the players/teams/strategy/history of the game. Which ended up coming from me listening to all (or most) episodes of ATN starting from season one. I laughed, I cried (any new fans need to educate themselves on the story of Wes) and I learned SO MUCH. It is hands down my favorite podcast and my stomach dropped when I read the show was canceled. I am so very happy you have found a way to continue on 🙌🙌. The chemistry with the four of you was magical, and the three of you were great, but having the two of you continue this will be something we will be grateful for above it all.
I loved listening to the old show with my son, who was just getting into football. I can’t do that anymore because when the Jets win and Dan gets some Tito’s in him, the language is not appropriate for my elementary aged child. They are still worth a listen, just not for me.
As someone who was devastated when ATN broke up, Im very happy with what HTC has done so far with underdog. We need a Marc and Colt McCoy episode please give us that interaction 😂
Terrible. Too many stupid inside jokes. Too much jets talk. Dan is an idiot. Marc talks like a 12 year old girl. Feel free to stop using “like “ every ten seconds
Really enjoy the relaunch other than the two guests for the week one and a week two preview. The guests energy is so low and they don’t seem to have much of a connection to the podcast. Would love to see different guests for the week previews in the future.
Truly enjoying every moment of this second week review. Share their surp at the Saints humiliation of the Cowboys and dismay at the Bengals falling to the Chiefs. Lots of interesting tidbits to flesh out everything I watched.
I've been with these guys from the beginning of their prior show. Heed the Call has been good since inception, but the Week 2 preview episode is when the crew settled in and hit their stride. A little less wandering and gibberish now, but with just the right amount of interesting tangents and mirth inserted concisely at just the right time. All the while the football analysis is on point, and they make you feel like your one of they guys just sitting around passionately talking football. Way to land on your feet boys!
Love the sound bites and the analysis. I’d give it five stars if Dan and the guests would stop using Jesus Christ’s name in vain. It’d be nice if the blasphemy stopped.
The BEST sports podcasters!
Marc and Dan have been critical to my love of sports and football. They have created a balanced product of mirth and analysis for years. I love that they don’t take themselves too seriously and they genuinely sound like they’re having fun. I’ve been a fan of them since 2013 and it’s always great to hear their podcasts. Heed the Call!
P.S. major thank you to Marc for helping me graduate from college. I imitated his writing style on every essay and passed with flying colors.
I was devastated when ATN was unexpectedly taken off air by the evil empire. Fast forward to Summer 2024…Marc is channeling renewed farmboy energy now released from his moisture farm prison on Tattooine, Dan has been freed from the bounty placed on his head by Jabba the Hutt and Justin has returned from a far off distance world to deliver the greatest NFL football podcast the universe has ever seen.
I was a long time listener of a certain previous podcast, but when that podcast went from four hosts to three, I found it just wasn’t the same to listen to anymore (and of course I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been for the pod’s heroes personally). Heed the Call thus far has done a very nice job of drawing from some of the more enjoyable parts of the previous pod and has given the format new life at the same time. It has a little farther to go in establishing its own identity, but so far I am loving it!
This gets a pre-listen 5 star. Why? You know why. So glad these guys are back on the air after a tough situation. Very very happy to have my pod to listen to again
Massive ATL fan here. When the boys were mysteriously taken off the podcast world, it was a shock to the system. No more recaps, no more grey beards and no more banter between the best in the business. I can’t tell you how I’m excited. I know this review isn’t as eloquent as Marc’s writing but I did my best.
I love these two and I loved the old pod. Got me through Covid. It was magnificent. This one is pretty decent and I think it will improve as time goes. My recommendation - quit with the non-football or non-consequential football stuff. No one cares what music you listened to 30 years ago or who your favorite movie director is. We want news and updates on critical football information and we want real breakdowns of the teams and conferences. Which you do provide at times, but there’s too much fluff outside of that. Keep the main thing the main thing and dispense with the other nonsense. I find myself skipping through significant portions of the show trying to find meaningful football talk. Maybe it’s just a pre-season habit because we’re lacking real football games. Which I could understand. I hope it improves. I’d rather have shorter but meater podcasts than hear about Quinton Terrintino or Metallica.
Also - please make Jordan stop rambling.
I had a great review previously typed up and I guess it didn't save so here it goes: Dan and Mark ARE BAAAAAACK!!! So happy to hear the snark, the dramatic monologues, the teasing of Gravedigger, the new faces Jourdan and Michael, and some old faces from the previous ATN podcast (if you know, you know). This pod gives me a break from job hunting and makes me giggle and not be so intense. If you like sports chat with analysis with jokes and wit, this is your pod! I am fan all over again!
I wasn’t much of a podcast listener, then I discovered ATN. It made football better. Like… WAY better. I’m not sure how many hours I’ve listened to over the years but pretty much every commute of every day during football season. Days when an ep didn’t drop in time for my drive felt like a loss or void in my routine and comfort. I felt like I got to know the guys, like they were my friends. They represent a culture of appreciating football that I so relate to. I mean come on… anyone that can seamlessly transition from discussing Wilco’s Yanke Hotel Foxtrot to talking about C.J. Mosley being traded to the Jets in 2019 is a winner in my book.
So when the news dropped that ATN was going away, it felt like a huge loss for my enjoyment of football. Like no joke without them, football is way less interesting to me.
But now, here we are now, with two familiar and comforting voices crooning in my ears in my commutes. I feel excited about this football season, mostly because I am gonna log tons more hours with these gems in football broadcasting.
I don’t leave reviews, but for these guys, I will. I’ll smash that like button, I’ll follow that YouTube Channel, I’ll tell all my friends about it. Because it genuinely make my life better in a real and tangible way.
Thanks guys.
