Reviews For MacBreak Weekly (MP3)

What is it that Leo Laporte's broadcasts do have which the global networks don't? A consistent, significant, entertaining, and highly professional delivery of the world's technology news and insight, as delivered by the highest IQ-group of individuals ever gathered on the planet's face! True; no hyperbole. With the added podcast, repeatable format benefit when in late evenings you drift off to sleep with the two hour length shows -- in my case now for 14 Ambien-free, audience years -- you can always pick up from where you drifted off! Thank you, Leo & Company!
Sorry guys, I love the rest of you but Andy is a pretentious, stuttering mess. It’s cringeworthy. Let him go and this becomes a five star podcast.
Agree with another comment: it’s off-putting. I don’t listen nearly as often as I used to for just this reason.
Love Leo and most of the guests. I enjoy most of the info you get, however the blatant mentions of politics and their hatred of our president and administration is off putting. It’s not even informative it’s a smear usually. Keep politics out of it and I’d give it 5 stars.

Love the banter and camaraderie between the host and guest hosts. Best podcast series in the world. Always entertaining, educational and informative!
Delivers useful tech information tainted by patronizing and political snide comments. I guess be expected from a show from Colleyforneeya.
Please Leo let Andy go. I actually have to skip forward everytime he speaks. Don’t let him ruin your great show.
The host, Leo Laporte, has been a tech broadcaster for decades. MacBreak Weekly is one of his many podcasts. His panel of guests includes brilliant tech analysts and practitioners. The podcast is smart, informative and entertaining. Every week, this podcast helps you keep up with Apple products, trends, issues and much more. The pdocast is available in audio-only format and in video format as well. While you're at it, check out twit.tv's other excellent podcasts.
Not worth time Listening to. Maybe 2 min of content out of long verbose self promotion talk!
Am a dedicated listener to this podcast even though Mr. Laporte’s constant interruptions of his panelists and stories of what he is buying are truly unbearable. Andy Inahtko and Rene Ritchie are always wonderfully insightful.
This was probably the first podcast I started listening too, back before podcasts were mainstream and I love it…. BUT - Andy has just worn on my last nerve. As others have said, his longwinded metaphors and endless complaining have just gotten to be too much. And how many times can one person say “whereas” - so annoying! I really enjoy the insight of the others guests, especially Alex, he is a pro user and I would love to hear MORE from him. Rene also has a ton of knowledge and is able to get down in the weeds as to how features work, again - MORE! Andy - not so much. One last note to the show - Enough with the complaining about the MacBook Pro keyboard!!!! We get it, you don’t like it. Move on please.
Andy needs to go. I am thinking about inventing a podcast app that has machine learning just to SKIP ANDY’S LONG RAMBLING NONSENSE. He adds no value to the show, talks too much, and does not make sense most of the time. Keep Rene and Alex, but Andy has to go. Considering unsubscribing if Andy is allowed to continue his nonsense.
Leo, Renee et al do a great job. They have clear expertise and the right balance in their remarks. Andy is however a big detriment. He is often nonsensical and is very judgmental. He seems he does even like Apple Products. Put him on with Android users. His tirades and rants are annoying and ruin the show.
I still listen to the show but Andy drives me crazy... talks way too much to make a simple point. Doesn’t add much to the show. Half the time he’s talking about all the google devices he uses... I’m glad the podcast app has a Thirty second skip. But it’s sad I have to usually push the button 3-5 times to get thru Andy’s drawn out explanations. Other than him they usually have a great panel. Alex and Renee are great and Leo is always fun to listen too. Drop Andy or put him on your google show would be a better fit. 5 Star podcast when he’s not on.
Used to love the show but Andy for some reason has become so annoying that I can longer listen. I get frustrated just listening to him try to make a point that takes 15 minutes. I just can’t do it anymore. Everyone else is fine but 1 person ruins this podcast for me now. It’s my opinion and maybe most don’t see it this way. Maybe give Andy an Android show and add the Mac geekgab guy as a permanent replacement.
Andy can’t seen to shut up. He goes on and on trying to make a simple point. I find myself scrolling past his comments.
Enough of the political crap. I tried just fast forwarding through it but just can’t do it anymore. Andy and Leo are way over the top. I think I did like the content at one time but not anymore.
MacBreak Weekly has been one of my favorite podcasts for iver 5 years but I think I may have just reached my breaking point. I can handle some ranting or negative options about Apple, but lately it’s been frustrating because more often than not the rants are not based in fact or even logical. Leo (as always) shoots from the hip and often is ranting about rumors that aren’t true. Andy, who used to be a favorite, just can’t get his facts straight about “right to repair” issues and repeatedly gets the facts wrong about Apple’s repair “policies”. If I were in the media and got a bad answer from an Apple Store employee or read an article by another tech journalist that seemed wrong, i’d call one of my contacts at Apple before I started ranting on a podcast.
I started listening to macbreak weekly, my favorite tech podcast about a year ago and now I’m obsessed with a lot of Twits podcasts.
Tried to listen to Tuesday’s episode for an escape from politics and learn about tech. But, Leo and Andy can’t stop the President Trump hatred and bashing. I keep giving them a chance because usually the tech content is good. But I’m done. If I want hatred about President Trump, I can find that everywhere.

Everyone tries to talk at the same time. Sounds like a battle of the egos not a tech show.
Too long, not enough good info... I don’t look forward to listening anymore. Andy is a TDS Librard. MAGA2020!!!
Update: I just can’t take it anymore. Why do podcasts insist on antagonizing large swaths if their audience by hack political talk on a tech show? Leo really has to keep that ridiculous Andy character on a tighter rein. The show on Nov. 26 was way over the line. Please stop this practice of spouting political beliefs as if everyone naturally agrees with them. A large portion of this country most assuredly does not. How Andy manages to stay on this podcast is mysterious. Why doesn’t he start his own political and Android podcast so I can listen to Apple exclusive talk on this one? Also, I also don’t care to hear about Leo’s car, exotic vacations, or his wife. Advertising is too long winded. Andy is unlistenable. He rambles on for several minutes straight on off-topic inanities. Very pointless and buffoonish. Almost can’t help himself. He is always snickering at his own statements as if they are somehow funny. Leo needs to flush that blowhard from the show. I don’t care about his cooking, his walks, his trips to New York, or his adoration of Android. This is an Apple show. Stop complaining about Apple prices. Alex seems self-centered, only interested when the topic has something to do with video production or high-end hardware. Lately he has been better though. Rene is fine and lends some genuine Apple insight. Please completely squelch the Pokémon talk. You are a grown man. I shut off the podcast when when you start in on your latest Pokémon adventure. Stick to Apple. I would prefer not to unsubscribe, but it is becoming more difficult. My rant is finished and I feel better.
Every week they weakly break Macs [down] and put them back together for us. Keep up the awesomeness.

We love Andy!
Please consider dropping Andy from the show. He makes it really difficult to get through an episode. He just rambles and is constantly trying to interrupt someone to spew his stuff on us.
Rene has facts. Alex has experience. Lori has common sense. Andy has gas. With Andy, a subject is not “interesting” or even “very interesting” it’s “very very interesting”, and when he’s feeling eloquent it’s “very very very interesting”. His standard schtick is to make some commonplace observation, then repeat it in a goofy voice as though he is one of the people he’s talking about, then repeat it again, this time prefacing it with “again”. Three times, and still no useful information. Andy huffs and puffs about human rights in China, comic books, and low-income consumers, all without informing us of anything more than his opinion. When he goes on yet another tedious rant about how the butterfly keyboard is a personal insult to himself and threatens to leave the Mac over it, I think “Please do.”
Some guests often have interesting perspectives to offer when new Apple products are introduced. Rene Ritchie is the standout for his keen understanding of Apple and its technologies. Otherwise, I find most other episodes laborious to listen to. The signal to noise ratio can be low. I concur with other comments about the program being better without Andy Ihnatko present. He is often verbose, and his frequent diatribes and focus on non-Apple products make me wonder why he appears on a Macintosh podcast.
Leo has seen it all, Renee provides an optimistic insider’s view and Andy is one smart son of a gun. Between Renee’s connections to the company and Andy’s ability to look at the big picture, there’s a ton of insight here. Having Leo play devil’s advocate keeps everyone in their toes. Shame Alex doesn’t come by more often. Honestly not sure where Lory fits in right now but she’s a nice person with a cool voice. Sometimes Andy takes the scenic route but he’s usually pretty darn funny. No way in hell I’d keep listening if he was replaced. This is the right balance of information, examination and entertainment. Keep up the great work.
Hearing thoughts on what Apple is doing nice, but often too much in a vacuum. You don’t have to spend half the show talking about other companies products, but putting Apple in the context of the industry is important to understanding and appreciating Apple. Please do more of that. Andy is too “old school Apple” to be a meaningful contributor any longer. His comments feel very out of touch with the company and industry. Make him a host so he can provide historical context while letting new contributors who are more plugged into the industry of today weigh in. Also, needs more Alex! In addition to being amazing, he is the only contributor that actually works in the “professional creative” industry, so his perspective is amazing contrast to the tech journalist. Also give Alex his own show to just talk about whatever he wants for as long as he wants.
Love the show but as others have mentioned sometimes the hosts can go on way to long to make a point. Also I wonder if Renee can hear or is he just that insensitive that he starts talking right in the middle of someone else’s point. Many times right in the “middle” of someone’s sentence he will just start talking. Anyway I can put up with the clumsy conversations for now because I love the subject and mostly like the hosts.
You know the phrase “Mo’ Cow Bell” - well “Less Andy…”
Get rid of Andy!
I really enjoy listening to Leo, very intelligent man and very wise.
We all know it. Leo has become anti-Apple ever since he’s been banned from the events. Renee is pro-Apple. And there’s nothing wrong with either because it adds a nice balance to the show. The problem therein lies with Andy. Please let him swap out with someone else every other show at minimum. I’ll put it like this. Every other person on the show misses AT LEAST one episode a year because they’re busy. They have commitments. They have meetings. They have crazy schedules, etc. There’s a reason Andy never misses a show. I’ll leave it at that.

Please I skip over Andy. At least rotate his seat.
I have been listening to Mac break weekly for a little over two years and I am very pleased with the information and chemistry between Leo Renee Andy and now Laurie which is a nice addition to the team. My favorite is actually Andy I think he’s very witty very honest which is much needed in today’s world. Leo also is very good at this. although Renee tends to be more apple centric in his views which will cater to a primarily knack friendly audience and I do respect his views I think that the voices of Leo and Andy are much needed in regards to talking about Apple in a more neutral position if cause. Thank you very much for all the work you guys do you put together a great show every week and I can always count on you to keep me up-to-date on all the latest information in an enjoyable manner that is entertaining and informative. it truly helps me out in my day-to-day activities with people that are more tech savvy and it allows me to gracefully have better quality conversations with people because of what I learned from your show.
I have been following Leo since tech tv days. I would easily give the show 5 stars but like everyone else says Andy takes for ever to say the simplest things I actual skip ahead ever time he talks which is so annoying. He is very disrespectful to the other guests. Please fix the show leo!

He needs to keep it to the point or go make his own podcast.
Andy has got to go.
Andy is annoying, he takes forever to get to his point and has a hard time letting others talk. And the ads are a little over the top and I don’t care about Leo’s personal life and that his wife is the CEO.
I go back to the beginning here with the original crew that included Scott Bourne and Merlin Mann - Rat Hole. Yes, it can get tedious but Andy actually does better as a host than a contributor. When he filled in for Leo a few weeks ago, things flowed better than usual. Leo has become the grumpy old man. Is his anti Apple mindset just there to ensure he comes across as fair? Let’s not be so open minded that our brains fall out... More Alex please... 3 stars that should be 4 but I still listen every week religiously.
I always listen to this podcast every week to know what’s going on with apple wish they had Alex every week but everyone else is great.
For the love of god and all that is holy, please give Andy his own 2 hour show. It will reduce the length of this podcast and make it more enjoyable as other guests won’t be constantly cut off by Andy and we won’t have to be taken on a 10 minute scenic route while a point is trying to be made.
This show and all the rest of the TWOT shows are all about Leo LaPorte and his ability to be an amazing host. When he is gone or on vacation then all the shows are garbage.
I get burned out on Rene Ritchie and Andy Ihnatko. Andy rambles on. Rene is a fan boy. Both are careful in what they say as not to get black listed by Apple. Leo is great and isn’t scared to voice his opinion. I’m a huge Apple fan but I like to hear honest opinions, good and bad. I’d like to see some new co-hosts. I think this show needs a refresh. Clean house, except for Leo, of course.
I’d list MacBreak Weekly among the three podcasts I couldn’t do without. I’ve been a subscriber since *almost* day one, the show may’ve been two or three months old when I found it. And to me, Andy Ihnatko is MacBreak and MacBreak is Andy Ihnatko. I love his sense of humor, and his picks are the best, I’ve personally found most of them quite useful. Rene Ritchie and Alex Lindsay are also excellent panelists (Alex’s picks have also been very useful to me), and Leo’s always fun to have around. Don’t change a thing, and please keep going for years and years!
Many of the top reviews for MacBreak are upset that Andy is long-winded, rambling, and anti-Apple. I appreciate that he doesn’t blindly follow the fandom of Apple and thinks critically. He is one of the few tech journalists I trust and is pro-consumer. Obviously his sidetrack discussions are not on topic, but I for one like that.
Just started listening to this podcast a few months ago. Generally, I find they give some valuable information. There’s a reason these run 2.5 hours. Andy doesn’t seem to be much of an Apple fan, but wow, does he prattle on. He gets going so fast, starts stumbling over his point, then resets & makes the same point in a different way. Time consuming. I enjoy Rene & Lori. Leo is Leo, but please try to reign in Andy. Ultimately, this show could comfortably be an hour shorter.
