Two Johns Cycling Podcast

Reviews For Two Johns Cycling Podcast

It looks like the Fredcast won the sprint to the end. The Two John are no more. They have not podcast since last summer. They always did joke about stopping and now they have. If you want another great podcast go to Veloclub Don Logan, a couple of Scotsmen who will give you the same satisfaction. They are even a bit funnier! So long Two Johns. I loved you.
Love the latest one but the audio is cutting in and out on one of their mics
When I first came to TJP from the Fredcast I thought I might only love TJP in comparison to the Fredcast but the more I listened the more I realized that TJP are the real deal. Their 30+ years combined cycling experience includes time as a pro mechanic, lots of shop time stateside, and some elite level racing. They also talk a mean coffee/beer game and can snark like nobody's business. The only two times I've ever been disappointed by them are when I bought up on back catalog and whenever there is a month or more between episodes.
I started listening to the Two Johns Podcast a couple of years ago when I was just getting into cycling, and let me just say I am very glad that I did. Getting into cycling and becoming what would be classified as a “Roadie” can certainly be a lengthy and expensive process, but if you listen to the Two Johns they can help you avoid many of the pitfalls along the way. You will learn, camelbak’s are not ok on a road bike, sunglasses over helmet straps, bibs should be under the jersey, and if you truly become a believer you will laugh every time you see a recumbent. Getting into group riding can be pretty intimidating when you are inexperienced, and I still remember showing up to my first group ride kind of nervous, then I saw people with their sunglasses under their straps and I immediately felt re-assured, thank you Two Johns. I feel like by the time I got into riding with other more serious riders that I was almost over-prepared in terms of the amount of information I had gleaned from the podcast. The Two Johns are about meticulous quality, and though they can be sharp in commentary, they get to the core of what other serious riders and racers are thinking when you show up to a group ride with a mountain bike wearing dress shoes. They do not discriminate, but they do shed light upon the path that will lead to the ultimate prize of cycling glory, and at the very least they will give you some helpful tips on how not to look like an idiot out there. Cheers.
Best podcast going!
One of the best executed podcasts on any subject. Their interview with a marketing rep from New Belgium caused me to buy a case of Fat Tire. Now that's ROI.

So these two dudes are a bit smart-assy and twinge elitist... So what. They emphasize Quality and Quality means having standards. High standards for objects and practices that actually work. As a cyclist, these Johns have truly opened the door to allow me to do things right. I just have to ask myself WW2JD?
These guys transformed me from a lame triathlete to a die hard roady. They also make me crave entering the world of cx, and roasting my own beans.
First off I am a mountain biker and don't really like roadies, but the 2Johns are the best podcast out there. Very informative and the interviews are top notch. Great Job 2J's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fun to listen to, maybe a little eliteist but very informative none the lest.
At first, I didn't really enjoy it as much as some of my favorite podcasts. Since then, there has been some very good content on Two John's, especially the guest interviews. This is now one of my favorites. Good stuff.
If you are looking for a cycling podcast, stop here. No bloviation about paid product placement like the Fredcast. Honest advice, good senses of humor, and great content.
I've listened to these guys for years. They are knowledgeable, experienced, and successful when it comes to bike mechanics and bike racing. Attention cycling newcomers, they are NOT your friends. In other words, don't write in and expect them to relate to how riding 18mph is fast for you. Just take them at face value, two guys doing a podcast and giving out some valuable information which, by the way is FREE!

I wait for every new episode with great anticipation. All their podcasts have been so engaging. Nothing makes the time go by quicker when traveling from work or to a race that listening to The Two Johns. Also, I love the latest addition of Mrs. K. She was very insightful and it was great to hear such a detailed perspective. I think she compliments the The Two Johns nicely.
So, myself and our little network of 2 Johns listeners were very impressed with the Mrs. K episode. We all thought that she was very informative, concise with her thoughts, and genuine in her answers. All we can say is more Mrs. K !
One of a couple bike podcasts I frequently search for new episodes. Love the humor and the sarcasm that can only exist in a guy from Ohio. Can't thank them enough for this sudden burst of frequent updates.
To the bearded recumbent rider with his bib's over his jersey, glasses under his straps, and his dental mirrors out of whack, you should hear what the employees of your LBS say about you after you exit the shop. Two stars, who are you kidding, these guys live and breath cycling, don't criticize them for being honest.
The show is funny, educational and informative. These two guys are the prefect combination. They work so well together. The show would never be the same if one of them decided not to do it any longer. Great show guys!!! A very long time listener
You know those bike shops where you go in and no matter what you ask, what you want to buy, or what you ride, the employees have an attitude like you're an idiot and will never be as cool as the shop's employees are. That's a lot like what The Two Johns Cycling podcast is like. It's not that they don't have any good information; they do. There's lots of good info to be gleaned from the show, but they just never seem to tire of insulting their listeners and telling them how uncool they are. This could be a great show. The Johns both are knowlegeable and entertaining. Now, if they could just stop being quite so insulting to their listeners, this show would really be worth listening to.
Keep it coming; great entertainment, appreciate the insight, love the e-mail feedback. More interviews! I like the call-ins. Audio quality could be better, but has steadily improved.
Sliced bread takes a major backseat to the two johns! Elitist road cycling, Belgian beers and fine coffee all call this podcast home. I look forward to a new download of the 2 johns more than my own birthday or Christmas!
The 2 johns are absolutely phenomenal at podcasting! These guys really have answers to all things cycling. Very entertaining! Crack open a couple dozen cold ones in your garage and catch up on all the old episodes and you'll understand all the inside jokes real quick.
Dos Jauns are a great pair, giving this longtime cycling fan a glimpse into life in the local racing peloton. And they add just enough snark to keep it fresh. My only concern is that the recent addition of phone callers has gotten off to a rocky start (lots of pauses, rambling questions, pointless comments) so I hope they find a way to edit them down -- or maybe just have Dave Towle (his call was the highlight so far) call in each time and leave the rest of the outside input up to the e-mails, which are by far the show's strength. Two thumbs up!
They're both named John, but there's certainly no confusion as to who is who. An informative, entertaining podcast that enhances the experience of the sport of cycling as a recreation, spectacle and culture. They mostly discuss road cycling but will cover cyclo-cross, track, mountain biking and recumbent as well. Technical subjects like maintenance and product reviews are covered, and their guest interviews include folks from a variety of disciplines in the cycling world - racing professionals, mechanics, trainers, manufacturers, broadcasters, frame builders. What makes the Two Johns unique is their devotion to their audience by spending often the majority of an episode responding to listener email. This contributes to a special communal experience not found in most other podcasts. Recommended listening.
I started listing to them after the demise of the velo cast and it is a great way to get caught up on some of the finer points of the cycling word. They answer many listener questions for a good portion of the show. Its very informative and entertaining to how they spend a long time going in to meticulous detail on some question or just say “not gonna answer that.” They pod cast because they want to and they have fun doing it. They don’t guilt you with telling you that the podcast is free and don’t mention adds every five minutes. They know their regulars and call them sometimes on air. From racer to some one that does not know a thing about bikes it’s a good time to be had. You could do a lot worse than these guys on iTunes. -Push the Button
These guys are good. Years of experience, great banter, listeners are pretty well regarded. Love always, Killjoy
This is by far the best cycling podcast and quite possibly the best podcast on the internet!
This is the same sort of conversations I have with folks on those long early season base-mile rides. Didn't start listening until fall '10 and am sorry I didn't start sooner.
There is one huge problem with the 2 johns podcast. There's waaaaay too much time in between them! 2 johns >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> velonews
To make a short story long - Its unqiue conversation that may take a few listens for you to catch their flow. Once you settle in to the format - let the recurring inside jokes/tag lines/ impressions (my favorite) wash you clean and you will be rewarded. It does require the attention of a few podcasts before you start to say "well the two Johns said that..." Then you are finished and just beginning.
As The Two Johns put, this is like listening in on two friends talking cycling on their way home from a race/weekend. What's new in EuroPro racing? What happened this weekend? Dissecting the weekend's races or their current training. Throw in an interview or two (they seem to know enough people in Pro circles to attract good interviews). They have a definite and unapologetic point of view, and it is that of the dedicated amateur racer with all the quirky habits, superstitions and rituals that stereotype the genre. What makes it fun and funny is that TheJohns see the quirks for what they are and embrace them wholeheartedly.
I really enjoy listening to the Two Johns podcast. Their love of cycling, the advice combined with humor, and the friendship for each other makes for enjoyable listening. You may not be able to ride with the Two Johns but you can still spend some good time with them.
The two Johns, Juans etc, are on the pulse of cycling. Their news feature, International, Local and Personal ia always on target. The Johns are in touch with someone who listens to every other cycling podcast there is. Their feedback is clearly a cut above. they ridicule nearly every listener feedback before foving a heartfelt honest answer, not to mention honest aprasial and ridiclue of the questioner. If you like cycling for fun, this is a fun cycling podcast. Just dont lean back and recumbulate. Signed the Canby Crosser
Funny, educational, entertaining, and thoroughly enjoyable cycling talk. Featuring news, reviews, and TONS of great tips for cyclists, the Two Johns Podcast has proven to be the most helpful and informative to me, after checking out about a dozen other contenders.
If you want reality in cycling, here it is. The Two Johns will set you straight on fashion tips, do's and don'ts, tech help and if that's not enuf, they might even rip on your stupid question. One is from Indiana(no hills) the other from North Carolina. Very respectable riders and racers, I looked them up. So just listen and you will see. Not for Recumbulators or if you wear your bibs outside of your jersey! Zman
This podcast is great to listen to while doing things while doing dishes, cooking, or other things that take a while, and are mindless. It's kindof like doing something while a few guys are just sitting around talking about cycling. I'm a club rider, non-racer, and ride all year, do centuries in the summer and travel to bike. I would like more gear reviews, discussion about what is worth spending our limited money on ... I would like the two john's audio to be more sync'd in terms of volume ... overall, they are enjoyable to listen to ... I enjoy the interviews... I enjoy the interviews with the 'regular' racer dudes just riding because they love it. I would like some interviews with industry dudes about their products...
The great thing about the two J's is that it really is like sitting in on a great conversation about cycling, with a little coffee and beer thrown in to boot. The listener feedback section helps those who are new to cycling just as much as the pros. There is no discrimination from these guys. I have listened to some of the others and they just didn't have the same back and forth that these guys have. With nearly a millennia (or at least a couple of decades) of cycling experience between them, you can't go wrong here.
If you are into pro cycling or biking in general the two johns podcast is a great way to spend an hour. The podcast is broken down to sections ranging from local news to listener feedback. The John's do not take themselves to seriously like some other podcasters and as a Bonus they give away "swag" to a worthy listener with the best question e-mailed and read. Never a dull moment on each and every podcast!
Great podcast! Think the Johns are great and give great insight! Keep up the great podcast that keeps me peddling.
I have over thirty years experience listening to podcasts so I think I am qualified to say that this is a quality podcast. Some of the other casts out there get a little boring from time to time, but never the Two Johns. Anyone who doesn't like the Two Johns will get racefaced by me!! p.s. Bring back Laurence!
The new bumpers are funny but make me feel like I'm being touched inappropriately. To those of you complaining about entertaining relays to your questions go listen to the fredcast. love the show.
for the most part, a great listen, yet recently they seem to be giving the listener questions less attention and dwindling respect. In many cases they lose the gist of the question and move on before answering. Guys, maybe you need to formulate an answer before going "to air"?
Great mix of pro-peloton news and comment, racing/club riding advice, listener questions, interviews, pop culture, and irreverent humor. The Johns know cycling and have an opinion on everything. These guys are just having fun together and inviting us to join in the fun. My favorite podcast, period. YA-BONE-EY!
After listening to others I find myself constantly looking for this podcast to have a new one up loaded. Best one out there!
This is a real conversation among friends after a bike race if that sounds good to you join in, just don't race face or half wheel and enjoy the ride.
The two Johns give great cycling advice and feedback to any questions that their listeners send their way. I would have never got as in to cycling and would have never tried cyclocross if it wasn't for the two johns. I highly suggest this podcast for anyone who is remotely intersted in cycling.
What amazes me is that entertaining folks like the Johns do this for free. They skipped a week and I thought I would go into withdrawl.
