This podcast typifies the modern right. These are a bunch of man babies who cannot stand to hear views that aren’t in lockstep with Fox News and conservative talk radio. I tuned in to hear an interview with Bob Baer, and got a lot of Fox News propaganda instead. Next.
I prefer straight talk out of everyone. Problem is that men and woman in law enforcement, fire and armed forces seem to be the last of this dying breed. Sensible talk from a meaningful community.
From one SOF guy to another, thank you for having open and honest dialogue. Too many don’t speak out and many who do have a self aggrandizing point or product to sell.
Who we are today and who we are ever evolving into is the story of all people.
Thank you for your efforts bringing honesty forward on behalf of those who don’t.
I appreciate the entire SOFREP team bringing forward relevant topics with real conversation. These are stories that people need to hear told by Veterans who have been on the front lines. #leadershipfromthefrontlines
Host audio was horribly broken up.

Why would anyone in Tech advertise with this kind of audio quality.
I really enjoy the guests you have but it always sounds like they’re on the phone and not in person. Just seems like it would be better and better sound quality if they did it in person. Also you guys kind of discuss irrelevant topics for what seems to be an absurdly long time so I have to skip forward until I hear the guests voice then rewind to find the beginning of their interview. Chose to listen to an episode because I admire the guest and wanted to hear it and the episode was only a hour long but you guys talked about your personal lives and other topics for 31 minutes, not here to hear about your take on girls being able to join the Boy Scouts for a half hour. Other than poor audio quality and the pre guest discussions, it’s a decent podcast.
Once upon a time, this was my go-to podcast when someone asked for a recommendation. But those days are gone. While they still occasionally have interesting guests, the inconsistent audio quality and loss of hosts that kept me engaged has made each episode a struggle, so I’m moving on. I feel like the podcast that was one the centerpiece of SOFREP has become a small footnote in a larger company that no longer cares about it. So long SOFREP, it was fun while it lasted.
I wasn’t sure how to rate this podcast since it is a good podcast. The reason I have a problem with it is because it says it’s a special operations military news podcast and I feel like I don’t really get a lot of military news updates from it. It’s all interviews with guys about things that have happened years ago. Nothing that’s happening right now. So if you want to hear cool interviews with great people that have incredible stories, then this is a great podcast. If you want special operations military news, then this is a terrible podcast.
I hate giving so few stars for this. The guests and content really is Five star material, BUT the audio production is so poor it makes it very difficult to listen all the way through.
If they could find a way to normalize the audio levels between the Ads, intro, and content it would be great. As it is, your ear drums (or speakers) will be blown out when the too low content audio suddenly blasts an ad in the middle of the interview.
Couple that with a crackling mic for one of the hosts and it’s just a production failure.
Unfortunate.
This is an excellent Podcast with great personal stories, perspectives on various national and global issues. It has opened mind my to different topics, events, and perspectives I then research and frame my own perspective upon. I wouldn’t change a thing accept for getting a new step it moderator. Steve Balestrieri is absolutely terrible to listen to. He is ill prepared on the topics, guests, and often there is weird silence or transitions during a show. I’m sure he is knowledgeable but this is not his calling and will bring down your ratings the more he is on. He is the first person I look for and when conducting the interview, I skip what probably could have been great guests with fascinating stories and important topics to discuss.
Keep up the great work team! JB
More and more dishonest anti-American propaganda has been popping up with this company run by dishonest people. I saw this through a few interviews early on but this is happening more and more. I remained subscribed cause I do lie to hear opposing view points. However once those view points become dishonest it’s no longer productive. And their dishonesty really goes as far back as their launch of their crate club. I admit they’ve turned that into a decent mystery box subscription but that was after so many complaints. Their most recent description of the protests as “peaceful” in their last email article was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Most reasonable people support the rights of “peaceful” protestors if their truly peaceful. But what we are seeing in Portland is anything but peaceful.
Love the podcast as these beyond words brave men describe the missions they served on while giving the humanity of their experiences impact on their soul and what they endured (which a lot of millennials who grew up on call of duty video game cannot comprehend) through being heroic and protecting OUR freedoms
Trying to listen to an interview and it’s constantly filled with the host talking over the guest and flat out interrupting and not letting the guest finish his story / point.
Anyone who supports this show should stop immediately. Buying into anything they have to offer will result in disappointment and regret. Get as far away as possible from anyone that has anything to do with this company.
I’ve been here since pirate radio and the first show.... hate to see it decline soo bad. I love the guys and especially George Hand but it’s a bitter sweet decline and I have to let it go.
This podcast used to be good years ago and then hid it behind paywall and then got too kinda military bro and left behind interesting stories and analysis and on current ops and news. Now it’s gotten better big Phil is great and love the international stuff. There is enough out there on American military, will Big Phil it gets more well rounded.
More stories, honest operations/international news analysis and less opinion
This was a podcast that was really enjoyable with interviews and insights. Not sure why everything is UK now. Very disappointing. Don’t waste your time if you are looking for American military insight.
Been with SOFREP for years - even written a couple articles. But oh man, the quality of the show audio, organization and quality has dropped. Just take a break and get this going again the way it should be.
The content is decent in a lot of cases but the audio quality is really poor. They need some better mics or some better compression or something. It makes it kind of tough to listen to over time. Otherwise it wouldn’t be so bad. Recent episodes have felt a lot more casual and spitballing. Not necessarily bad. Just compared to other content in this genre the quality seems pretty bad which is holding it back. Content is there though.
The podcast idea is fantastic. I’ve listened to over 100 of them. The quality is marginal. If they would simply focus on the guest it would be so much better because the guests are amazing. The reason for this podcast is based on the guests not their opinion and drivel. If they would spend 75% of the time letting the guest talk instead of talking and giving their own opinions it could be so great. If I wanted an opinion on current news I have hundreds of avenues for that. Please stop talking and focus on your guest....
If you want another podcast that does this... go to Jocko Podcast. The interviews and depth of information without getting caught up in politics and meaningless conversation is amazing with Jocko.
this show used to have some pretty compelling interviews. Sadly though, since the hosts jumped ship, the show has really suffered. will probably turn into just another vehicle for peoples BS self help drivel.
This podcast gives great insight into SOF community. I enjoy listening to stories. Great job referencing current events and following up in multiple episodes as stories develop. The way you guys talk about stuff before during and after the guest comes on keeps things very interesting.
Used to be an awesome podcast with great guests and interviews. But ever since the rebrand to Newsrep, the quality and direction of the interviews started to deteriorate. The only reason I still subscribed was bc of Ian and Jack - they made the podcast. Now that they’re both gone, it just isn’t the same. Such a shame bc of how great it started and just went downhill, they should’ve stuck to what was working.
I have been listening since episode 1. This podcast was amazing with Jack and Ian at the helm. Now that they are gone I seriously doubt the show will return to it’s former glory. 3 stars due to the shows DEEP archives.
Dennis you may not be Ian, but you are just as good. Love you insight and you desire to learn and ask more. Jack just keeps rocking it and the guest each week never fail to fill my day with new thoughts and ideas and understanding for us in the veteran community. Keep up the good work brothers!
I have a non military background but have listened to this show for years. Kudos to Brandon Webb, Hurricane Group, past and current moderators. The high quality of this program constantly astounds me, especially the respect you give your guests. Please don’t take it wrong when I state that you’re on par with Terry Gross and Fresh Air.
