Draft Zero: a screenwriting podcast

Reviews For Draft Zero: a screenwriting podcast

STU-pendous. Fan-CHAS-tic. I’m sorry.
I’m a comic book artist who has gained a lot of insight from the analysis you guys provide...so many great tools that can apply to comic book storytelling as well! Thanks so much👍
This podcast is great. It deals with how screenplays work and how to fix your own work. It’s super informative and exposed me to a lot of films I’d never heard about before. It’s also refreshing to hear from people who are at a more beginner level.
I’m a new writer, trying to learn the craft through books, pod casts, and lots of videos. Provides great breakdowns, with specific elements of the craft. It’s been very helpful in my developing my screenplay and ideas.
Talk way to fast. I’ve never heard people talk this fast. It’s like fast forwarded or something. Crazy annoying.
These guys present a great source of writing knowledge in a fun way. Their Steve Irwin accents add a little icing on top.

These guys are good teachers. Analysis/breakdown of what works and what doesn’t in screenplays. And, how that relates to your own writing. Thanks Chas and Stu.
I love Chas fisher’s laugh. It’s contagious. I start laughing when I hear it. Seriously, guys this is an amazing podcast and will not regret an moment listening to the episodes. So helpful for young screenwriters.
Good podcast, but one of the hosts has a "seal laugh" that is pretty annoying. It would be great if they could edit it out.
I’ve been listening for a while now, long enough that I for sure owe Stu and Chas some stars. I re-listened to an episode where they mention a fan who mentioned re-listening to an episode- and the guys said it made them happy to know someone else goes back for more. Well guys, I am that kinda fan.
In writing, or any other career, time is a comodity. These podcasts have been a huge asset to my wirting and well worth the time I have invested and continue to invest. They do all my homework for me and present it on a silver platter. Their conversational approach really makes the listerner feel part of the discussion and engage with their ideas. They have a remarkable grasp on the craft and have opened my eyes to new levels of writing I likely would never have appreciated otherwise.
Love these Aussies. Smart dudes. Great analysis. Only recently found this podcast but it's a must have in any screenwriter's arsenal. Thanks for all the great work you gents do!
I find this podcast to be excellent. I don't always agree with their points of view however, that's the beauty of cinema/arts. Even though I don't agree, I always appreciate their insight and knowledge and absolutely love hearing people talk about cinema. I downloaded all episodes and listened to them over the course of 4 weeks. Finally, something better than beer to be hooked on!!
This is how a podcast should be. The conversation is so engaging that three hours is what my soul longs for. I've been looking for a podcast that goea so thoroughly into the craft of screenwriting. I'm glad I found this.
Fantastic podcast for the casuals and professionals.
...what makes a good script, well, great?? Chas and Stu take your favorite movie, analyze the script and blow your mind all at once. Impossible? I think not. There are many podcasts out there that interview writers/directors/producers, but what do you really learn from these interviews? How they broke into the business? How does that help you? You can’t be a copycat. You need to find your own path and Draft Zero helps you understand the path you’re currently on. Draft Zero runs the gamut of screenwriting, from character development and character arcs, to scene structure and tools for better dialogue. These are not critiques of these scripts, but rather how and why these screenplays are great. Happy writing!
As a modern filmmaker I'm regularly scouring the internet for in-depth, technical discussion on film craft. Most interviews, many discussions, are so surface level: it's the interviewer asking what it was like to work with some actress, or for crazy stories. This podcast is craft. As good as any college course, I immiedately recognized (and I only just came in at ep 37) how useful, technical, and comprehensiv it was. Put more simply, I've immediately found myself applying what I hear in this podcast to my own work and hungering to listen and re listen to other episodes. Bravo, fellas. And thanks.
This is my favorite of all the csreenwriting podcasts. Scriptnotes and others are very useful as well, but Draft Zero really going into the process with a proffessional, outsider/beginner's perspective. They aren't too proud to learn new things and excel in the craft. I just wish they made more episodes.
What we have here are two story engineers discussing the foundations of storycraft. If that sentence doesn't sell you on this podcast, then just check out episode DZ-05: Shifting Audience Point of View. I'm a producer/writer/editor and therefore have an ego bigger (right or wrong) than your most confident director of photography (whom I usually end being the guy who hires him/her). But when I listened to this episode, I was truly humbled and have been listening to them ever since. Regardless of wether you're a writer or not, having a basic understanding of story structure is crucial to working in the film industry. Even if you're a gaffer (Yousef, if you're reading this, I'm talkig about you right now). So check these guys out.

Thanks for all your hard work. Fascinating and helpful.
Really enjoy listening to Chas and Stu examine movies and scripts from every angle, coming at it from the same perspective as all the rest of us who are trying to learn by doing. A must-listen.
I think this podcast is awesome because it is like having a conversation about script writing and gets you more in the writing mode while giving you different points of view.
This podcast is so helpful to me as a writer.
What I love about Draft Zero is that Chas and Stu don't pretend to have all the answers. They're just like most of us, screenwriters trying to figure things out - mostly by writing and talking to each other. Every episode brings new questions to tackle and new arguments to have and the journey to getting at least some answers is as enjoyable as whatever results they get from analyzing popular screenplays. Keep it up, guys!
Quite an entreating and informative podcast. It's very interesting because you essentially get to tag along as two likable Aussies go on a journey of exploration into why some scripts work, and others don't. It feels like you're sitting in on a film club meeting, where everyone's seen a set of movies and is sitting down to discuss them afterwards. Chas and Stuart make it a lot of fun and they seem to be genuinely enjoying the discussions they get into and that enthusiasm can be quite contagious. I highly recommend this podcast!
The boys get very specific on screenwriting techniques, making for some fascinating listening, and reading if you choose to read the case study scripts they discuss.
This is one of the longer podcasts I subscribe to - which is great! Chas and Stu really go into a lot of detail in their analysis of the screenplays they delve into each week. They are knowledgeable screenwriters in their own right, as well as fun to listen to, and they clearly care deeply about the process and pitfalls of telling great screen stories. This is a very welcome addition to screenwriting podcasts such as the great Scriptnotes.
