The Sculptor's Funeral

Reviews For The Sculptor's Funeral

I’m a beginning sculptor and enjoy it as a hobby in my retirement. I recently took a sculpting workshop at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, USA and the instructor mentioned this podcast series. I listened to 5 episodes on my way home from the workshop and continue listening during my morning workouts. What a wealth of interesting information pertaining to sculpting history and technique that is presented in a very interesting way. We’ll done and please continue!
I am a Firefighter Paramedic in a good sized metropolitan. I have no experience in the arts. On my honeymoon in 2016 we had a hotel in Bernini piazza next to the Fontana Del tritone. I have been forever interested in sculpture after that. I am so glad to have found this podcast. It is so refreshing. I turn off all the news, war, and political stuff on TV, and just listen. Master Jason is so well spoken and passionate about his topics. I love this. Thank you Jason. Now I have to visit Florence.
I’m an auditory learner and appreciate being able to listen to these histories while doing things around the house. The host has a wonderful voice! I appreciate his orderly and entertaining way of presenting art , the artists and it’s histories. Thank you
So far, this is an EXCELLENT podcast. Art+ History at it’s best. I need many more of these. Keep them coming. Audio quality, speaker’s voice/ delivery, the way the material is presented, and info given are all top notch. This is how it should be done. Also, this guy is a legit artist just because of his sign off: I hope you have a productive week! Any artist hopes their effort produces results and not another scrapped project tossed into the trash.
Just discovered this....so interesting and my medium is textiles not sculpture! Love his point of view and the way he brings to life everything in his subject, equally if you’ve visited and seen the artworks or not.
I've been listening while in my studio sculpting and am thrilled with the content - only up to episode 9 now but gotta say that his reading, info, stories and history lessons are riveting. Thanks!
This is a fantastic podcast. Hats off to Jason for the great, informative and easy listening podcast! I felt like my previous art history classes were swamped with study of paintings and architecture but I didn’t realize I missed the in depth connected history of figurative sculpture in traditional art history classes. This is a very welcome addition! Thanks Jason!
Jason's recent four part series on Ancient Greece is well researched, artfully presented, informative, and well produced. In sum, it's exceptional.
Incredible podcast. A wealth of information, shared lovingly by a very engaging and informative host.
I adore this podcast. I especially love learning about the history behind many of our sculptures and of various sculptors in the past. Fantastic!
I have listened to every single episode and they are all great. Really couldn't enjoy them more. There is nothing else like The Sculptors Funeral in the podcast landscape - TSF is the Ken Burns of art podcasts. 10 Stars
Deeply insightful, wide ranging in topics, this is a supremely wonderful series in the art of creativity, not just sculpture.
This is my favorite podcast, hands down. Even if you are not an artist or art history buff, you will loves Jason’s stories!
Great! Your podcast is superlative Jason! Detailed, interesting and always full of amazing information. I want to thank you for reawakening my love of sculpture, Ive been sculpting professionally for the last 30 years (much longer just for fun) and sometimes it can be “just a job”, but your podcast has been a revelation for me. So inspirational. Thank you!
I'm currently a student at an atelier, and I've been listening while doing cast drawings. The first episode made me feel like I was doing something important! I really appreciated it. Also quite informative and entertaining.
I stumbled upon this podcast while looking for podcasts to help broaden my understanding of art and sculpture history. I had no idea how precious few these sort of resources are when I first set out looking and am so grateful to have found this. I was listening to the most recent podcasts and only back tracked to earlier episodes when Jason took a break for the summer. I'm so glad I did. The chronological and thematic progression, along with his insightful and very well told accounting, has made catching up on the Sculptor's Funeral something I look forward to every day. Thanks, Jason, and keep up the good work!
It's fascinating and informative, well written and delivered in a warm, clear, engaging voice. It really keeps my interest. (And I have nothing at all to do with sculpture or any of the fine arts.)
What a wonderful world we live in when an entire podcast can be dedicated to this specialized subject. Jason puts together a very professional podcast on this important and neglected subject in art.

"The Sculptor's Funeral" is easily the best art-based podcast out there (and by far my favorite podcast of any variety). I've learned so much--and I'm only 6 podcasts deep! Bravo, Jason!
This is one of the three best podcasts on the visual arts. Most are not planned ahead and seem to ramble and drone and the art historical ones are read and very boring. The podcasts are fascinating pockets of information delivered by someone who is intensely interested. Excellent! I wish the museum podcasts would take a lesson here.
Only way it could be better is if it was about painting!
Just found out about this. Started later in the set, but am now starting from episode one. Great time and very relevant. Please, please, please… Franz Xaver Messerschmidt??? (Btw… am now telling all my sculpting friends about this one.)
This is such an amazing podcast! Full of inspiration and information that it is an absolute must listen for the sculptor, artist or anyone who just loves art and sculpture. It is not only full of great info but Jason does an amazing job at making it fun and entertaining. Thank you Jason for putting more wrinkles in my brain! (in a good way) :) MD
I recommend this podcast to anyone who practices or appreciates fine art. I've even ordered books off of Amazon immediately after listening to his podcast, wanting to learn more. Just wonderful.
Sculptor's Funeral podcasts are very well presented and researched. Jason is a natural teacher and his passion comes through the airwaves. This podcast is a tremendous research for students and admirers of sculpture alike - most highly recommended!
Sculptors and art historians will love this show. Jason is insightful and well informed on his subject, and his passion comes through. Keep ‘em coming!
Artists, whether sculptors or painters, can glean much from Jason’s podcasts. In addition to the well-researched and thought out content, he has a pleasant speaking voice and a great sense of drama. If you are an art teacher, at whatever level, you owe it to your students to recommend The Sculptor’s Funeral. In fact, Jason’s podcasts could effectively form a good part of one’s art history curriculum.
Where was Jason when I was in college and had little interest in learning art history. Ease of delivery and "connecting the dots” makes the podcasts anything but a funeral. Thanks for bring it back to life, a reincarnation, for me.
With podcasts we are surrounded and overwhelmed by instant authorities, inauthentic opinion mavens and gaggles of chattering nitwits who may or may not eventually get around to addressing their topics. Not here. This well-considered, interesting, idiosyncratic series is about the best thing on sculptural aesthetics and methods available. And it's still just getting started!
Great work Jason! Looking forward to future podcasts and following the feedback on your forum.
I have been a professional sculptor for 30 years, with solid training and I'm learning some new stuff here. Very inspiring as well, great quality, and you cannot beat the price! Jason, a big THANK YOU! Please keep them coming!
I found this podcast randomly. I am a Sculpture and learned so much from this podcast. Thank you Jason and keep making them!
