The EU framework for enforcing the respect of the rule of law and the Union’s fundamental principles and values

What are the EU’s founding values and principles and are they enshrined in legislation? First, we take a look at these values and principles and see how they form the basis of EU law. Next, we see what mechanisms the EU activates should any one of its Member States breach its values. Finally, we see the alternative safeguards that the EU has put in place so that it doesn’t have to use its last-resort measure.
